I understand. I actually respect your opinion, rw, unlike an earlier poster (poser) here who has been telling me for ages that he's a better goalie than Hasek will ever be. What do you do with that? *smiles, nods agreeably, and backs away slowly* I put them on ignore, too. Dom did his best with what he had to work with. If he lacks confidence, I know why, even if most here don't understand it. When the team fails Ozzie, it will be a different tune entirely, but hopefully, they've learned and won't do that to him, too. If anyone doubts that Osgood could never let in goals under the same circumstances that Dom faced... I won't remind you of similar games where he did, in the regular season. It's really not necessary to make new threads to make sure everyone is aware that Ozzie is king of the world (goal crease, anyway). WE. GET. IT. ALREADY. Done and done.

you may want to go back and examine why those goals happened aside from just Dom's play. If Hasek's lost confidence, there is a reason (or several of them). Poor Wings, they were so distressed over Hasek's failure, they were unable to figure out that they needed to tighten the defense and clear the crease.... kind of like they did in Game 5? Poor babies..... wah. The team will play for Ozzie. That's a fact, if you base it on one game, the last one.... Since the aim is to win, clearly Ozzie should be in goal. The team might still play for Hasek as well, who knows? Just trying to provide a little ballast to counter the masses of fans who've jumped ship on Hasek. He won the first two games without a lot of help, but that's a distant memory now. Like Hasek, I can't do it alone, though. So back to your brand of logic. I will stick with mine: the TEAM wins a game, or loses. Not the goalie. It's just easier to blame one guy than to look at the actual situation.

Osgood won game 5 with a decent effort in front of him. Hasek would have, too.

there's nothing wrong with Ellis and no reason to hate him. In fact, I am shocked that half of this forum isn't clamoring for Kenny to sign him. The Wings could go a long way toward making him look human, if they would finish their chances and not just fling rubber at the net. Not Ellis' problem they make him look so good. The Wing can make any goalie look good. Sometimes, they even make their own goalies look good.

I think the Preds will stay with Ellis. j/k

Hopefully, the Wings worked on the power play and finishing all those scoring chances so they don't spend the afternoon beating Ellis half to death with 40 or 50 "oh, no, almost, OMG, what a chance!!! dammit, he missed!!!" SOG. Game 5 featured: tight defense which limited Nashville's scoring opportunities (ex: 16 SOG in regulation vs 15 SOG in the first period in GM 2), great positioning by the players, so no deflected goals on our goalie -- which was a nice change, no odd man rushes, no 2 on 1 breakaways, no turnovers which created chances for Nashville, and the Wings cleared the puck from in front of the crease. It was like a different team showed up, and thank goodness. Except for the fact that they couldn't bury the chances, that was a Red Wings effort. If they play the same game today they played on Friday, we finish Nashville today. If they play like they did in previous games, I'm not so certain about that. NBC and CI both show the game on the schedule, no pre-emption listed, but that doesn't mean anything, I guess. We shall see! Yep. We shall see.

You saw last night how good this team can make any goalie when they show up. They did for Ozzie, so I would say the signs are pretty clear... even if he loses one, I would leave him. The team will know it wasn't Ozzie who was at fault, and will play better for him next time.

There's no such thing as an "easy" shut out in the NHL. I've heard this rationale many times, so it's not aimed at Ozzie alone.
