    NHL's magic number

Hi everyone, here is a little piece I wrote on the NHL's magic numbers: http://murdochshockeyblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/nhl-magic-number.html Would be interested to know what you all think are the most important numbers in the NHL?

Not a surprise here: https://twitter.com/kevin_mcgran/status/587285051055992832 Horachuk gone too. Mark Hunter in charge on interim basis, does Dale Hunter join as coach?

    Ouellet

I think that Oullet played well in his time with the wings. Marchenko shooting right definitely gives him a slight edge at this time. Going in to the playoffs I don't think we can go with 2 rookie defensmen.Would be good for Xavier to play some Calder Cup playoffs and be called up if required. If there is an injury to the D, he gets called upon before Kindl (and even Smith) for me.

I agree with you on this for two reasons: 1) The teams all want a decent crack at getting the top UFA coach 2) Any other UFA coach will want to you use Babcock as the yardstick for their own contract. Take Paul MacLean for example, he won't want to undersell himself and they will use Babcock's contract as a bargaining chip.

I can't see Babcock going to the Leafs, he'll got all manner of riches but I don't see the fit. I'm still hopeful that he stays with Wings but not 100% confident.

What's with the "giving players hamster names" obsession?

Allot of these nicknames come straight from the wings dressing room. I have a theory on these nicknames when Babcock (Babs) is doing his interviews. If he uses a nickname he likes the player and how they are playing, if he doesn't they are in the doghouse. The most common one is the alternate Weiss and 'Weisser'. I remember it took a long time before Smith became 'Smitty', it's true of most hockey coaches regardless of any league. It's a daft game I play when watching coaches being interviewed. Edit: grammar

    Pulkkinen sent back to GR

He does, so does Pulk I think. Hope they get another!

    Pulkkinen sent back to GR

I'm happy for him to go down to GR, I think the guys have a good chance at the Calder Cup (in fact a better chance than when they won it) so let him, Mrazek, XO, Sproul etc get some real playoff experience it's only going to help the big club.

Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Kenny's done a good job here. All in we've not given any real assets today and brought in some solid pieces to strengthen our team.

Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars

You're probably right, not keen on Petry so we maybe don't make any other moves.

Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars

I like this trade, Backman was done as soon as he left for Sweden. I'm a fan of Janmark but he's probably down the depth chart so it's more a pint. If we get a trade for a D today, we can really challenge!

All Purpose Grand Rapids Griffins Thread

I hope Janmark comes over, I watched him play on Monday, he got three primary assists on all his team's goals and led the team in shots was clearly the man of the match.

    Janmark-Nylen

Watched him on play on TV last night, his team won 4-3 on penalty shots. He had three primary assists. Looked really good. Looking forward to seeing him in GR.

    Dylan Larkin

Great goal and superb feeds for assists, this guy is dynamite!

Nabokov traded back to San Jose

Future considerations is usually dependent on something happening beyond the deal. A player can't be given up for nothing so I would imagine the deal is something like if Nabakov signs a new deal then San Jose would need to give something. He's retiring so I would imagine there's nothing going to be exchanged. An example of this would be when we got Draper for $1

    Great Brandon Prust Article

Great article, I'm not a fan of fighting but always good to gain an insight in the need for it in the eyes of the guys who make a living from it.

    Kyle Baun

Finalist for Hobey Baker, playing for Colgate University. I know that he attended Wings Prospect Camp in July last year. What are the chances of the guy playing in the Wings system next year?

Haha, we've not done too bad on the signing of college UFA recently!
  22. There are a few guys that circumvent through the dual nationality rules, but some of the bigger budget teams run with an extra import to cover for injuries. The players with Dual nationality fall in to two categories: nationalised to the UK ie not classed an import or other EU national, for example Derek Roehl of Braehead is dual with US (Michigan) and Italy. As an aside, Cardiff and Belfast are a unique model in that they have a GB starting netminder which allows them to have a stronger roster.
  23. It's a massive import league, not a league that develops British talent. Every team runs 3 line hockey and has an active roster of about 16/17 skaters and 2 netminders. Teams can have 12 foreign players on this roster, 11 full imports and 1player with an EU passport. As a result most teams go for North American players. The team i follow has 4 Americans, 7 Canadians, a Finn and 9 Scots. The Scots struggle for icetine and swap in and out with each other.
  24. Grimaldi is from US so you've maybe seen him play. Parent is French-Canadian, let me assure you there is no nobility in this league. I'm Scottish so you slag the English all you want but Joe Grimaldi is an American playing for a Scottish team so not sure the thread title works.

Winter Classic 2014 - Where are they now?

HI guys, don't very often start a new topic but been having a bit of fun watching the "Road to the Winter Classic 2014" this morning and put together this article on where the stars of the show are now. http://murdochshockeyblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/winter-classic-2014-where-are-they-now.html All for a bit of fun, a lot of you are much better at photoshop etc than me (I used MS paint) though we could all come up with some more of these type of screenshots.
