NHL Network: Top 10 Goalies of ALL TIME

don't worry about it, he dismisses Hasek's 2002 playoffs, as well. He just set a shut out record which had stood for decades, and was a key to turning the tide in round one, was stellar in the WCF, and played great in the triple OT vs. Carolina, to name a couple of instances which were integral in the win. We won't go into the fact that the Wings couldn't get out of round one after 2002... until Hasek came back. But yeah, Dom had no impact in Detroit. This really is stupid. There are those who will never appreciate Hasek, no matter what information is put in front of them. And I assume many who don't get the Dominator never saw Dom play in Buffalo.

Brodeur has always believed his own press. It's a failing on his part. Oh, well. Regarding Dom, it never fails to amaze me how hard people work to convince themselves and others that a player who was clearly revolutionary and stellar in his NHL and international career ... was actually terrible. Just amazing, not to mention ridiculous. No worries, though, discussing it doesn't change the record books or the truth.

Brodeur was on the bench in Nagano. And I don't need your forgiveness, believe me. ''The man is the best,'' Brodeur said after Hasek led his native Czech Republic to the gold medal in the Olympics last February. ''They don't come any better than him.'' QFT.

undoubtedly so. He had to wait for Hasek to retire to ever sniff a Vezina. PS - for the stuff of nightmares, Marty has only to dwell for a moment on the Nagano Olympics . Dream on... which is not to say I think Brodie is chopped liver of course. I am quite certain Dom and Marty respect one another as peers. Hasek V. Brodeur

See avatar for my opinion. For those who insist on complaining (still) about having Hasek as a Red Wing, be happy now. He's got the message and he's gone. Done and done. To everyone in this thread who did such a good job of listing Dom's amazing contributions and accomplishments, thanks! There's no point in comparing Dom to any other goalie. The rest of the active goalies in this league can only dream of having a career even close to Hasek's.

I bet you can do it. But as long as you're comfortable with your weight, no matter where you are, that's all that matters. Just be careful with those wedding cake tastings... they can sneak up on you! j/k, congratulations on your impending nuptuals!! I know what you mean about the workload thingie, I am swamped lately, too. My office is literally a minute or so from my little gym. Some days, I force myself to go, and usually am glad I did. I feel like I have done something good for myself, you know? I am with you, I wouldn't be happy about fighting the crowds either. I avoid the big franchise gyms, with their loud music and self-absorbed patrons, male and female. My gym is very basic and very small, sort of the "Cheers" of neighborhood gyms. I credit them with a lot of my success, 18 pounds gone since July 7th. Of course, I still have to do all the work, but if I didn't have the friendly environment and encouragement from the staff at Gym One in Austin, I don't think I would have been this successful.

does osgood have it yet another season?

If he stays healthy, he'll be fine.

    Selänne will play another season

Selanne is one of my all-time favorite players. Good for him, if he wants to play. It will just be for fun, if he goes back to the Ducks. I feel sure no one in this forum is surprised by the way Burke has "managed" the team in Anaheim. We you, Kenny.

Hašek looks to return (that didn't take long)

of course! I would love to see Dom kick butt in the Czech league or KHL. Either would be lucky to get him in any capacity, he's still capable of playing at an elite level.

Hašek looks to return (that didn't take long)

Dom has said that he is done with the NHL but not done with the business of hockey. Take from that statement whatever you wish. Personally, I believe he can still play and would have been fine in the playoffs if he had gotten another chance. No one needs to lose any sleep over Hasek coming back here. If circumstances warranted such a move, the Red Wings could certainly do a lot worse than Hasek in the nets again. * It's Pardubice, by the way. And no, I have no interest in going there.

    Stu Barnes Retires

agreed, he will be missed on the team, but at least he's sticking around. I was a big fan of his in Buffalo and saw the same even, solid, work-ethic with the Stars. Good man, Stu!
  14. The Red Wings organization always does the right thing. Simple as that. They make the right decisions at the right time, and they treat their players with respect and dignity, no matter what. Even the stumbles -- and they are infrequent -- are always made right in the end. The players feel secure, as much as is possible in today's market, and the coaches personify respect and good judgment, on and off the ice. This is not to say that other teams don't try just as hard and have just as good a relationship between players/owners. It's just that I think Detroit does this better than any other club.

I am planning to go Sept. 5-8, Jack. I'll be at Dave and Joyce's (the folks we sat with at the Wings-Stars game). I'll PM you with my cell number. We'll be over in Garland mostly and Dallas proper, but we might meet ya in the middle, as it were. I will be without wheels, thanks to The Company Plane SWA, but call me anyway, OK?

Charity Hockey Game in Pardubice CZ

charity hockey game August 17 EXHIBITION: Some of the world’s hockey legends will likely be seen at a charity exhibition game to be played Aug. 17, 2008, in Pardubice, east Bohemia. Among the all-time stars should be Czech players Jaromír Jágr and Dominik Hašek, Canada’s Steve Yzerman and Mark Messier, Finland’s Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu, and Russia’s Slava Fetisov and Igor Larionov. That's all I have been able to find on this game, so far. Pardubice is Dom's home town, so I bet he's had a hand in organizing it, as he has charity events like this in Prague and elsewhere over the years. Party at Hasek's house!!! I will let you know if I find anything else on this game, or if you guys find something, please post.... boy, would I love to be there.

Sammy, Lilja, Ericsson, Ritola spend time with the cup.

Swedish rock bands are notorious for being ... odd, shall we say? That outfit with the keyhole cutouts is straight from the '80s disco scene. I don't blame Mule for looking a bit nervous.

I used to do that, too, when I lost 83 pounds 15 years ago. I was much younger then, obviously. But I would be soooo good all week, working out, diet police on patrol, etc. Then on the weekends, I would have a marguerita and chips like everyone else. It didn't make any difference at all in the long run... aside from the fact that I had fun on the weekends, when I might not have if I worried about the extra calories. I wouldn't be too concerned about the weekend messing with your program, zettermaberg. You sound like you have all the loopholes covered with your healthy food options. Have a great time!!

Can I come camping wif you? I understand. My best friend (and eating buddy) is coming for the weekend. She will be cool with veggies and fat-free dip, rather than our usual cheese and crackers and other snacks, though. She loves wine. I can do without it, but might have a little glass to keep her company. When I go to Dallas in a couple of weekends is when I am in trouble. I love the friends I am visiting, but they do tend to pig out and I used to go along with it. Portion control is my friend! Not gonna ruin the fun, but I do expect to "pay" for the weekend with extra work at the gym the next week. Oh, well... gotta live our lives, right? Have fun this weekend!!!

    Lord Stanley's Summer Tour 2008

Mule's day with the Cup he had to excuse himself from the party at 1AM, because he was leaving on vacation in Greece the next day. Nice!!

14 pounds by December? Easy-squeezy, Edi!! I agree on the sweat thingie. I know a workout was good when I am dripping wet at the end of it. The owner of my little gym walked past me the other day when I was slaving away on the stairmill (i.e., the machine from Hell!!!), and gave me a thumbs up. "Great sweating!!" he pronounced. I was unaware that one could do that with degrees of excellence, but OK! heh~ Working out is great, but certainly destroys any illusion anyone ever had of me (unlikely) as a fragile flower. I am sweat-pig, and there's nothing dainty about it. But it works, if you really put the effort in. My un-favorite exercise of the week: the plank. That's the yogalike one, where you think you're gonna die. Try it. this... ack! My newest fun thing: kettlebell for deadlifts and other strength-training work. They're so cute! kbs

Anybody else still working out? Six times a week at the gym, alternating cardio and weight training + a very healthy diet, no snacks, no splurges and no alcohol = 18 pounds lost as of today. Not done yet, but getting stronger every session! I *heart* my little neighborhood gym, and especially my trainer -- an angel in running shoes.

Congratulations! I am proud of you! Now you know if you really put your mind (and body) to it, you can do it! Soda is the devil, you are correct. My new beverage may not be all that much better, but I love Lipton Green Tea with Citrus. I drink the 'diet' version, which has aspartame in it, but not a lot. I am down 15 pounds as of today (since July 7th). I did 128 floors on the stairmaster last night, but didn't get to put my name on the tote board at the gym. I am too slow... Oh, well, I get there eventually. What a sweat-machine that thing is. LOL~
