aww...be nice! I find him very endearing, in a D-Mac sort of way. Besides, he's a hell of a hockey player.
-
you need shades to hang around this guy... Hart Memorial Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award, Art Ross Trophy and the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy -- that is some haul, there, Ovie. Amazing...
-
my thought, as well. Shame. But then again, it is the All Star Game.
-
Nabokov is not Canadian. YAY OVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
should have gone to Nabby... too bad.
-
that's wonderful... Gordie. Yet another Red Wing, hauling home the hardware.
-
Ozzie interview in Freep this may have been posted elsewhere, but is full of little nuggets from Ozzie on how he got where he is today with the Wings and in the NHL.

You're a very special person, to do what you did for your beloved Grammie. She is your angel now, dear, always. My best friend, and "extra" mom as I call her, is 90 and recently diagnosed with cancer, so I treasure every day with her even more. She and your grammie sound very similar in spirit! You always have friends here, you know. Take care of yourself and enjoy life, she would want you to.

Barry Melrose is busy, so I am not sure about LA having anything resembling a decent season.
-
that's one way to put it. It was pretty bad. But it's the venue... dumb show, dumb segment. Poor guys, I was hoping they would get two minutes and a couple of actual questions. Oh, well.... Justin Timberlake is getting lots of air time.
-
they should have brought Huddie along... he would have gotten the party started.
-
It's hard to make Nick Lidstrom look lame. Pretty bad stuff. But a nice treat for the Wings fans in the audience.
-
Leno's on right now here, and the local NBC news showed a lead-up with Ozzie and Lids standing there with Jay and Sheryl Crow and Justin. They (Lids and Oz) looked very uncomfortable. I would think Colbert or Carson Daly, either one, would be more fun.

Red Wings and Babcock agree to three year contract
puckloo39 replied to PRStoetzer's topic in General
Great news... now Babs needs to win the Jack Adams on Thursday. He probably won't, but he should. He gets my vote for best coach in the NHL, hands down. -
this thread can suffice as an appreciation thread, right? Nice short article by Kevin Allen, who makes a good point. I couldn't agree more that Dom was an artist at his trade. There's Dom... and there's all the rest as far as some of us are concerned. When Detroit Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek retired Monday, the NHL lost the last goaltender willing to color outside the lines. He was an artist at a position where stars today seem more robotic than creative. Today's goaltenders are about technique, body angles and making their equipment as big as it can be. Unorthodox Hasek was about reading the play, trusting his instincts and keeping everyone guessing about what he might do next. Every game Hasek played in his 16 NHL seasons was a work of art, and many of them were masterpieces. I think it's interesting that Dom's career is bracketed by goalie styles which are more precise and mechanical than they are creative. I guess it's was his time and now, it's not. He knew, I believe. someone please make me a list of "available" coaches... I am too lazy. As long as Mike Babcock remains behind the Wings, I am pleased.

bishop design website hi, click on the 2006-2007 collection, Dom's helmet. I have more at home, but this is a start. edit:

this topic already fell off the front page, but some might be interested in a couple of articles from Buffalo News today, where they knew Dom at his best. You know the old saying, "You don't know what you've got, til it's gone."? I think, in Dom's case, most hockey fans DID know. We must move on, though. Dom has, and it was the right thing for everyone. To the end, he was thinking of the team and his family... and did was was best for both. Domination Dom said it all vs. Devils

as perhaps the most devoted Dom fan ever, I would say that Drew is off-base to suggest that Dom's number be retired in Detroit. Maybe give it a little rest for a while, with respect to Dom's contributions to the two Cup wins... #39 should hang in the rafters in Buffalo, that is where Dom was the backbone and franchise player who put that team on the radar every year of his near-decade of playing there. Nick's number is the only one I can see being retired in Detroit, when the time comes.

A few pics from the presser this morning: a light moment, Dom and that cell phone... Holland was reportedly sad, tears in his eyes as he addressed the crowd: Some of Dom's team mates who came to support him today: Friends on and off the ice, Dom and Cheli: Dom's patient wife, Alena, and their children, Dominika (13) and Michael (18). Michael is remaining in Michigan and will attend Michigan State in the Fall. Dom, Alena and Dominika will return to Czech Republic in the next few days. Dom with the Cup. One of a kind player, and the last of his era. He changed the game, forever. Godspeed, Dominik... you will be missed:

God love him... everyone else turns off their cell phone, except Dom. Even in his departure, he's still Dom. This was a nice send-off and nice thoughts from a true team player and a man of integrity. He knows he doesn't have the juice to win it all for his team, so he's stepping away with dignity. He was lucky to resurrect his career more than once, and the Wings were incredibly lucky to have had one of the greatest -- I believe, the greatest -- goalie of his era in a winged wheel. His teammates all showing up for his sendoff says a lot, too, I think. Class move from a classy group of guys, as usual. For an incredibly private person like Dom to get up there and express his love and appreciation for his beloved family and his love for his team mates.... I am a puddle here. It would be difficult for me to name another human being (whom I will never really know) more than I love this man. There will never be another like him, and I have loved every second, every high and every low, for the last 16 years. God bless and best of everything to my Dominator. Simply the best.

I had heard earlier in the season that Dom/family would probably be sticking around the area, since Michael is going to university in Ann Arbor in the Fall. I would love to see him have some role working with goalie development, or something with the Wings. Dom had a great season with his sexy tandem partner, Ozzie, and I have little doubt, he treasures the time he's spent in Detroit. I am glad to see him go on his own terms, with a smile on his face. It's very fitting that he goes out with the same class as the organization he loved played for, the Detroit Red Wings.
-
No chance of that, Marcus. Remember, I have some experience with Dom retirements. I think perhaps he may really mean it this time, though. Way to go out a champion (again) Dom! It's time his family got to have some time with him. I think Dom may have finally gotten to the place this season, where he can accept that it's time to relax and enjoy the accolades for his accomplishments in the NHL. Dom's changed the way the game was played in his era, and there will never be another one like him in the NHL. One of a kind, my spectacular goalie!

I hope some of the posters in this forum will try to refrain from turning this, of all things, into a bashing thread. Just once, put a lid on it. Have a little respect, if you know how.

I don't have to say much, do I? He's my hero, and always will be. I love the Red Wings organization for recognizing his contributions and treating him with such respect. He's more than earned it. If Dom is content, then so am I. It's all I ever wanted for him.
