That's why Marchenko got called up earlier in te year, Babcock and Blashill talk almost every day and Blashill was saying that Marchenko was their best d-man. If his season wasn't over I'm sure he would have been called up.

Exactly! Gus is in awe when he plays with Datsyuk.

I think it has to be Kronner, Gus has been incredible and Z would have been MVP if he'd played the whole year, but of all the injuries we had this year, if we lost Kronner for a lengthy period no way we make the playoffs.

I think these lines are probably best, the way out roster is at the moment having Datsyuk and Nyquist on the same line makes the Chara matchup easy for Julien, by splitting them I think we have more chance of causing them trouble, also think babcock wants them to be kept separate so Gus doesn't feel he has to always give the puck to Pav.

I like this trade. Jarnkrok may develop in to a great player, but before the deadline I wanted make sure that come March 6th we still had Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, Sproul, Oullet, Mrazek, Mantha, Pullkinnen... I prefer these guys so it's not like we sold the family china. Eaves wasn't back in the summer, so effectively a pick and a prospect for a proven centre isn't a high price.

As he was over 35 when he signed the contract we would be on the hook for at least some of his salary. I think the full amount? So it's better for us (£100k better) if he reports to GR or as you suggested Toledo. If this is wrong then please correct me, I just got the hang of the old CBA lol.

@DarrenDreger: O'Brien and Samuelsson cleared Waivers. Am I right in thinking his options now would be to report to GR or retire?

Given that Cleary has been wearing an A during this last few weeks I'd be surprised if he gets waived, will have to wait for the off-season for that.

I think this is one of those threads where there isn't a discussion to be had, it was the right decision by Kenny.

I've been high on this guy since the draft, hope he can continue at the rate he could be a future star. I've always though that he would either eventually play in the wings top 6 or completely disappear.

His last contract he was a #4 dman now he's a #2 a one million raise for a guy that has stepped up his game over the last 3 years is more than reasonable.

I totally agree, possibly have that same bias toward Z. On a side note if Alfie continues in the form he's had with us so far he surely has to make the Olympic squad?

Gus just needs to bide his time, it's frustrating I know but Helm had to go down to GR in 09 after centering the fourth line in a Stanley cup winning team, he came up around the trade deadline and was instrumental in the next cup run. Do I think Gus will have that sort of impact? No, but if he plays hard everyday he'll be back up sooner rather than later and this time will definitely have benefitted him.

I'm honestly not to bothered at the moment re: his production, think the season is young and would rather question the production of some guys who know the systems ie guys who have no excuse. His contract isn't too bad, worst case scenario we can trade him away, granted not this year and we may have to retain some salary. I said this when Flip left and I'll say it again, we had to change something in roster. It didn't have to be Flip but he was UFA so it made sense, our lines needed a refresh, Weiss is a skilled player who is used to being a big(ish) fish in a small pond at Florida and probably finding it difficult to adjust to a team in a big market. I still have confidence that he will come good. In the meantime if Mule, Bert, Cleary, Sammy etc can step up our offence will be better in the long run for it.

Love it mate, I'm a fife flyers fan so great to see some old footage! I've heard a story of Babcock (must have been on NHL.com) that he and the other imports used to come to Edinburgh buy cars at the auctions and then sell them the way back for extra cash.

The only issue I have is shouldn't have been announced prior to preseason so they could have players could have gotten used to the change, I've only seen highlights of the games so if this was done then please ignore.
