You're seeing it in slow-motion. The reality is that Savard was making a play on the puck and Cooke made a bad play to try and take him out from the blind side. He had him lined up, but Savard was still moving and not protecting himself when he took the hit. I see the same thing at least once per season in lacrosse (which I coach at the high school varsity level): guy's not paying attention to a slide, sliding defenseman doesn't line up the hit right and boom, guy is out with a concussion. It's a borderline dirty hit. Should it be legal? Definitely not. Head shots should be penalized like in the Olympics: 5 minute major (and game misconduct?). There's a lot of overreaction (for example someone on the ESPN forums saying it was as bad as Bertuzzi's head punch) and hyperbole going around about the hit, but in the end when you see it at normal speed, it looks like a big hit that happened to get a guy in the head. Major penalty, maybe game misconduct, done. Suspension if it's more serious (looks like obvious intent, etc).

It was a borderline dirty hit. No elbow (do you guys need your eyes checked? His elbow is tucked the whole way through the hit) and his aim was a bit off. Hits to the head—intentional or unintentional—need stiffer penalties. That's a fact. I just don't think that this was a blatant dirty hit. If it was, there are some Kronwall hits you guys need to look at and reevaluate.

Separated shoulder lingering, IMO. Those injuries take a while to come back from completely. Cleary looks to be having the same kind of problems.

If you're wearing Red Wings gear, you're pretty safe in any bar/restaurant in the Detroit area. Especially Hockeytown and Cheli's.

I read your post; I just happen to think that every post you make is retarded. Look at what the US has on paper compared to Canada, Russia, and Sweden. Hell, even Finland. If Miller is standing on his head, I could see the USA possibly going to the gold medal game, but if he's looking at all human, I can't see the team in front of him doing as well as Canada and Russia.

After watching Russia and Canada yesterday, USA doesn't have a shot in hell in getting silver or gold. We'll have to see in a few hours how Sweden looks, but based on their lineup, they're gonna be pretty ridiculous as well. I could maybe see the USA getting a bronze in an upset over Sweden, but I strongly doubt that the USA has a chance at a gold or silver based on their lineup and how they played yesterday.

And NHL10 Ken Holland traded Ozzie and Howard for Turco and Halak in my Be A Pro offseason between the '10 and '11 seasons. I really don't like that game's AI.

True story, I played pickup hockey with Hilary Knight growing up for like 5-8 years.

Fans on the glass (not in line of sight of a puck) and ads in LED lights on the boards are two completely different things. Soccer (which has LED boards for advertisement around the field) has a huge ball that needs to be kept track of; hockey has a small black puck that can often disappear even with players on the ice blocking it. It would be near impossible to see if there were also LED boards shining in the players' eyes while they were trying to see a puck tossed off the boards and into their end. Something akin to e-ink (used in Amazon's Kindle e-reader) wouldn't be a bad thing; it just can't be bright lights shining into the eyes of the players. For a better demonstration, try taking a ball and tossing it up at the sun and trying to catch it. That's far stronger, but still the same concept. Small moving object and light shining in your eyes is hard as hell to see.
