I detest Crosby and the Penguins but that was pretty funny. Reminded me of the sheer volume of plastic rats that used to rain down in Florida

I don't understand all the sheer panic by some people here. #1, there is NOTHING a fan can do. We're along for the ride. We can't backcheck harder, we can't go to the net harder, we can't clear the critical puck in the third period, we can't call guys up and we can't make trades. The Red Wings know what they're doing. The players and coaches KNOW what the problem is, the front office knows what the problem is. But for a crossbar and another goal we're sitting here saying "Stanley Cup hangover". Again, there is no better model franchise than the Detroit Red Wings. As Paula Deen says I think we as a fanbase are "spawled". The Wings have played deep into the playoffs for so many years running, and playoff hockey sure ain't regular season hockey, father time may be catching up a little. It happens. We all know there has been a lot of turnover on the roster and some talent is missing, but a lot remains. I'm more than willing to give the Wings ANY kind of mulligan they need this season. If it means a #7 or a #3 seed or it means a 10th place finish, as disappointing as that would be, I'm MORE THAN WILLING to give this franchise a break. It's not like it's the Lions and we sit and wonder if they're even trying. It's not like the RichRod situation at Michigan where doubt creeps in that "maybe we made some wrong choices". These are the Detroit Red Wings. They will right the situation and start winning as they always do, or they won't and that's OK too. They've more than earned our trust, forgiveness, and respect. Now, grab a cold one, and sit back and root for YOUR Detroit Red Wings. Sure it might mean we have to root a little harder than in the past, don't be spawled, just root

Woo Hoo! Just got my Wings vs Devils and Rangers tix
Jersey Wing replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
I got both sets of tickets on StubHub and I called the Prudential Center to ask when the public single game tickets were to go on sale and all I got was a droid worker trying to sell me mini season ticket plans "You can get weekend plans, Atlantic Division panes....yadd yadda yadda". She never told me when the single games would go on sale. My guess is soon but it's a good idea to check each Saturday and see. Yes the lowest MSG tickets on StubHub were $60 apiece but I was most worried about those going faster so I got those first. -
Got sick of waiting and found great seats (via Stubhub) for the Devils at the Rock, section 17 row 2 and upper level seats at MSG the next night. That was my deal with my wife, excellent seats at the Rock as they'd be cheaper and just get into MSG for the Sunday game. It is a high and holy weekend of hockey in early December! Any Wings fans going who wanna hook up for a cold pop (and I mean pop, I'm not a drinker but you sure can) lemme know. Let's go Red Wings!!!

Don't panic just yet, the regular seats haven't been released and there were some very very reasonable tickets to the December 5th game on StubHub -
I like those but I'll be DAMNED as a red blooded American if I'd ever get caught wearing one. The Olympics are the one time I become a national chauvanist. The hell with the rest of the world. After watching Brian Williams all those years almost fall down laughing when a USA athlete didn't win a medal I've kinda sorta built up a healthy dislike of some in the Canadian Olympic story. The Canadian women making up crap about the USA gals using a Canadian jersey as a footmat really po'd me. Don Cherry helping sell it made me mad. The loonie buried in OUR ice in Salt Lake City tells me what little smarmy weasels some Canadians can be. Before you hop on me I come from Canadian lineage. My grandfather was in the RCMP in the 1910's-1920's in Regina. He was a real Dudley Do-Right. I cheer for USA hockey, I AM AN AMERICAN!!! name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

I think it's AWESOME. My father in law is a huge walleye fisherman. Lives for it. Now I know what I'm getting him for Christmas
-
Thank YOU for making mention of his inclusion on the HHOF. I had to to a quick rack of the brain to remember where I read that article. I knew it was during this year's playoff run and thought it would make a good addition to your thread.

Congrats to him. It's a certainly a well earned honor. He built the proverbial better mousetrap. It's a shame Sidney Crosby wouldn't shake his hand that time I read a really nice article on Frank and his family business in the New York Times in May. Now you can too: PARAMOUNT, Calif. — At least one well-known American vehicle manufacturer is rolling out vehicles as usual. But before a Zamboni can take the ice, it hits the pavement on Colorado Avenue. The neighbors are used to it by now, seeing one of the blocky ice-resurfacing machines rumble out of the low-slung Zamboni factory and trudge down the block — top speed: 9 miles per hour — toward the corner KFC. It whirls and comes back, is checked for leaks and fitted with studded tires. The rest: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/23/sports/h...boni&st=cse

Whomever they sign I'd like it to be a defensive first kinda guy. The PK was miserable last year and with the players they have to do it with there is no excuse. Maybe the top 5 or 6 guys were just worn out from doing it. Peca is a top notch faceoff guy and Grier is a big body who plays a pretty good defensive game. Not sure if either of those guys are where the Wings are headed but a one dimensional purpose player like Dallas Drake worked out well, maybe a checker and faceoff guy like Peca could help.
-
I'd sure appreciate a goal scoring outburst when they play at the Prudential Center and MSG
-
Are you kidding, this counts as an (e)6 at Eklund's place
-
No, I think they NEEDED to get Pahlsson even for this price. Scoring players can slump, I find guys making their names on faceoffs and defense first don't slump in those categories. Hard workers tend to be hard workers defense wise. Columbus eeked into the playoffs, and they CANNOT afford a backslide. They play all those division games vs guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Hossa still, Kane, Toews, Backes, Boyes, Arnott and Legwand they NEED a stopper somewhere. Peca just isn't that guy anymore.

TSN Talking About GM's Being Foolish on July 1
Jersey Wing replied to MadMan Mark's topic in General
The Hawks needed to address their defense corps before a big name two way forward. In a world of Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Beauchemin, Niedermayer, Phaneuf, Ryan Whitney, Bouwmeester they simply need more top defense to help cover certain pylons that may or may not be getting another misconduct. -
I look at it like this (and a lot of teams don't afford you this luxury), over the last few years the Wings front office and Ken Holland on or around July 1st or Free Agent Season if you please, have brought in Hasek, Robitaille, Hull, Rafalski (minutes after Schneider bolted), Hossa, all of whom have played worth the money for the most part or won a championship (and if you use Hossa as an example as one who didn't work out because of the Final, lest we forget people also wanted Datsyuk GONE after a couple sub par playoffs). Relax, Kenny and Stevie Wonder know what they're doing. The owner knows what's what. They'll do what's right by the Wings come this July 1st. They have a track record of winning the Stanley Cup of GMing.

And using simple math we all know that 11 > 3 Careful breaking out that greater than sign friend-o, it's not always your friend

The Wings will be coming out here next year and I'll have a chance to see them in NJ and over at MSG, those will be red letter days

Damn fine artwork. I think you really captured the spirit of the thing" --Dickie Dunn

God I hate the Devils logo. I hate their color scheme too. Guess where I get to see most of my NHL games now and am getting a mini season ticket plan to. Now it looks like Mr Trap Jacques Lemaire is coming back as coach. Dandy The Penguins are fine, I like the old Penguin from the 70's. All the Original Six are aces. Nashville blech Columbus blech St. Louis, cool, very good, like the old note Colorado is awful I liked the black and silver Kings, the big question is what color will they be this year?

I've read a lot of back and forth on this, the good the bad and the otherwise. Yes, Hossa had a subpar playoff run. There is no denying this fact. He did not live up to the monniker "Of those much is given much is expected". A few years ago, seemingly this same "Screw Hossa he blows and can't perform in the playoffs were the same crowd dogging Pavel Datsyuk after a couple sub-par playoff runs. They wanted him run out on a rail as well. I still remember hearing quite loudly and boisteroulsy in the Joe Louis Arena (though NONE will admit to it now) that Yzerman was the problem and he needed to go as he was NEVER going to get the Wings over the top and they should trade him while he had value. Hossa had a fine regular season, the Wings top goal scorer. One of the reasons the Wings had game 7 at home last Friday. He's pretty young, in his prime and now from what this thread says they want to sign him on an average of 3 million dollars LESS than they had him for this year. He plays hard two ways, brings great speed to the table and allows Babcock to mix and match Hossa, Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Franzen. In case some of the boot Hossa crowd didn't notice, the Mule pretty much went missing the later the playoffs ran. With the Abdelkaders, Leinos, and Helms ready to play up front that really fills in the forward position nicely. Again, more options to mix and match for Babcock. Scotty did pretty well being able to have pieces to mix and match and Babcock does pretty well too. I think overall, unless you think Hollard and Yzerman and the rest of the front office are buffoons who don't know what they're doing, resigining Hossa makes sense. You are just going to have to trust Holland and Yzerman

This is not my original and if it's a repost I apologize in advance. My good friend Trixie who is also a member here sent this to me

I posted this in another thread but should have put it here, it fits better. The future is bright indeed. Look at all we learned about guys like Helm, Abdelkader, Ericksson, and Leino going forward. Baptized under fire and they played well. The core of this team is wicked strong AND we have the best front office in the NHL to help get the pieces to keep us playing for the Cup going forward. So, my fellow Red Wings nation, I say to you:
