According to the exact written rule, this was not ilegal and should not of been called. It was pure bulls*** hockey though and just as bad and detrimental to the spirit of the game though. This situation should be a red flag that this rule just needs to be changed since it is obviously possible to wave your glove in the goalies face with out facing the tender. This move both pronger and avery have made is "douchebaggery" at it's finest and I can't help but to give props to the refs for making the call because in the spirit of good hockey it was the right thing to do, no matter what the rule book says. I really doubt there is a rule in the book that says you can't squirt maple syrup in a goalie's eyes while in front of the net, so should that not be called either? I believe the refs should have the right to make calls like these when players try to find loopholes to cheat in new ways that arn't in the book.

although i support the right to choose what you wear either way, I have to say a visor or cage is even more needed in amateur leagues. The idiots who call them selves "hockey players" in some beer leagues and drop ins ive encountered make the worst decisions with the stick or puck that i have ever seen. The pros at least at this time still have a little bit better sense of respect and awareness when it comes to hockey that allows them to wear less protection.

for being easily one of the most skilled and hardest hitting checkers to play the game, he was very clean. all be it some a tad late he kept his shoulder in front with just about all of those. 1. we don't know how much howard has left in the tank, so no one has the right to say hes out of gas, especially when hes the reason were in the run for a playoff spot. 2. he may be playing a brodeur length season, but is that necessarly a bad thing?? i wouldn't mind having an amazing goaltender over 50 games a year, and it looks like babcock doesn't either. 3. top ten save percentage and goals against average, on a team that isn't the dominate team like they used to be this year. he is earning every start he gets, and osgoods feelings has nothing to do with making playoffs. I don't see any other teams in the playoff race sitting their best players at the most vital moment of the season, why should we?

so osgood slappies, i finally understand the logic: when osgood does bad, the defense is terrible. when howard does good, the defense is amazing, and howard is the only reason any goals go in..... oh and the one criticism anyone can find to make about howard is he makes too many saves??? i will take that over some slop show imfamous for letting in center ice goals any day

this is great news, the boys are finally getting healthy again. although we have a long list of injuries to still survive through, i think this season might be what the wings needed. im not glad anyone was hurt but i think this forced them to light a fire under their butts and to get a little hungry again. losing to a few rivals through out the season i feel gives them more to play for come playoff time, to win some respect back. im feeling optimistic about the second half.

our problem is we dont clear the front of the net. we have the softest D in the league when it comes to clearing the garbage goal oppurtunities. lilja i feel is missed terribley for this. lidstrom, the best defensemen to ever wear the winged wheel has never been a good defensemen in front. he isn't physical, along with the rest of them besides stuart, and little bit of kronwall. osgood can't stop the 5th rebound, nor can any other human.

first off, you have no idea how much hockey i have played and its 15 years, but everyone has their opinion regardless of their backround. the charges from the blue line??? how was he supposed to get in to the zone with out making any strides whatsoever. with your logic, every single hit made by a foward entering the defensive zone at any point is a charge. also, hoping a horrible accident happens on anyone just makes you sound like a jackass.

my condolences for your loss, but its still hockey. whats so stupid is if the kid gets up this is a sportscenter highlight and since he didn't its a crimescene. the kid put him self in a vulnerable situation, and a grinder made a check that the kid knew was coming. and although i consider this boardingish, i still feel boarding is a very gray area rule because its all about how the player takes a hit

as far as elbows and such, this was a legal hard hit arms down with the follow through. as far as charging, it was debatable, since he did my move which is sprint then coast, which provides a loop hole to the 5 strides. as for boarding, it was a 5 minute major in my opinion, being his position along the boards being blindsided. all and all, i wouldn't even blame the hitter, because the defensemen didn't take care of how he was exposed being well aware of a forthcoming hit. it was very unfortunate that the man was injured, but turning your back is the dumbest move you can do with someone barreling down the ice at you. Especially if your on the boards. the hitter was crashing the zone just like every foward in the world does, and if the kid got up it would of been a routine play with a hard hit. the idea of these hits are to keep the defensemen worried about themselves over the puck, to force them to get rid of the puck instead of making a play, and i think its safe to say it worked a little too well. thats hockey, keep your head up.
