It's the Original Six, end of discussion. Nobody can make you include something you don't want to include or call something a name you don't want to. Really. Legally. The Denver Broncos and Invesco took the writers of I believe the now defunct Rocky Mountain News to court for not referring to Mile High Stadium as Invesco Field at Mile High. They actually sued the papers and writers and of course lost. I'm invoking this same legal precedent here.

Hear me now and believe me later, the Devils win this in SIX games. I posted my long blathering take on the series on my craptastic infotainment blog ( http://jerseycitydesk.blogspot.com/2012/05/devils-vs-rangers-game-1-tonight.html ) but in a nutshell, if the Rangers can't forecheck the Rangers got nuthin. Once the Devils hit the shutoff valve on the Florida powerplay there hasn't really been an area they've struggled in. They're faster, they have more scoring depth up front and yes, guys who can create shots when the Broadway Blues pack it tight unlike most of the Sens and Caps. Unlike many the Devils aren't intimidated by MSG. It is an entire franchise and fanbase built on hating the Rangers. It is. There is a guy who whistles at set intervals at the Prudential Center and ends with the old cavalry shrill Da da da duh da da RANGERS SUCK (and they've added Flyers swallow to that ditty after the Rangers part, classy bunch that they are). The Rangers could be playing in Vancouver and yet they'll be chanting Rangers suck in Newark. Remember how we Wings fans used to laugh at the Nordilanche fans in Denver while playing Phoenix would chant "Red Wings suck"? Devils players and fans are not intimidated by the Rangers but they do have one unhealthy obsession with them. Yes Lundqvist is better (Though Brodeur has a 2.05 GAA which isn't horrid) but he will need to be. He also gets peeved and you at times can get in his head. Nothing phases Brodeur, I'm convinced of this. He looks the exact same getting shelled as posting a 40 save shutout. Yeah, I said it, Tony Soprano whacks Phil Leotardo once more. Every game is sold out but I'm going to go Saturday afternoon with second row seats in the corner to Brodeur's right (1st and 3rd). I can't wait. When you can't have the Wings this far away nasty rivalries like this must do.

Devils fans use Kovy and his 100 million contract as a whipping boy and trust me, last night was the best Kovalchuk has played all year. He's a top flight talent, he shows flashes through the regular season that makes you beg for that effort every night (ala Fedorov) but those fans (And I have it on tape) screaming at him and telling him to get off the ice.

Whenever Parise is out there good things happen. He just works and works and works. He's part Helm and part Datsyuk fused into one guy. Tonight everyone is singing Kovalchuk's praises, if the Devils play badly next game and he goes back to floating he'll be the pariah again. You are right about the Devils. I've watched them all year and have been to about 15 games to see them live. They do fly under the radar and they're doing it with, by any account, an average defense. Nothing fancy, nothing close to a Norris candidate, just steady play night in and night out.

What an awesome time at the Prudential Center tonight. Lots of Flyers fans, lots of taunting and rude language and I finally get to cheer FOR the Devils. I hate the Flyers, always have. The fact the Devils have been outplaying them this series is a wonderful thing. Ponikarovsky scored the winning OT goal not 15 feet from me but by then, deep into the first overtime, my phone battery had run down and I didn't get it. I'm sorry, teams taking money from the revenue sharing fund should be forced to say how much they receive. Other teams fans should know they are subsidizing other franchises and for how much. Reading the article is sure seems like the Preds get a LOT of money from everyone (NHL money, state money, local money) yet refuse to disclose how much they get. I mean why should the Wings have to help subsidize Nashville over a salary like Suter's when we'd ultimately like to sign him here? In essence the Wings are being forced to act against their best interests. *The Predators acknowledged that they benefit from revenue sharing but would not disclose how much. *The Predators would not disclose what percentage of the remaining $45 million was from operating losses. *Cogen would not disclose the number of sponsors or how much revenue they generate. But yet they take and take and take and a lot of people in and around Nashville don't see this as sustainable for much longer and next time they want money they WILL make them open their books it sure sounds like. When I posted this I had ZERO intention of it being any kind of liberal ideals vs conservative ideals. Those play out in a VERY DIFFERENT arena than pro sports. I'd like very much to keep the two separate. My main point is how is it allowed that Nashville refuses to give out numbers of millions of dollars they are taking from at least three fronts and still not being required to own up to how much. That's the problem. If you want the money the league for now says take the money, that's how this franchise handles things it seems. BUT, when other teams are set to bid on your free-agents those free-agents should be able to have a look at the books as should the team trying to outbid you for your guy. In Nashville's case they could be using Detroit's own money to try and sign Suter. There should be strings attached when you take league revenue/taxpayer money to stay afloat. This is one of them.

Yeah, I agree, Flyers in 6 maybe 5. If Brodeur were playing at even half his old self I'd say the Devils have an advantage in net. This would have been one of those series he maybe could have stolen because Philly's defense and netminding is horrid. I just hope in this backyard brawl that the Devils come out and beat the snot out of the Flyers in game 3 as I just got 4th row tickets. I never cheer FOR the Devils when I go. I hope for a good game, some nice plays, and maybe a good scrap. When the Flyers, in those stupid Halloween costumes, show up I've been known to join in on a "Let's go Devils" chant or two. I hate the Flyers. Always have. I hope the Devils and Rangers both win, that'd be a fun couple weeks.
