I like this compromise. Really, what were most Wings fans saying before this realignment idea was seriously considered: 1) No more constant 10:30 pm starts for the playoffs 2) Less travel 3) A home and away game against every team. While the new system will no doubt have some flaws I think it's a very fine and workable plan. It meets all three criteria that people mentioned beforehand. Less travel, earlier playoff starts and visiting everyone (and that's HUGE to a guy like me in Jersey City). Some of those old Norris first and second round playoff donnybrooks will be awesome and I also like the idea the final four is no longer an east/west thing. Like someone said you can play the Pens in the semi-final and the Sharks in the final, I'm ok with that... Put me down as a yes voat on this

I get to watch Parise quite a bit. I'm normally pretty cynical about so-called big deal trades with big names and the rumors that surround them but I'd pay a little more to get Parise into the Winged Wheel. He has a phenomenal work ethic, the's a playmaker and scores big goals. Adding him to play with with Datsyuk or Zetterberg would be an even more hellish matchup for opposing coaches. He's speedy and smart and has become a pretty serviceable penalty killer. He's all that and a bag of chips

Tonight's Officials Referees Eric Furlatt (27); Stephane Auger (15) Linesmen Tim Nowak (77); Pierre Racicot (65) Pierre Racicot or Leo Racicot?

Yeah, it's no Red Wings vs. Canucks tilt but here is tonight's shootout between the Devils and Kings at the Rock. Brodeur injured his right shoulder in the first period and toughed it out until Hedberg replaced him to begin the second. Regulation ended 1-1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Llw_8SY0mec You can see it in hi def by going to YouTube to watch

9/23 Exhibition GDT: Philadelphia Flyers 3 at Red Wings 1

It was a pretty lackluster effort. I was hoping to see more out of Brendan Smith. That being said... It was probably going to be my only game at JLA this year barring a miracle. My buddy got us the company seats in the Legends Club. Very nice. Got to meet Ken Daniels. He's a great guy. So yes it was a lackluster effort but it was a Red WIngs game in the cathedral of hockey if only for a September night -
Wings vs Nordilanche for 7 fun filled memorable games. Patrick getting pulled and sung out of Joe Louis Arena one game after the statue of liberty play. All after that horrifying game 5 OT loss at JLA when Shanahan missed a yawning net and Flopsberg scored to put Denver up 3-2

Just awful news. "Even at our birth, death does but stand aside a little. And every day he looks towards us and muses somewhat to himself whether that day or the next he will draw nigh." --Robert Bolt

See, now this is why we can't have nice things. Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, when noobs get the cup Phil Pritchard cries. We see it again and again in these debutantes and their cup damage quotient.

Have the Islanders put in a claim on Weber yet?

1) Who is your favorite Detroit Red Wing player overall to wear the Red Wings Logo? Yzerman 2) Who was your favorite Detroit Red Wing player that joined the red wings? (Non drafted by Wings, could be threw Trade / FA / Waiver etc...) Shanahan 3) Which current player would you dream of them joining the Wings? Ovechkin 4) Which are the players that really "hurt / bugged" you when they left the Red Wings to join another team? I was really unhappy the way the Fedorov thing happened. He was basically playing for his legacy and place in Wings lore when he left. Could have had his number retired. Is there a player that you never wanted him on the team ... but eventually joined the team? Macoun for his hit on LaFontaine in 1991

#1) Anyone else get the impression the writer didn't ever get that Texas Instruments calculator for Christmas as a kid? #2) "At some point"...at some point in about 3.5 billion years the sun will begin to consume itself and swell up real big and swallow Mercury, Venus and most likely Earth. At some point, weak. #3) I love the baseball previews that the Freep and Detroit News run on opening day. I'm a Braves fan, have been since around 1986 when they sucked outloud. Every season during their 14 year run of division titles the pre-season prediction almost always had another hot team of the moment that was going to stop the streak. It always sounded like a guess more out of hope they'd lose. A lot of NHL fans of teams with poor attendance or a bad front office hate the Wings constant elite status. Some of them write for ESPN. #4) THIS is a fall:

Osgood's the backup? The line for the parade forms behind me. It's a low risk move. If he eats sucks and blows you cut him and sign somebody else. There are always deals to be made for backup goalies during the season.

I have a gut feeling that the Wings will save their pennies then in one fell swoop at the trade deadline pick up Bill Ranford, Ulf Samuelsson, Wendel Clark and Chris Chelios.

I think the defense has been shored up nicely. Resigning Big E certainly helps the continuity (the salary debate for him is in another thread) and gives a nice big body (with something to prove). Commodore gives them a solid 5-6-7 guy with size and grit (also with something to prove). Ian White gives them what I'd call a very versatile, smart, defenseman. Add Kindl and Janik to the mix (I'm thinking Brendan Smith is going to be the #1 guy in GR this year) who will certainly push the last pairing for playing time and I'm feeling pretty good for one day after July 1. -
Richards to the blue shirts. More reason for me to go to MSG next year. 9 years 60 large

The Red Wings wanted this guy back. That's the trouble sometimes with a weak FA market, average guys get paid (Kopecky) and suddenly everybody goes up a million. If it were a huge year for FA's teams would take up a lot of their cap money in big signings and dole out to the average players sparingly. The market just worked against the Wings. If they saw no reason or upside to keep him the Wings could have let him go. They must see him as a piece of the puzzle. He's not that old, he's got huge game experience and now more than ever we'll see a motivated Ericsson. Patience grasshoppers. The opportunity to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself. --Sun Tzu

And in typical Forsberg style, as he walks through the line of players tapping their sticks he'll pretend to get clipped by one and take a huge dive

Ehrhoff's rights traded to NYI, then traded to Buffalo

Sign Jovo to a one year deal with the understanding if it works out we'll talk. He's from Windsor, no doubt a late trip 'back home' would do him good. At least you know what you'll get with him, the good and the average. I'm not ready to commit to any of these FA's to a long term deal. Maybe throw a lowball at someone like Barker and see if he wants to play for an A list club with superstars. Screw it, sign Big Eric on defense as that won't break us, resign Eaves and see what the kids bring. See if they're 'over ripe'. If you need to you'd have a boatload of cash to hit the trade deadline with. -

Makarov Barrasso Nieuwendyk Howe (red colored glasses, so sue me) See, Sergei Bautin gets no love here and this chain smoking defenseman should be the mascot for LGW.
