im sorry man but people are going to rip you apart, but at least i won't because im just not an online tough guy i guess. i disagree about goaltending, but thats because osgood is just playing too well. the only way to honestly upgrade is getting a fleury/luongo/miller type, and that would cost way to much. osgood literally is perfect for our team. he is an a highly above average goalie, who is making peanuts compared to the rest of the leagues goaltenders. he is here to stay. i do agree a certain type of goal scorer we haven't had would really help. a pure, snipefest goal scorer. we have so many amazing playmakers, but not enough people who finish in the clutch. the type like cheechoo, ovechkin, carter, nash, cammalari would be great too. obviously were not going to get some of these specific players but i'm just giving examples of the type im talking about. franzen is great, but we need at least one more. remember how hull complemented pavels passes?? just like that.

after the game i imediately felt the wings just didn't play with the passion it takes to win the cup in game 7. they just didn't want it as badly as the other team. but... it just didn't make sense. so i watched the game again. after that, i reflected on how the season has gone, with osgood playing like the future hall of famer he now in my mind deserves to be, stuart stepping up for injured D, the amazing game 7 against anaheim by the whole team, and many other great things. and that's when it hit me. i really believe that in game 7 the wings played their god damn hearts out. i believe that everyone wanted the cup. i beileve they mentally were prepared as a returning championship team can be. i also believe, they just were out of steam. the wings didn't overachieve, they just ran out of gas. they were hurt, they were injured, they were physically overwelmed over the playoff stretch. why this year? why not the same result last year? because this year we played all the teams the nhl didn't want us to beat. this year we played all the teams that we were "supposed" to beat. that is why from round 1 to the finals, the refs let the opposing team get away with murder, with what ever it took to be competitive with us. that is why physically we couldn't do it anymore. datsyuk can only take so many baseball swings to his foot, osgood can only take so many slashes and run ins, the fowards can only take so many cross checks to the face, while the defense can only take so many late head checks in the corners. the wings did not lose to just the penguins. they lost to the whole underdog advantage system the playoffs consist of. they lost to bettmen/pens/refs. and only because their human. i want to say god bless you boys for sticking it through and giving your 110% this season, it was hell of a ride, and you only delay the enievitable fix for so long. maybe next year it will be different. Get em next year wings!!

a good point. maltby on channel 4 was emphasizing how lack of effort was the last thing their problem was though, i didn't see any other interviews though due to my denial of watching the pens hoist stanley.

adrenaline only takes you so far, and with the cheapshots allowed by every team we played you know half the team wasn't 100% healthy. datsyuk and zetterburg going to the bench last night looked like they were about to keel over they were completely drained.

brad stuart was a big reason we even made it to game 7, he had a bad game, but as a team so did EVERYONE else. stop all of the scape goating. i am just as pissed at the next guy, but this is stupid. the red wings tonite were the sloppiest they have been all playoffs. besides lids, filp, and helm i didn't see the any other wing playing their 100% best. the other team did what it took. the wings didn't.

we arn't on hudler and cleary's ass because they arn't making lidstrom level money. add huds and clearys salary together and your only barely matching the cap space hossa takes up.

my worry isnt where dats is on the line up, but how healthy he is going to be. if he is 100% that takes 50% of the load off hanks shoulders. if he's not... then who knows.

i agree that defense wins championships, but i wouldn't say fleury is exactly weak. Last game was not so stellar but he has a weak defensive corps in my opinion not to mention he is very young and is yet to reach his prime. he is very athletic and his reflexes are amazing. with out fleury the pens don't even make the finals IMO.

by no means did i make this topic to say kronwall hasn't been playing well this playoffs, because he has been playing well but i just am curious why we are not see his open ice layouts like last run. He has been playing physical along the boards still but i just don't see him going for the people with their head down center ice or on the blue. is it because this year teams know of his presence on the break out or do you think kronwall just isn't trying it as much? just curious to know if anyone has noticed and what people think.

see that's exactly it, burrows and the rest don't even mean it at all, their just throwing out there what ever they think might throw a player off his game. its the nature of competition. In most cases, these comments are toward people who have a reputation of being a hothead and so the players try to exploit it. nothing more to it.

It's unfortunate that the broadcast picked up what was said(although i find it personally hillarious) but this is different than what happened with avery. avery, like others had said, was a pre planned event in an interview. This was typical hockey trash talk. to some who haven't played the game in a competitive full contact level, it may come as a shocker, but this is not even bad compared to what else is said. I myself took pride on getting the best opposing players kicked out of the game for trying to take a swing at me after me digging in to them every faceoff with horrible comments. Its just what goes down. i myself would keep the wives out of things, but hey, it happens. Im sure backes had choice words towards them before that which wasn't picked up that were just as rude. its hockey. and i love it. maybe have a 7 second delay to bleep out what's needed?

As great of a line up that would be, I don't believe chelios would of ever became a wing if it wasn't for what happened to vladdy. And with fisch and vladdy all still here rafalski probably wouldn't be here either. but then again you could say that about anyone if history changed.

I could be wrong but wasn't it the wings defense coach from last year that went to san jose this season?? if it is... then why is this not brought up in discussion?? our defense has pretty much the same parts... just different results... wouldn't the coaching change have something to do with it?
