The Americans had played well despite a significant gap in experience between them and the veteran-laden Czechs. Tied 1-1 after the first period, the game got flipped on its head in the second period. Team USA's captain Justin Abdelkader, who is a full-time member of the Detroit Red Wings, absolutely leveled Czech forward Vladimir Sobotka, normally of the St. Louis Blues. There was no penalty called immediately on the play, but Sobotka remained down on the ice as play continued. The whistle eventually blew and the referees conferred. After their conference, Abdelkader got a five-minute major and game misconduct for charging. Here's a look.

WCF: (6) California Dreamin' v (5) The Night Chicago Died
Jersey Wing replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
The Hawks, er, THE CORE is at the tipping point (if it weren't for Kane in OT the media would say it) that they have played an awful lot of playoff hockey lo these last 6 and 7 years. As Red Wings fans well know at some point when you play that many more high intensity finish every check games than the other teams the inevitable happens, your legs and bodies just get tired. After watching last night it's apparent the Kings are a far worse matchup than the Ducks would have been for Big Chief One Song. Now they head back to the "House that Cartman Built" and the Kings are looking good. -
Bettman getting a raise (again) 8 - 8,3 million in 2012 - 2013

I think he's over the salary cap for commissioners. Maybe Bettman can fight the Mountain as Tyrion's champion. -

I have a gut feeling David Clarkson owes Satan his soul for those years in NJ. I mean, he didn't have to look far to make a deal now did he? -
They kept the streak alive so I'm going to say yes.

I just love that in two years when they win another cup Daniel Cleary gets another ring. I kid the Cleary haters, I kid I kid.

$23 by my math but I'll round up to $30 since we only had one round.

I'd resign Monster for a one year deal if for no other reason Jimmy does go on IR from time to time and I don't think Mrazek is ready for #1 type minutes should it be a bad injury.

I don't think people need to panic because it's not as bad as many say nor is it as competitive as many others like to think (with their hearts). Jimmeh is ours like it or not. With his money he's going to be in Detroit quite a spell. He can become Chris Osgood or he can become Tim Cheveldae, the jury is still out. It's up to him. Before they won the back to back cups in 97-98 they didn't make massive changes to put them over the top. A Sandstrom here, a Rouse there, Homer for Dino, and not a big deal at the time when they got an aging Russian center from Vancouver (That's dumb people said, they're already so old). I agree some size and sandpaper is needed. Babcock admitted it by putting in Bert last night. If they can find a couple bangers/cornermen with even a little pop that would allow Babcock a proper energy and checking line. If Zetterberg and Datsyuk can play together on a line consistently they should have 2-3 really good years left. Find the supporting cast. I'd take any and all offers on one barnyard animal. If you can add the aforementioned bigger versions of Glendening and Helm send him away at a discount. We as a fanbase can't keep waiting for this jackass to stud again. Another defenseman, at least as good as Ericsson is now is necessary. No more 6th or 7th guys Kenny, a top 4. Now. Think Larry Murphy not Jason Woolley (As always Sparty On!). Also, our defensemen are too nice. I'll bet Jimmy Howard would like a crease clearer like a Jamie Macoun, certified d***head. Another not that expensive change for the better at the time. 3-4 middling changes I think could make a big difference and for now keep guys like Andersson and Jurco hungry and not having to play big minutes every night. I did have a nightmare where I woke up in the future in October of 2014 and Kyle Quincey was still playing for Detroit. My wife said I was talking in my sleep saying "No Kyle Quincey, hard off the boards, not up the middle again..." In my nightmare I wake up just as Quincey gives it to Phil Kessel and he shoots and scores. Again Kenny, help me sleep, a TOP FOUR guy.

GDT ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)
Jersey Wing replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
No complaining. They played hard, they hit, they didn't get pushed around, they scored a PP goal, they were Boston's equal for the most part tonight but the hockey gods just weren't handing out the luck for us tonight. Only one thing to do, play harder in game 5 -

Drew Miller scores it. -
Like I said I'm not for this move but I'll cut Babcock some slack. The guy obviously knows what he's doing, history shows this. Maybe's he's thinking back to energy he brought when he fought Klesla a few years ago vs Phoenix. Maybe he wants Bert to show as big as the B's are they bleed too.

Matt Cooke offered in-person hearing for knee hit

Cooke gets SEVEN games: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/duhatschek-the-old-matt-cooke-shows-up-again/article18090425/ The article doesn't mention the seven games but that's what he got. This is more on an anti-Cooke column
