    2/12 GDT: Predators 4, Red Wings 2

true enough... I see what happens and then hear it. I tend to have Detroit radio murmuring in the background and watch/listen to FSN South, until they annoy me to the point I have to mute them. Maybe they will be better tonight, who knows??

turn on the video feed (mute sound), get NHL radio online feed for Ken and ? (get well quick, Mickey). That's what I do... as Nashville has THE worst commentators on the face of the Earth.

Hey, L11! you got bad weather there, huh? Ice and snow, never a good thing in the South. I enjoyed watching Wayne pop a vein when the Preds came back and trounced the Yotes. Wayner says Brylgalov has to "get better and take responsibility" whatever... Best of luck tonight, but I think the Wings will come out with a good effort v. the Preds. Stay warm, and safe!

Howard recalled to replace Hasek (hip flexor)

I totally agree with your assessment on Jimmy, from what I know about him - which is little more than what was said about him in Training Camp (all good). Correct me if I am wrong, but my impression is that the GR team hasn't been so wonderful in front of him this season. Much as I love the Dom, I would like to see Detroit with a long-term solution in goal. They've done what they had to, pretty much, in the past couple of seasons due to the cap and other issues -- but if Howard has the goods, he will have to prove it when he's called upon. Whenever that is.

well, the Wings should win, with the Preds missing Tootoo, Sullivan and Erat. Plus Ozzie usually owns the Preds. But who knows? I do hope Homer gets a hattie, however.

Howard recalled to replace Hasek (hip flexor)

I won't be surprised to see Dom re-sign for another season. His son is planning to attend Michigan State in the Fall, another reason for the family to stick around in Michigan. That oughta make a few people's heads explode around here...
  7. No Offense, Wings the author weighs in with his assessment of each Wing, saying the real issues in Detroit are in the details, rather than the big picture. Interesting!

Howard recalled to replace Hasek (hip flexor)

I am starting to think that might not be such a bad idea for a couple of them.

Kunitz learned his moves from the stellar Captain Neidermayer in the playoffs last season: "how to shove a goalie into the crease with a frozen puck and it's counted as a goal" in one easy lesson.... with help from the refs, of course.

aww, thanks! I sent a note, too. Bless his heart, I am glad he's going to be OK.

All you said is true, except this has been a problem all season in their losses. My 'favorite' lack 'o scoring game so far is the 0-3 loss to STL at home -- when the Wings hadn't been shut out at home since Jan 7, 2004. One would have thought that was some motivation, but apparently it was not. Nearly all of our losses are by one goal (not counting EN losses) and are low scoring aside from "blowout" losses of more than 4 GAA, one apiece for Dom and Ozzie this season. Nearly all the losses are low-scoring affairs, thanks to the efforts of both goaltenders. Some of the wins are low scoring as well, which is more frightening, but makes for some exciting hockey. It's time for the offense to show up when it counts, I say.

I watched the DVRd game last night. I think you're right.

Howard recalled to replace Hasek (hip flexor)

Sounds precautionary to me. But who knows? Hip flexor injuries (chronic) are what finally did Patty Wah in and made him retire. It's probably no big deal with Dom. Goaltending has not been the Wings' issue this season anyway. I am much more concerned about losing Dan Cleary for the season, than Dom for a couple of games... Fingers crossed Dom's OK, anyway, though.

Reheated Wings: Osgood sparks Detroit while sharing time with Hasek

Lovely. There would still be people who would complain about at least one of them, I am certain.

Lord, OsGod... You and I agree on this (among other things). I hope we see the PP woes addressed - somehow - and soon. I am on the edge of my seat every game, praying the "real" Red Wings show up when we have a one- goal lead. Heaven help my blood pressure when we are trailing. Even Babcock said, they weren't very "Wing-like" in a game recently. He stole my phrase for them, as that is what I am prone to say on a given night. It's frustrating to see a bunch of guys who are this talented just lay back and lose it. Of course, we could just blame the goalies, and be done with it.

Only if the reverse is true -- all posters who jump on anyone who says anything positive about Dom or anything negative about Ozzie should be also banned. People whining about some level of fairness in this situation should be banned, as well. There's no discussion if opposing views - like supporting Hasek, or fair criticisms of Ozzie - are not allowed. There is a thread in the General Forum entitled Double Standard. I seriously thought it was going to be about the goalies in Detroit.

you must not criticize anything about Ozzie, ZDC. It is not allowed on this board at any time. You will be reprimanded for even suggesting that 5 goals on 25 shots is bad. Or that Dom had no D in sight on the GWG yesterday. Or that the offense has sucked for weeks now, when they are needed most. Dom bad. Ozzie good. Got it???

I am glad to know I am not the only one concerned about this. Yeah, I know we have guys who can score. But timing is everything, and I don't have confidence anymore that someone will step up when needed. The win vs. the Wild was a happy accident, really. The last two games really exposed the lack of offence. This trend of flinging 30-40+ shots at the opponent's goalie, with half of them harmless, is going to bite us. Makes the other teams' goalies look great, but that's about all. How about... I dunno, aim? Don't shoot from the perimeter? Get in on the net and beat on the goalie, the way other teams beat on ours? I am just expecting too much to see the Wings of the past, when you just "knew" the Wings would score on a power play. Now, it's a treat when that happens. With Cleary gone, either we need help on scoring or the guys had better figure out who's gonna step up here. Dom and Ozzie can't post a SO every night, although they've done their part to keep the games winnable. Two goals a game just might not be enough down the stretch... JMO.

Reheated Wings: Osgood sparks Detroit while sharing time with Hasek

Not really, they work for NBC and don't know any better. What is stupid is when LGW posters say the Wings need to improve their goaltending situation.

    2/7 GDT: Kings 5, Red Wings 3

The Wings won v. the Wild because Hasek was dominant and didn't let anything stoppable get past him. The team didn't show up at all except for a crucial last few minutes in that game. I guess I wasn't really surprised to see them play badly againlast night, just a continuation of the slide from the game before. And I agree, putting Dom in cold in a game where the team clearly was off wouldn't have made much sense. This game wasn't Ozzie's fault at all. He was a trooper. Maybe everyone will be in a mood to play hockey tomorrow, v. Toronto. That would be nice.

    2/7 GDT: Kings 5, Red Wings 3

Actually, I have only seen one poster here who ripped Ozzie, and I have had him on ignore all season. I am a masochist, so I peeked. Anyone else who suggests the game might have had a better outcome, had Ozzie stopped a couple of those , gets an immediate and stern reprimand for saying so. From what I've read in the game stories today, the loss was due to our stinky powerplay and otherwise, all the goals were the defense's fault. That's how it is. Four goals on eight shots? There would be a dozen people here wanting to bench Dom or run him out of town. Ozzie "had a rough night." So, no worries, OsGod. No one is dissing Ozzie at all. It's not allowed.

    2/7 GDT: Kings 5, Red Wings 3

from the yahoo.com game AP recap: "The Wings fell to 28-3-1 when leading after two periods and Los Angeles improved to 4-25-2 when trailing after two." I love the English language. And hockey writers...

    2/7 GDT: Kings 5, Red Wings 3

Dom's always ready. So's Ozzie. It's the rest of them I am worried about. Not really, though. I think they were due for a stinker, and needed a kick in the pants. If this wasn't it, I don't know what would be. Poor LA, this has to be a slightly bittersweet win. They have to know they didn't beat the 'real' Red Wings.
