I definitely agree; he's lost something in terms of shooting and offensive edge this season, through no fault of his own. He's not completely NHL-ready yet, and needs time in GR.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure how it works either; I know you have unlimited roster space after the trade deadline, but how does that effect the salary cap? If you have unlimited space after the trade deadline (as it would make sense, since you have to make everyone fit under the cap before) so you can move players up from the AHL, we should be fine. If I'm totally wrong, then we still need to shed some players. I'd really rather not, but I'd imagine if Leino and May aren't playing better by then, we may see them sent to waivers and to the AHL (if someone doesn't pick them up).

Yeah, looks like this thread is irrelevant now. 3-4 weeks puts Homer almost to the Olympics, and Franzen will be after the Olympics, so that's $6.2m off the books. Looks like we've got the space again.

With Homer out, I'd expect: Dats - Z - Bert Cleary - Fil - Miller Draper - Helm - Eaves May - Abby - Maltby or: Bert - Dats - Fil Miller - Z - Cleary Draper - Helm - Eaves May - Abby - Maltby Could also see Eaves with Dats and Bert, but I wouldn't count on it. My own guess would be Z and Dats together unless they're not clicking.

Someone photoshop up a dartboard with faces of the wings on it and darts sticking in some of their faces. I'm pretty sure that's what's happening; someone has a voodoo dartboard or some s***, and they're tossing darts at random. "LOL I HIT HOMER! OUT FOR 3-4 WEEKS!"

You haven't experienced booing until you've worn Wings gear in Chicago. I'll be at the 2/6 game as well.

HAY WUTS HYPERBOLE AND CAN IT BE USED AS A RHETORICAL DEVICE?
-
That second line would make me kill myself by the end of the first period, at which time the score would be 65 - 0, and Homer/Bert/Abby would all be -65.

If you're blaming a goalie for losing a game where his team played like s***, were you blaming Ozzie when he was standing on his head and still losing games to Anaheim and Pittsburgh last year? I bet you were. It's tough to have a good game when the team in front of you is playing like garbage.

Howard isn't a young goaltender anymore with some of the games he's stolen. He's also the 7th best goalie in the NHL right now, ahead of (or on the same level as) guys like Brodeur, Lundqvist, Thomas, Vokoun, Nabokov, Luongo, Varlamov... I would never take out a goalie who's played as well as Jimmy Howard, no matter what someone else has done in the past. When Howard starts looking shaky, you can bet your ass that Osgood will be putting on his old-as-dirt brain bucket and getting out there, but until then, I would go with Jimmy Howard. He's the future (whether as backup or the #1 guy isn't clear yet), and you need to build that confidence and resilience that Osgood has.
-
He's been doing that when he's felt up to it for a few months now.
-
I will never be thankful for injuries, but I'm thankful for the way the team has fought through them. Maintaining .500 hockey was crucial until we could get our guys back and start winning. Howard has been more than a little part of that, and I'm very impressed with him.
-
It'll be logical until Howard isn't the 7th best goalie in the NHL. I realize that Osgood has turned it on in the playoffs before (and repeatedly), but he's not a required tool to win in the post-season. Howard has been playing exceptionally well (best goalie in the NHL by dollar amount paid, probably by FAR), and until he starts playing poorly, I see no reason at all that Osgood should start unless Howard needs a break. That includes the playoffs.
-
Yeah, it was the 22nd (or at least, that's when he was put on LTIR). So the 12th would be about 7 weeks, 19th would be a bit more than 8.

I thought that Kronwall was aiming for the 19th, not the 12th. I could easily be wrong, but that's what I thought I read. And the setback was because they thought that he might be back early; he's actually going to be back right on time at this point.
-
Howard is right about at the #7 goaltender mark in the entire NHL. Do you really want to start Osgood, who may or may not have a solid first game back over a goalie that's playing as well as Howard? Also, my thought reading about Z/Cleary a few hours ago: "THANK GOD."
-
I hate to take a dump all over your grasp of the English language, but if there's an L in a word, it doesn't sound the same as if there's not.
-
Actually, Osbad is a legitimate nickname for Osgood. I mean, Pens fans use it, so it must be officially licensed and trademarked by the NHL, right? Thus legitimate. Osisuckduringtheregularseason just doesn't have the same ring to it. Also, I had multiple sources, you just didn't understand the difference between an NHL writer that does not work for the Red Wings and a promotional article written by and released by Red Wings staff. That and Holmer makes no sense since everyone calls him "Homer".
-
Yes, because mlive and Yahoo calling him Holmer and the Detroit Free Press calling him Homer completely solves it in your favor; especially when EVERYONE pronounces it Homer. Without the L. Oh, and the Red Wings organization themselves call him Homer. Just saying.
-
No, the source I provided works when it comes from the Detroit Red Wings directly. When you use the same publication with a different writer, it doesn't work, as that person isn't affiliated with the Red Wings in any official capacity.
-
Brian Compton is an NHL.com staff writer. The article I linked to was about the "Homer for the Holidays" deal, which is directly from the Red Wings organization. But Konnan is right, it doesn't matter. I thought I'd be nice and correct you, but this has been WAY too many posts on the subject. Whoa, buddy. I'm a dude. Don't take away my masculinity.

I never said +43 was bad, I just said it wasn't good. Guys like Dats and Z are +170 and +124, respectively. Granted they're different caliber players, but even Draper is a career +78, and he's not a goal scorer (and has never been a goal scorer, nor been on a goal scoring line, frankly). I think you're fairly accurate with your $2m cap hit; I was aiming for $2/$1.5 for his 2 years at a cap hit of $1.75 per, but I can see that going up by $500k. Don't think he'll get more than $2m, as that's the most I'd pay him.

A news outlet can spell names (especially nicknames) wrong?! Get the hell out of town! Yeah, I should have quoted the OP. My bad.
-
Can you sign for less than a year? Well, technically I guess you can; you can pull a Michael Crabtree and wait until halfway into the season to sign, and miss the entire training camp and then have an incredibly mediocre season after being the #5 draft pick and bitching about it.
-
Yup, you're right; that's why the Red Wings organization calls him Homer. I don't really care to debate it, because every single time I've heard anyone say Homer, it's been without an L sound in it à la Homer Simpson.
