I don't know if adding Mac will bring us a Cup... but I do think he would contribute more than Drake (sorry...) and he does know how to win. He would bring the desire and show the young ones how it's done. He could be Downey's sidekick -- assistant *** kicker? What a story, if he make it back this season and the Wings win it all. I love a good hockey story.

Besides Sakic and Hejduk, there's not much in Denver to even care about. Nothing to hate there, the Avs no match for the Wings when everyone is healthy. As for Lapierre, his actions don't represent the team, at least not in my opinion. He's alone in his intention to run Lids, if that's what he meant to do. Stupid hit, but maybe not with intent to injure - that was the result, however, and I am glad Downey made a statement for more than one reason. I expect that every member of the Avs team has nothing but respect for Lidstrom. Now, Pronger I can hate, and his team by association. He intended to take Homer out last playoffs. He's a dead man to me. They approved and so the Ducks are dead, too. Lapierre's just lucky Wings don't play the Avs again this season.

I know you would have, Opie. Damn, Dom IS lucky to have such fans, isn't he? So's Ozzie. It's a good thing they probably don't actually care what we think. They know who they are and what they contribute, and so do the Wings themselves.

Nice post, Opie. Good luck with that, when you're trying to get through to biased fans. I have made this exact same argument for that other Wings' goalie when he supposedly gets "easy" shutouts and his contributions are dismissed... just substitute the other goalie's name for Ozzie's and you have almost my exact words, more than once this season. You're right, of course, about all of it. Welcome to my world.

I was a bit surprised to see Nick get nailed like that, and was trying to remember the last time he got hit, even. He's usually so smooth and tends to ghost out of the way whenever anyone takes a run at him. Goes to show you just how deliberate it was on Lapierre's part, to try and take out the Red Wings' heart. Pronger-ish, IMO. Anyway, it looks like Nick won't be out too long, and I was proud of the guys for stepping up and playing well in his absence last night. Cheli's amazing, by the way.

I think the OP is being a leetle bit sarcastic. Anyone who said trade Ozzie was just trying to start something. Imagine that, in here? It's not outrageous to say Ozzie had a good bounce-back game last night, the D were back where they belonged and did a great job limiting the chances. Too lazy to look, but I think the Avs had 2 shots in the second period? The Wings' offense showed up, halleluia!! I can stop checking the sides of the milk carton for them now. It's so much harder to win when your skaters only score one for you, or none... so thanks, guys! The Avs game wasn't much of a test for Ozzie, truth be told. Still, it was timely, and a good one for him to pick up his play and make a difference. He made a couple of really nice saves and played well. So did the team, for a change. Eighteen saves total, solid D, plus a four goal lead is very helpful in a win and equates to an "easy" night for any goalie... at least that's the opinion I see in here all the time when that other Red Wings goalie is out there.

two questions... when was the last time the Wings managed to find 4 goals in a game? Instead of 2 or none? why did it take Nick getting mugged to bring them back? Or maybe it's just that they get to stomp Theodore? Whatever it takes. It's a lot harder to lose with a 4 goal lead. edit: that turned into four questions.

I am not usually a big proponent of fighting, since in my experience, the guys on our team tend to just hurt their hands... but the way the Wings get kicked around and no one holds the other teams responsible, really gets on my nerves. It also makes vulnerable players like our goalies open season, since the opponents know no one on the ice will make them account for themselves. I miss Shanny and Mac right about now. Mac would have wiped the ice up with somebody by now. Downey at least tried to step up, not that it makes it all OK. Nick...

really? OK! Someone teaching LaPierre and the rest of the Avs that they don't get to do this to Nick... I will settle for an a** whooping, but any kind of whooping will do. Keith is right... the Wings CANNOT lose this game. Win it for Nick! Ozzie's been solid... so good to see!
