I saw this thread earlier today and meant to respond. That is so cool, Munk! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, either. I am glad you got to meet Pasha. He's amongst the top players in my book, and has become my favorite this season on the Wings. Funny, skilled, smart -- he's got it all. Congrats!!

I'd hate to see the Wings anywhere but Detroit, and I don't see it happening. As bad as things are, I can see it getting worse before it gets better. A lot of franchises may have trouble surviving, but not Detroit. The fan base is too loyal, the owners are too savvy. They will hang in there, I think (hope). I think Lids had it right when he said he and the team were honored to be something that folks in Michigan can look to and really enjoy, when things are not so great in general. I live far away, but really do enjoy the Wings, even if I don't live in Detroit. Tradition rules. I dislike most teams south of the Mason Dixon, and think hockey belongs where it is cold. And the Red Wings belong in Detroit.

Agreed. Some people just can't resist, it seems, as they somehow believe they can make Ozzie look better by trashing Hasek. Go figure. Ozzie's getting older and I've thought all along he doesn't need to shoulder a Brodeur-like load to be successful. Conks is a great goalie, better than he's been given credit for here, but he's not the future. I like Miller, too, but so does Buffalo. I am sure he'd like to be a Wing, however. Doesn't everybody want to be a Red Wing? -

wondered when this would turn into Hasek-trashing thread. Predictable, yet non-objective. That's hockey (fans) or at least LGW, I guess. -
Sorry, Reem... but they won for you anyway! Proud of Meech, aren't you? Happy Birthday!!
-
I see your point. Sometimes the intangibles play a larger part in the team's energy overall than one might think.
-
Offense doesn't really seem to be a problem as they generally seem to muster enough to win -- though I agree I enjoy watching Pavs and Zata together.
-
Three stars: 1. Hudler 2. Lids 3. Meech
-
yay, the clock ran out in time. Wings win, 6-5
-
one goal lead. If they tie this...
-
two goal lead now. if there is a Sedin on the ice, there is usually reason to worry. They are pretty good at scoring vs the Wings, for some reason. We need Fisch to put one through the glass again.
-
neither does Sammy. OK, now we only have a two goal lead.
-
offense to the rescue!! Wow. Clears is back, baybee!! 6-3 Wings
-
or not. 5-3, courtesy of Lids. Congrats to Meechie on his first NHL goal!!
-
Mr. Meech! With the GWG, me thinks.
-
atta way, Lids, show 'em how it's done. 3-3
-
which one?
-
I feel bad about this, but I no longer get all that excited when the Wings have a 5v3.

oh, you have NO idea how much I need it. Required in order for me to live. TPBM drives a foreign car.

Whatever the impact of Avery's comments, his teammates didn't seem to miss him at all. In fact they just played the best game I've seen them play all season, as if to show that his comments are no reflection on their team. Turco was stellar. 3-1 win (EN), with Fabian Brunnstrom's GWG goal courtesy of a brainfart from none other than Phaneuf. Avery was more help to his team off the ice indefinitely than he would have been suited up, apparently.
-
I think you're right about this. The Dallas announcers just said the same, basically, during the intermission. They said if Avery had wanted to say such things, he should have done it on the ice, and things would have sorted themselves out - which is why he didn't say it to Dion's face, most likely. Maybe instead of suspending Avery, they should have made him play tonight.
-
that was a disgusting thing to say, although I don't doubt there are worse pronouncements made daily by players on every team. Most have the common sense and decency to not make a media event out of them, however. Stars are already suffering the loss of three key players to serious injury (Ott, Morrow, and Joel Lundqvist), and didn't really need one of their players drawing attention in this manner. As Hicks was quoted today, if the NHL hadn't suspended Avery, the Stars would have. If Avery was making an ill-advised comment in order to rattle the Flames (Phaneuf in particular), it might be working. Stars are ahead by a goal, 2-1, end of the second.

Several of them. Actually, the way things are going, I might have more money than most people I know -- in my loose change jars. On a derivative note, the person below is driven crazy (as am I) by people who don't know the difference between the words "loose" and "lose." Hallelujahlogic is obviously amongst those who do know. Loose = not tight Lose = not win. ack.

atta boy, Hoss! Glad we got out of this one with two points. Whew~
