Chicago chants "Detroit Sucks" when Hawks play other teams?
Theophany replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
I have personal experience with "Detroit sucks" chants. The best was at the Winter Classic, when the "Detroit sucks" chant was far, far louder than "let's go Hawks". Even funnier, "let's go Wings" was louder than both. The second best was the Hawks game I went to on the 9th (vs LA). I happened to be wearing a Wings shirt (specifically the '08 Cup Champs shirt) and it took people around me three periods to notice; I was on my way back from the restroom and a buddy of mine started a "Detroit sucks" chant as I was coming up the stairs. Instantly the entire section started chanting, quickly followed by half the UC. All I could do was laugh, since it was better (volume-wise) than any "let's go Hawks" chant that had been going all night. Fans in Chicago are generally incredibly stupid. And yes, that's a fact. -
Fixed that for you, and Homer would own everyone's face in that stat.

Hahaha, I saw that somewhere recently. Hysterical.
-
Yeah, but that's expected. He's the perfect defenseman.

Yeah, to be completely honest, I'm thinking that both Draper and Lids get contract offers (2 years max, low $) after their current contracts are up. Both look to be in phenomenal physical condition this year, and both are playing great hockey. I think Lids missing a puck at the blue line yesterday was the first time in a loooong time that I've seen him make a mistake.

I don't know if I'd go that far. But yes to the rest of it.

Is that an objective observation, or is it just a feeling you have? I realize that seeing the Euro Twins together is awesome (trust me, I love seeing them play on the same line), but I don't think that the Wings have any more success with them on the same line. I'm with Marcus on this one; I'd put the lines like... Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Leino-Zetterberg-Cleary Bertuzzi-Filppula-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves Mainly because I don't think that anyone else is ready to center the third line but Filppula (if we want to keep our energy line together, which I think has been tied for our best line all season with the current Z line). I also want to see Franzen in Bertuzzi's current spot, since he makes the current Bertuzzi look like a complete joke on the first line, from a scoring perspective. With those lines, the third line is easily our weakest link, which says something.

I don't think either of them are worth the money they get paid, personally. When Crosby, Malkin, or Ovechkin starts to be responsible in their defensive zone, then I'll think they're worth it. Whether they're worth it or not, I think Crosby is the bigger threat just because he's a better playmaker than Malkin is. Either way, Overchkin is better than both of them, and Zetterberg and Datsyuk are better than him. That's not me being a homer, either. I also think a guy like Getzlaf is better than the media jerkoff kids.

Those mouthguards look pretty nice. I may have to pick up one for lacrosse this season.

I was thinking they were fake teeth, just like a plastic version of the enamel-imitating normal fakes so they didn't break.

Tried it here in Seattle. No dice. I'm pretty sad.

That doesn't make any sense at all, looking at the past. Stevie Y retired in 2006; who's been the Captain since then? Lidstrom. How old was Lidstrom when he got the C? 36. If Zetterberg retires at the age of 40 (which would be a great career for him), Filppula would still be 35; younger than Lidstrom when he got the C. I see no issue with Filppula getting the C when/if the time comes; granted, we're probably 10 years from that point, so who knows what may change.
-
I prefer CLEARYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY when he scores.
-
Trust me, I'm pretty irritated as well. I live in Seattle.
-
Fixed that for you, bro.
-
Yup, you're right. That doesn't make sense. Why would they have already had Filppula as an A and then award an A to Cleary when they have one open up full-time? Filppula is already being groomed into being the next Captain of the Wings. Of course, things can change, but Cleary will never be that guy. Filppula, Dats, and another guy will probably rotate Alternate duties as Draper, Dats, and Z have.

To be frank it's extremely unlikely, even in the hard economic times we're in. An order of curly fries is what, a dollar or two? Multiply that by the population of Michigan (the absolute maximum number of people that would qualify for it), and at most it would cost a couple million dollars in what's probably a multi-billion dollar company. My guess is it will cost them a couple thousand dollars (possibly a couple hundred thousand at most), but people will also probably buy a sandwich with their free fries (or a drink), and actually MAKE money on the promotion.
-
I have never seen Z without the A.
-
Wings rotate the A as it is right now between Dats and Draper. Draper wasn't wearing an A tonight and Dats was; the game before, Dats had no A and Draper did. Zetterberg is the clear choice for the C after Lids hangs 'em up. Since Fil has worn the A before, we'll probably see him and Dats as As in the future; Fil is likely going to stay a Wing for life, and they're probably grooming him already to take the spot that Z is in right now. Dats is an exception because he's a star of the team, though his English isn't great. That's why he'll always be a rotating A, not a full-time (even if he wears it more often than not).

Yeah, this. I'd much rather have Howard being aggressive and comfortable; making the huge stops and let in one goal than be between the pipes all night long, looking like a lost puppy. The main thing to take from the last two games is that the defense has finally learned what "clearing the crease" means. Watching rebounds and players in the crease and clearing them out or locking them up.

Yeah his hands may be slightly better than Helm's, but Helm has speed to create chances. He's so ridiculously fast that he's going to get penalty shots or at the very least draw interference calls. Even when he doesn't get calls, he's going to create chances like he did against the Ducks last year in the playoffs.

As much as I'd love to see this, it's not gonna happen. Same thing with Miller scoring two goals in a night. You'll see two goals out of guys like Helm, Draper, Abdelkader, Kronwall, Z, Dats, Homer, etc first. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a good addition (from what we saw last night), but he's not a goal scorer.

I was screaming at the TV all night when Bert got the puck. He's had some great games, but tonight he was awful. He did pretty much the opposite of what he should have done every time he had the puck.

Just wanted to point out, as someone that knows a ton about authentic jerseys, that the jerseys sold by Jack and DHGate are obvious fakes; most obviously from the material they're made out of, but also because of name placement and how the letters look. You can see on this image what I mean, when you compare the lettering to other jerseys. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/the...ny/IMG_0367.jpg

It was actually Draper that fell, and when one of your best defensive (and fastest) forwards falls on the backcheck, bad things are gonna happen. It was bad play all around, Draper falling, Lebda not stepping up at the right time, and Ozzie not getting his pads down. Either way, Lilja being in instead of Lebda wouldn't prevent that goal.
