Freddie had to have a liver transplant in July, 2007. I found this in Snapshots (George Malik's blog on mlive): July 15, 2007: Aftonbladet (translated via Systran): Olausson has got a new liver: Ice hockey legend Fredrik Olausson, 40, has got a new liver. He is [home] from the hospital and feels after the circumstances OK. "The transplant took six hours, and now [focus] I on becoming entirely [healthy]," says Fredrik via his agent Joakim Persson. ... Fredrik [did] not have the energy to speak with the meda about transplantation and chooses to let the agent Joakim Persson to deal with all statements. Gets care in the home: The operation took six hours. An evidence on that the each lyckosam. n common cases, a liver transplant takes 10-14 hours to implement. July 5, Fredrik became Olausson [discharged] from Huddinge university hospitals. He became then inscribed on the hospital in Jonkoping. Since last Wednesday gets Fredrik care in his homes in Jonkoping. The comes to dwell hugely long time to Fredrik feels really good again, says Joakim Persson. Fredrik is not [completely healthy] and with even intervals [travels] he to Jonkoping's hospital in order to submit samples and to examine how the body takes towards the new liver. No comeback as hockey players is of course current. Fredrik Olausson bigest struggle acts now about can to live as a person - with a new liver. ** I haven't been able to find anything else more recent. Hope Freddie is doing well. He was a real bright spot on the already shiny 2002 roster.

I think Patty was probably scared to go home, if he caught that look on his wife's face on the jumbotron. Funniest moment of the series, aside from when Patty dropped the puck in his own net. Or maybe it was when he got shelled and chased in the 7-0 blowout. It's so hard to choose.

So, wonder how many games NHL Network is stealing from Center Ice this season? I will wait to see how bad it's going to be before I throw big bucks at CI again, since we don't get NHLN here.

I loved Freddie O. And Hasek with the assist on the GWG. 2002 team was simply awesome, beginning to end. Thanks!

This made my day! Now, get Cheli and Mac signed and make the rest of my week, Kenny.

yay, Edi... you da man!! I am kinda stuck at my 12 pound loss plateau for the last three days, but I lost it pretty fast (in two weeks), so I assume if I stick to my program more will come off. 26 pound gain was the result of taking the wrong prescription medicine (nightmare). On new meds, I'm a happy girl again! I *heart* my little neighborhood gym. I feel like I am doing something right for myself every time I walk in. It's the "Cheers" gym of Austin -- everyone says hi, and we know each others' names. It's nice. Never thought I would like lifting weights, but I do. Maybe it's because I have a good teacher/trainer who won't let me hurt myself by doing too much, too fast. Brag: I did 100 floors on the stairmill last night. No wonder I can't walk today. Maybe I will do elliptical and row tonight, just for a break. PS - all that food sounds sooooo good, Edi! I have been so careful with my diet, good thing I like veggies and brown rice and salad, eh? But almond chicken can't be that bad. Maybe this weekend, I will splurge. Yum. edit: spelling

He gets it today, I believe.

Atta boy, jump back in there! I am proud of you for making the commitment. Take it easy today. Do 20 minutes of cardio (elliptical, bike, treadmill) to get warmed up. Keep the exercises simple, and choose a routine where everything gets a little treatment. If you work with free weights, do your normal exercises, but put the weight down a notch or two from where you left off. Don't forget abs! My favorite is the back extension bench, for an all over workout that won't kill ya first time back. Go get 'em, LDi03!!
-
that's SO cool!! I do the same exercise with my trainer, but this neato setup can be done alone (hence the solo part... duh). If you all have an exercise partner or trainer, you do this situp with a medicine ball by sitting facing one another and then tossing the ball to your partner as you sit up, catch it as you lay down. We probably won't get one of these absolos, so I will just have to do them the other way, I reckon.
-
LDi03, how are things going? Check in and let us know. My newest love-hate relationship is with this: Looks innocent, doesn't it? Not. I did 30 minutes on this device from the dark side today. Basically, it's an endless staircase which has no "landings" where you could stop and catch your breath like with a real staircase. You just sweat to death and climb, climb, climb. I climbed the equivalent of 100 floors. Me = Some older gent came over and got on the machine next to me... I showed him how to set up a program and told him to do level 1 and try for 10 minutes -- which is a long time, if you have never done the stepmill. He lasted about three minutes, bless his heart. It only looks like fun. Love/hate my stepmill!!!

It certainly crossed my mind, given the circumstances. I think he'll play for the Wings, if they offer him anything at all.

After 'hiding from everybody,' Emery tries to right ship
puckloo39 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Emery's a good goalie. Everyone makes mistakes and those who learn from them usually come up stronger for the experience. If he sincerely means to turn himself around and reinvent his career, I bet some team is going to give him a chance, and be very happy about their decision. Best of luck, Ray!! -
The single best decision I made in my quest to get and stay fit was hiring a personal trainer to teach me how to work with free weights and do strength training. It's money I don't have right now, but the alternative -- doing nothing to help myself -- was far more costly, in ways which don't show in the old bank account. Besides, the money which goes to him is money I can't spend in the grocery store. Another idea, if your job and circumstances permit, is making food ahead of time and carrying your lunch. Not only is it a money-saver, you can control the amount and quality of what you are eating. Good luck, and come back and tell us how it's going!

Good job, Jack!! Ditto, me! Love the EFX. Hate the StairMill but do it anyway. It is my idea of a torture device, so it must be good for ya, right? It's so freakin' hot here, you really can't go outside. I miss the trail, but even I draw the line at 105 degrees. As for the cereal discussion, I cut out my evening treat of cereal and fruit, when I realized my healthy dessert wasn't, so much. rats.

Good. We should all eat food, not a substitute. I don't see how anyone can live their life on something you have to order online or go to a health food store to buy. It's literally just not natural. Some supplements are good for you, if your diet is deficient, but those weight loss things on TV... I don't believe any of them actually work. Hoodia, hydroxycut, etc. I notice they all say that without diet and exercise, the product won't work. Well, duh. Could it be the diet and exercise would have helped, without spending hundreds of dollars over time to buy their product? You're doing fine, it sounds like to me. You, too, Munk. Sorry about your injury, but maybe you can manage to so some weights or something that doesn't test your sore foot?

my hero! I can do lots of stuff, DKM, but I'm a woman, alone with this house. I think I would wind up with a hole in the wall of my house, and have to pay someone even more to fix it. What's a catspaw, aside from the obvious (a paw attached to a kittycat). On the weather front here in "New Iraq" (Austin), there's a tropical storm headed for Louisiana coast which maybe, sometimes, means rain for us. Bulls***, I say. It's not going to rain again here. Maybe in November or December, if we're lucky. Thank goodness for my little gym, the one with air conditioning. I was watching some guys this weekend out there in the black asphalt parking lot, doing some ironman thing where they had truck tires harnessed to chains, and they were pulling them across the lot... in the blazing sun. Retarded. Sorry, there's something wrong with them! Then, I glanced back out, and they had attached the chain to the pickup truck with the big tires in it, and were pulling to around the parking lot! Wow. OK, then...

I made the turkey burgers, or rather, I made them into meatballs and baked them. I have a grill, but it's 106 degrees outside here. I could just set them outside and they would grill themselves, I guess. Here's a variation of turkey meat patties or meatballs. Italian turkey meatballs 1 pound ground turkey 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 tablespoon dried dry parsley (or 1/4 cup fresh) 1/2 tsp dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried minced onion (optional, but I always add it) 1/2 cup fine bread crumbs 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese 1 egg dash of salt and pepper Mix together and shape into 1 1/2 inch meatballs. Bake at 400 degrees, until they are brown and no longer pink in the middle. You can also fry them in a skillet with a little olive oil, if you prefer. I make these to take to work for lunch. Salad and meatballs as an entree... yum! Hope you all like them, too!

you're probably only half-serious, there, but there seems to be something to this at times. I've noticed in other players that marriage can derail them a bit, at least for a while. Let's hope Hank is not the distractable type. Best wishes to the happy couple, of course.
-
now, you make some good points. I am thinking that guys play longer now, simply because physical conditioning allows it... more players are still iron men in their 40's than was the case 20 years ago. Not such a bad 'dilemma' but an issue, just the same. Hopefully, the Wings will come to an agreement with Cheli which is mutually satisfactory. Not sure about the players with contracts/not deserved part -- but watching the Bret Favre situation is painful, and I don't even care about football. If we were retaining a player who couldn't contribute and who was a boat anchor, which I do not believe would be the case with Cheli, that would be bad. Again, I don't believe he would be a detriment, if placed in the right role. I trust Cheli and Babs to handle that. Cheli would never put the Wings in the position Favre has put Green Bay. I like the fact that Detroit is loyal to its players. I also like the fact that the Wings management finds a way to make a place for any player who has contributed as much as Cheli (or Stevie or Fisch or Dom) has to the success of this team. I firmly believe that whatever decision Kenny and Co. make about Cheli will be the correct one, and will bring no harm to the team. Take that to the bank.
-
I don't agree with a single thought here, and that's not what I said. Cheli wouldn't be a charity case, he would be a wily veteran. You can't buy experience. He wouldn't be keeping the kids out, he would play when needed, and Babcock would decide when that would be. He's already said he understands his role. Loyalty is not over-rated, but it certainly isn't what it used to be. It's men like Chris Chelios who bring character to the game and who draw some fans (like me) to games. Too bad hockey is starting to look like corporate world ... kick the veterans to the curb and bring in the replacements, younger and cheaper. Thank goodness the Red Wings understand the intangibles!
-
Re-sign Cheli for less money, let him play when he's needed (he clearly understands the situation), and let him leave the league on his own terms, as a Red Wing. It's the right thing to do, and he deserves it. And we deserve one last season with one of the best defensemen in the game.

Gretzky's and Montana's sons both attend Oaks Christian HS in California, cited as a "football powerhouse." Gretzky's kid, Trevor, and Nick Montana are both quarterbacks, what else? Will Smith's kid, Trey, is a receiver. Nick Montana sounds like he's going to be formidible, at least physically. And I had no idea Will Smith had a son old enough to be in HS. fun little read, this. link

thanks!! I am much encouraged, with the new meds and all. My trainer thinks I am much more capable than I probably really am, but he knows to give me a challenge. I am a bit competitive, even if it is only with myself. I have gone from lifting 10 pound dumbells, 2 sets of 10, to 20 pounders 3 sets of 15 in three weeks. I can tell my balance and coordination is much better in less than a month. I am stoked. Like Jack, I don't want my gym routine to be a chore, nor do I want to get obsessed with it -- although that is my tendency. My trainer makes me take a day off (Friday) with no wieghts and no aerobics. But, also like Jack, I take that day to go home after work and mow the lawn, wash the car, clean the house, and do all sorts of chores outside in the 100 degree heat. I count that as a workout (and usually add a 3 mile walk to it, for good measure). I asked said trainer if all those chores and sweating and labor counted as a work-out. He responded: "well, it counts as work." Turkey burgers.... good idea. I am making my grocery list for next week. Might have to try some of that!

This makes me sad. We will miss you, Scotty, thanks for the Cups and the memories. I don't blame him for wanting to work with his son. It's not like Scotty's never coached or worked anywhere else, but I suppose I sort of regarded him as "ours" and thought he would retire 'a Red Wing." I have a hard time letting go of anyone who's been associated with this team. We still have plenty of brains with a "t" in Kenny, Stevie, Jim Nill and others in the front office and organization. It's just harder to replace savvy and knowledge like Scotty's. Oh, well... best of luck, Scotty!
