I totally disagree here. Columbus is playing the best hockey in our division right now. They have won the last 5 in a row, 3 of which they came from behind. Bobbrovski has been unreal.....second in the league in save percentage at .931. They were in 13th spot before the trade deadline and they have played hard, physical hockey and deserve to be where they are. We have a game in hand but the last 5 games they have NOT been playing the oilers....they have consecutive wins against SJ, St. Louis! Minny, Col and Anaheim last night. Everyone on that team is contributing and they frighten me. Detroit needs to take a page out of that book....never say die, never give up and keep it SIMPLE! Let's hope we can do that

I watched both games last night. Dallas made SJ look like an AHL team in the first period. They lost their legs a bit in the 3rd but Dallas looked very strong. Columbus....I don't even know what to say....Bobrovski honestly looks like he could be in the convsation for the Vezina. I think early in the season, everyone looked at the Jackets as a basement dweller team who would do nothing as per usual. Once they got some solid goaltending this team found their identity. They have a lot of confidence right now and they should. We need 4 points in the next two games.....2 or 3 won't do. CBL want to show Nash and Carter they don't want and don't need them. Dallas wants to remind Roy and Riberio the same thing. We want to keep the streak alive and believe that ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs...you just have to win. Let's hope everyone on the Wings roster plays every shift, takes every hit necessary to make a play, blocks every shot they can and finds a way to find the back of the net. Like I said in the Chicago game day post, we will find out exactly the character of this team in the next two games. I wonder what we are really made of.

I am obviously in the minority here but I thought they played very well tonight and good last night against San Jose. Am I pissed that we didn't walk out of Chicago with 2 points....of course, but it seems like we are playing with passion. Gus belongs in this line up and Miller and Abby have superceeded their potential. I think a lot of the guys have stepped it up, even though we apparently cant score more than two goals in one game ever. The Toews goal wasn't some lame five hole garbage from the point. Howie made the 1st save and NOBODY is going to make the second save on Toews. This is a team that will most likely win the Presidents Trophy, the best goalie tandem in the NHL and has offense out the wazoo. To me, the last two games, playing very talented teams have been really good. I'm more concerned about playing teams that are clearly less talented than us. Nashville will show this teams true colours, much more than us losing in a SO to the leagues best.

He actually reminds me a bit of Tomas Fleismann who we once had. He has a better dangle but lacks the consistency. Like Fleismann, he is someone who is a late bloomer. I think Brunner will be fantastic once he gets accustomed to the checking, traveling and pace of the game. He has all the talent in the world,just needs to get acclimatized.

If Holland doesnt see the glaring weaknesses in this team by now....begging for a playoff spot, well...He needs to retire

Well, we all have to start rooting for the Hawks, the Ducks, Vancouver and Minnie. The next week will be difficult play as we need a W against a super hot San Jose team on Thursday ( Ill be at the game cheering our boys on) or Chicago on the weekend. This week is critical because 7, 9 and 10 all have an easier schedules...hopefully we get a few lucky bounces for us and St. Louis, PHX and Dallas take a loss or 2. Nxt week it gets a bit easier with games against the Preds, The Flames and Vancouver who we have played well all year. Phx and Dalls have harder schedules that us..PHX plays SJ twice, as does Dallas. They also plays Anaheim and Chicago. Dallas has LA twice and Chicago. C'me on boys....we can DO this

You have to examine ice time, special teams and whatnot as well. Z, Pavel, Mule ect play on PP. Miller, Eaves, Toots, Emdog never get opportunistic goals- they are usually trying to prevent them. Hard to score when the top two line are getting 22 minutes a night and other guys get 6, 8 or 10. Just sayin'

I doubt that. I thnk MANY teams are interested in Flip for what he brings on both sides of the puck. Wouldnt pay the money? Well, take a look... Its hard to really gauge what Flip is worth. Is he better than David legwand (4.5 mil) Better than RJ Umberger (4.6 million) ...well, I would say yes. PA Parentau makes 4 million as does Drew Stafford. i think he is worth 4.5. F3ck....if Sammy makes 3 million (barf) Fil should get 4.2-4.6

I disagree that there won't be much action in the off season. There are ALOT of teams who just wagered big bucks on the last 13 games of the season. Philly, the Wild...just to name a few are going to have to dump some players to get under the cap next season. I can see a guy like Setoguchi or Koivu let go due to the trades made today. We won't have that problem....which allows the Wings to be contenders for these guys. As for Flip, coming into the season he may have needed 5 million but I don't think he will walk away from a decent offer here. In every interview I have seen, Fil wants to stay and for the right price, I want him to. He hasn't had a good year...then again, besides Z and Pavel, who has? Gus is ready, Tatar is ready....unload the boys who can't be an asset to the team and pick up some talent with the money we didn't spend today. Unlike the OP, I think we will make the playoffs, despite being in a huge transition year AND we have seen our young guys step up. This team is a few key pieces from being a legit Stanley Cup contender......Just my opinion.

I should have stated that he doesnt shy away from physical play...he's not soft, as you state. Leads all wingers on his team in shot blocking and has more hits than half of his team.

Perhaps I am the only one on here that thinks Pomminville would be great in a Wings jersey. He's not big ( 6 foot, 185) so a bit bigger than Z BUT plays a physical game, its a lowish cap hit and the dude is a "score first" winger. I think he would be great with either Dats or Z!

Which quite frankly, is a smart, smart, smart decision by Wings GM Ken Holland. Yes, Bouwmeester is the top-four D-man the Wings have been craving all year, but Detroit is not in a position organizationally to be trading first-round picks. They moved a first-round pick last year for Kyle Quincey when they still had Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart on the team and felt they had a shot to really contend. But now? Of course they still like their team if they get healthy and make the playoffs, but this is an organization that needs to re-stock and use its own first-round picks to actually draft players. They’ve been near the top of the standings for 20 years. It’s time to draft and develop again. There is no way Holland could have ever justified moving a first-rounder to Calgary. What if the Wings miss the playoffs? Even had they structured the deal like St. Louis by deferring the first-rounder to 2014, who’s to say what Detroit is going to look like next season if they miss the playoffs this season? That pick could be even more dangerous to give Calgary. My belief is that Detroit’s final offer on Bouwmeester was a second-round pick and two prospects. And frankly, that’s as far as the Wings could have gone.

I wouldnt be opposed IF we didnt have to give up much to get him. This is a great draft year so picks are valuable and I dont want to part with a prospect BUT I think Jagr could assist us with some of the offensive struggles we have had throughout the year. He is also a bit of a pr*ck...which comes in handy in the playoffs. I think they are going to have a firesale in Calgary with Iggy gone. I have a strange feeling that Holland would look at JBO if thats the case, given we have cap space. Who knows...with the lack of any acquistions over the last few years, it may not happen. After all, Boumeester is not over 35, a waiver pick-up, a "project" and has not played in Detroit before...which seems to be Hollands signing criteria!

Agreed. Flip was clearly injured at the start of the year and then had the injury. He has been playing awesome hockey and except the terrible giveaway against Calgary, he seems to be playing with a ton of passion, fire and intensity. Back to back goal games and a sweet pass last night to Z. Flip is a much more valuable player on this team than people think.....I hope he resigns and Detroit pays the guy what he's worth!

Give me a break. 8 of 12 ESPN hockey analyists had them ousted in the 1st round by Vancouver. They werent even favored when they ramrodded everyone to get to the SCF's as nhl.com has the Devils in 6. So the answer to my question is not last year.

Playoffs? When is the last time the BEST team ( on paper) won the cup? All we have to do is get it....and then we will see what happens....The boys can do that. Zetterberg's beard alone can win the Conn Smythe....that's why 16 teams play for the best trophy in sport. We are getting in! I believe!
