RIP Bob Suter (Ryan's dad) and first 1980 Olympic team member to p
Jersey Wing posted a topic in General
34 years they'd all still been together on this good earth as teammates. No longer. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/bob-suter-remembered-as-rock-solid-force-for-miracle-on-ice-team/ -
I've been watching some video of Wings teams of yore and I was wondering which Red Wing do you think went under-appreciated or was unsung yet did a lot of good or great things. I think my choice would be Kozlov.

March 26th jumps to the fore, it's a historic marker which I think elevates it above the others. That being said the 7-0 game vs Colorado is close as is the 2-1 win to sweep the Flyers. The greatest one I ever saw live (and I've seen hat tricks by LaPointe and Fedorov) was waaaaaaaay back on February 23, 1989. I had to do some research to find this game and confirm all my claims lol. Some buddies and I left work to go get SRO tickets as the mighty Mario Penguins were in town. The building started out ugly as the Wings fell behind 6-0. SIX TO NOTHING. By the end of the night the fans were jumping on one another and hugging and it was one of the loudest nights I've ever heard JLA, the Wings stormed back to TIE the game at 6-6 where the game ended. Way too much fun, waaaay too many beers.

That was the night of Dandenault's 8-Trick as I recall

Red Wings add Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer to coaching staff
Jersey Wing replied to hillbillywingsfan's topic in General
You and me both! National Champ Hiller is. And while I'm talking about NMU, I found out that the Starbucks founder Howard Schultz not only went to NMU he lived in the same room I did, 304 Halverson Hall. -

Hockey News: The 5 most evil hockey photoshops we could come up with
Jersey Wing posted a topic in General
Think long and hard Wings fans, they are one of the five. What would be the most evil thing to befall the Wings (in an on the ice kind of way)? http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/the-five-most-evil-hockey-photoshops-we-could-come-up-with/ -
It's a good day. I saw DeKeyser earlier say on Twitter he was confident a new deal would get done sooner rather than later so yes, a good day.

'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released
Jersey Wing replied to TheCaptain19's topic in General
Oops, sorry Frank. I was thinking outloud while reading your post. too late to delete my thought I see. Name the stadium "Bongwater" if you want because we all know we shouldn't get too attached to a new name as one day (hopefully not for many years) it will be called Ilitch Arena. -
'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released

I think it looks BRILLIANT! I love the plans and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Detroit's #1 Champion, Mike Ilitch -
Buffalo’s Tyler Myers, Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien and Edmonton’s Jeff Petry are discussed along with others. We also learn that the Iginla signing elsewhere lessens the need to move Boychuk. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/rumor-roundup-red-wings-d-hunting-reimer-stuck-with-maple-leafs/

I did. I just saw it on Twitter and KNEW where I had to come instantly. -
For whatever reason I like it. Goalie masks are a great canvas (backs) for creative artists.

Well...at least we're not Philadelphia. Giroux Arrested.
Jersey Wing replied to kipwinger's topic in General
If we play Philadelphia in the playoffs I wonder if this Giroux issue would ever make it's way into the Photoshopping thread. Hmmmmmm, I wonder... -
Good read from Lyle Richardson that the Caps, Hawks and Flyers are in deep when it comes to cap room: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/rumor-roundup-how-will-the-blackhawks-flyers-and-capitals-deal-with-their-cap-crunch/

signed Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV
Jersey Wing replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Let's not overlook the possibility of a trade or two. This was a notoriously weak free agent class yesterday and it didn't improve much by today. The prevailing attitude from most was that the Amazing Kenzini shouldn't overpay for crap. To that end until the Quincey signing he'd done a good job neither paying someone too much nor signing empty calories. But the Quincey thing. I threw up in my mouth a little. We as Red Wing nation need to decide if we're more upset we didn't sign a player or two who could put us over the top from this crop or are we more upset some free agents may have snubbed Detroit. If it's the former then maybe a big trade might help move the team forward ala Shanahan. If it's the latter then yeah, that sucks. Though I'm sure Niskanen and Dorpik were sold on the Crapitals the moment they got to the Verizon Center and looked up at all those championship banners in the rafters. Perhaps other forces are at work beyond the Red Wings reach ie the status of the city in receivership. They can however build the new stadium YESTERDAY. I'm hoping a trade can be worked before I start losing faith. -

Hear Ye Hear Ye, 5 minutes til the Summer Freakout!!
-
Oh I know he's on the block as it were but for now he's on the roster and helping fill it out. I've seen worse defensemen. Took Big E a while to mature as I recall.
-
Look, even if you sign Boyle and Volchenkov/Strahlman you've improved and padded the defense. Boyle is incredibly smart and might be able to teach Brendan Smith the RIGHT time to jump into a play as he does it so well. Add any two of those guys to Kronner and The Big E and Smith, Dekeyser and Kindl and that's not bad at all. With as young as the Wings have become the last couple years I'd be happy to add Iginla on a wing and Boyle on the back end for a 1 or 2 year deal. IMHO
-
I've always liked Volchenkov and his willingness to get his hands dirty. i watched him quite a bit in New Jersey and he was always killing important penalties and blocking shots. He'd be on the ice a lot at the end of games. He'd be a serviceable pro. Not a star but one of those cogs in the wheel that blocks shots and just plays defense.

Jersey Wing replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
The Rangers lost when they came home down 0-2 and managed FOUR shots on goal in the first period. Thats just unacceptable.
