-
that's for Nick, and Ozzie!
-
what do we have to do to get a call??? Hang in there, Ozzie!!
-
Oh my god... they've hurt Nick. Kill them WINGS!!!! dammit...
-
Smythe in the box, slashing on Dats. How 'bout a PP goal, boyz!??
-
iiiittt'ssss juuuuuusssttt yyooouuuuu..... hehehe~ They're more with it so far in a minute and a half than I've seen 'em in a while. The night is young, however.

On the brighter side, at least we've all stopped blaming the refs... Well, pretty much, anyway.

Normally, I wouldn't even be worried, but the whole team's been so out of sorts.... I just hope the better effort yesterday gave them a little boost in the right direction. A couple of better bounces and a goalpost or so and they would have won yesterday. Let's hope the scoring line (whichever one that is now) shows up. Tired of one or two goals per game, here.

versus online guys, I won't swear this will work, but try it when the game is ready to start. I don't want you to be disappointed, I've never tried this site before, but I have my fingers crossed for you.

Oh, no... I am so sad for his family and teammates. Blessings on them all, in this awful time.

Not totally surprised. Petey was a great player (much as I hated him once). I am glad he decided to not take some team's money, just to wind up back on the shelf within a couple of games. Since he isn't coming to Detroit, I am glad he isn't going anywhere else -- just in case he managed to stay healthy.

Meanie! Ozzie will bounce back tonight, you watch and see! Now if the _efense is available (missing D), and the bounces go our way instead of the way they did yesterday (so close!), we will get back on track at Colorado's expense. Go, Kopay! Show 'em all you can bury the that puck. Poor guy...

Of course, they will get past this. Remember the last month of regular season in 2002, when the Wings all went on hiatus because they had home ice sewed up? Scotty knew what he was doing, though - he was resting Dom, Lidstrom, Cheli, Hull, Shanny, etc. I went to the Wings/San Jose game (in San Jose) in April of that year. It was either the last or second to last game of regular season. There were no fewer than seven guys out there who were scrubs or farm kids. I didn't even recognize some of them, and the ones I did recognize scared me - Kuznetsov? Krupp? Ack?? The guy sitting next to me, a Shark fan, kept asking me who they were -- and in some cases I wasn't even sure! LOL~ It was so bad, it was almost fun! The Wings got shelled (or rather, poor Manny did, the Wings didn't even try to win) and the Sharks won big. You would have thought they won the Cup. I pointed out the faithful around me that SJ didn't actually beat The Actual Red Wings. It was Red Wings Lite. Sort of like yesterday, which is no knock on our Griffins boyz out there. If a couple of pucks had bounced an inch in the other direction, Wings could have won it yesterday. Not necessarily deserved it, but a win is a win. They will be fine when Kronner, Raffi, Cleary and Dom get back. No worries.

^^^ that's hideous. My eyes hurt now. Ack.

Given the penchant for NASCAR over hockey, I suspect this unavoidable. I won't like it, but most of Europe has never seen anything except ads on jerseys. We'll survive, too, I guess.

I think it's situational, and wouldn't work for too many pairs, aside from Dom and Ozzie. Most teams don't have the luxury of having two goalies of the calibre of ours, so tandeming isn't an option. So far, it hasn't been broke, so I say, don't try to fix it.
-
Some, not all. Watch the Feb. 5th WIngs/Wild game and see what the goalie does who stops the second shot and third. Or watch Howie today, he did the same. It's too simplistic to say every goal was not Ozzie's fault, although you're not the only one, so I am not picking on you. SWF, you're not an idiot and you know it, you idiot. I won't be one bit surprised to see Dom back next season, but would also welcome Howie/Ozzie tandem. As you say, with the contract extension for Ozzie, he's not going anywhere. Certainly not GR, although there were ridiculous posters who suggested that for the current GAA leader in the NHL, earlier this season. What can you do??

Everyone on the network TV crew was too nice to mention, this was just the second time Turco's ever won v. the Wings (version 1.0, Not-the-Wings). 2-9-5 career. Turco played his butt off today, I will admit -- he wanted this one and it showed. He got a few lucky bounces, too, but he was solid. Too bad our guys don't drive to the net the way the Stars did today, huh? I expect better from them tomorrow night, but don't think they will be OK until Kronner and Raffi are back, too. Cleary, it goes without saying they miss him. I won't be surprised to see him back before the playoffs with a full face cage on. I hope. Anyway, I wish we'd won, but I was OK with this game, given how it's been lately. They did look better late in the game. Kudos to Howie. He was great today, sure didn't look 23 years old, which bodes well for his career with the Wings. Did you all catch the comment from the announcers about how many Wings were drafted by Detroit, on the current squad. 14? Is that right?
-
hi! I watched the game at my friend's house today. I thought the Wings put forth a better effort that I have seen in some time now, but not enough. Just too little (way) too late (much) again. Turco finally "beat" the Wings. Sort of. Not-the-Wings, is more like it. Good-ish things: 1. They looked less discombobulated than they have in the last two or three games. 2. Jimmy Howard was excellent in my opinion. It could easily have been 5 or 6 to nothing, the lone goal of the game that got past him wasn't on Jimmy. It was Lilja... oh, dear. 3. I didn't spend a whole lotta money and time to go to Dallas for this one. Sorry, Wings. Bad things: 1. It's not like they want to lose, this has to be frustration for the Wings, too. But zero goals is not a good thing. 2. We lost. Stars wanted this one and they played better than the Wings. *Duh* statement, but true. The Wings showed up with about 2:45 seconds remaining in the game... that simply won't do, will it? I expect a better effort (baby-steps!!) tomorrow vs. the Avs. If I were Babs (and I am not) I would put Ozzie in goal. Let him have a crack at saving the Wings' behinds for them, the way Howie did today. Third star goes to Jimmy. Well deserved.

It happens all the time. What matters is how the goalie responds when the team disappears. It's sort of too bad Ozzie isn't in today... it would have given him a chance to redeem himself, and it's not like he's gotten a lot of work lately. I think Babcock is smart enough to know that the team is at fault, along with the goalie. He would have done the same thing - playing Howie today, I mean - had Dom been the victim of circumstances, and Ozzie was not able to play due to an injury, I suspect. All I am saying is that both goalie's stats this season are in part the result of the team's play... if it's true for Dom, it's true for Ozzie. Right? They play with the same guys in front of them. Whenever I have dared to suggest that the team played badly in a loss where Dom was the goat, I get shot down - it's all Dom's fault and never a turnover or bad defense that causes the goals he lets in. Now that the team played badly in front of Ozzie, and he lost a couple, it's all the team? See why I get confused? It can't true for one goalie and not the other, all things being equal. Which they never are. ** I am not really confused, by the way.

Dom's #1 in GAA for the league. But, according to conventional LGW wisdom, it has nothing to do with him at all. The goalie is only as good as the team in front of him. So, it has nothing to do with Dom's amazing comeback and virtually perfect play the last couple of months. Check, got it. But, uh oh, this logic goes both ways, then. If Ozzie's stat are bad, or good, then it could only be because of the team. Ozzie himself had nothing to do with any of it. Unless it's good news, and then it's all Ozzie. Right? The whole season of wonderfulness for Ozzie and such horrible, sub-standard play from Hasek according to so many here, was all a result of the team in both cases. Not the goalie. Yes, that's it!!! It's so clear to me now!!!! Apparently both of our goalies suck. It's all the team. They suck too.
-
How can one not "get you wrong'? You couldn't possibly be more wrong about every single statement... so I won't bother to refute them all one at a time. But you think whatever you think, I guess. Dom's fine. He will be #1 in the playoffs, and the Wings will go as far as the Wings go, hopefully to a Cup.
-
Howard won't be the problem if there is one, I suspect. What the Wings need to present is a decent offensive effort, taking advantage of the fact that the Stars are missing Zubov and Boucher, their top two offensive defensemen. Stars would be easy pickin's for a Wings team on their game. It remains to see if the Wings are up to the task today and are sufficiently disgusted with their own recent play to bounce back. I just hope they don't leave Jimmy out there defenseless (literally).

it's 3:30 Eastern. To those of us in Central Time -- that's 2:30PM! Don't want to miss the entire first perry-odd...Or maybe we do. We shall see!! I haven't decided yet whether I am happy or sad that I am not there in person today.

a bit more on Howie and the Dallas game including some thoughts on the lines today. Babs is honest: The Red Wings' next five games are on the road, in two separate trips. Babcock said they need to "freshen it up." "We've gone from a team that won absolutely every single night and played great defense to a team that is not playing good defense and is giving up way too many goals and doesn't have jump and isn't playing with the same hunger and fire we were," Babcock said.
