you all are right about the Nicky Zherdov thing. If Gare starts calling Nash "Ricky" I may lose it here. -

I just saw the replay. The puck was in the net before Ozzie ever turned around. Even if the BJ wasn't there, he wasn't stopping that one. If a Red Wing scored the same goal on LeClaire, we'd be giddy over it. Still not Ozzie's fault, but I see why there was no call. Besides, no Wings goalie ever gets a call because there is an opposing player in the crease, best I can tell. -

I wish I had seen it. So Ozzie being out of the net didn't cause the goal, after all? I might have mis-read that comment earlier. -

I love you, Miquel! It works!!! yay!!! Thank you! -
I agree with Harold, I have never understood the bashing Ozzie was subject to. Now, the villagers have the torches and pitchforks out over Dom, instead. I guess it's Dom's turn to be run out of town this season. remarkable, isn't it? Dom will be fine, regardless of what LGWers say. we actually have plenty of company, Booster. A lot of them no longer post here because of the over-the-top bashing, but they're there.

I officially hate the NHLN. I can't believe they swiped this game from us. Son of a dammit... -

get 'em, Reem. There are different rules where Detroit goalies are concerned, I think. -

what the heck is going on? I just got in, and Oz got 17 SOG on him in one period? Dom needed this game. Sounds like the guys showed up tonight. But go, Ozzie!! Someone tell me why the Wings do this? -

Hola, Miguel! Thanks for the offer, I'll check back nearer the gametime. A lot of us in here won't be able to watch due to NHLN stealing our games. I checked, and it is not on the CI schedule so this one is definitely gone for us CI'ers not able to get NHLN. Gracias! -
Rabid, welcome and thanks for the insight. Booster, you're my man. Dom isn't done, not by a long shot. No pun intended.

If Dom were to play, you'd still see a better effort tonight, I suspect. Hasek isn't the reason for half-a-dozen breakaways in a game, that's the Wings doing that. Why, is the question? They need to work on that. -
I am sure there are lots of things we don't hear about, Flip. Most of them are good. That's why we don't hear about them. Doesn't make such a good headline to state that the Wings support each other and like each other as a team. I've never actually seen this forum when the Wings are actually losing, since they virtually always wind up in first place in the regular season. As OS said, meter-busting freakouts only occur in the playoffs, when nothing is good enough except a Cup. Even then players and games are never quite good enough. You somehow have to win better than just winning. The 7-0 blowout v. the Avs might be the exception in 2002. But even then there were complaints -- Hasek got an easy shut out. Of course, he did. How idiotic is that??? Maybe the Canuck game where Nick revealed Cloutier as what he is... but I suspect there were doubts directed at some players in that game, as well. Never happy. Wonder what would happen if the wheels ever really did fall off. I don't want Ozzie, or the Wings to lose. But if they do, there won't be any back-lash against Ozzie, and it's unlikely that if there is, he would deserve it.

I laughed out loud at this, seriously, when I saw it. Chair massages and wine w/ hors d'oerves during a game? Um. No thanks, none of that for me. Pre-game skate standing by the glass? Sure. I go for the hockey game, when I am fortunate enough to have tickets to a game. But, maybe the Detroit PR guys know the local market better. I guess. Although a psychic might come in handy, at times, if they're any good.

I've seen it spin around in circles before, Flip. Re: your new avatar, I am glad it is not Ozzie and Dom who don't like each other. ed: dbl post, sry

He rarely has two bad ones like last night's, since you rarely see the combination of breakdowns and errors. For example, the best D-man in the business, falling down and allowing the game winner. SInce tonight is potentially a record-setting loss in that it could be 4 in a row, I am shocked and amazed that they aren't throwing Hasek to the wolves. It's possible they still might. May as well dump all the crap on one player so the rest of them can feel OK about it, huh? Sarcasm, here, since I know the players do not blame that game or Anaheim on Dom. Ozzie says he's ready to go, and I bet they play him, since it's a back to back and that's not allowed if you're Dom. This is just the way this season has gone for Hasek, I don't see an end in sight. the Wings reserve those just for Dom, apparently. Along with deflected goals and assorted other brain-farts. Some of them he saves, and some he doesn't. They don't want to hear this, Booster. Dom is the sole reason we've lost 4 games, don't you know that?

line up, goalie assignment NOTEBOOK: Defenseman Chris Chelios was scratched, part of the master plan to keep the 45-year-old fresh for the playoffs. ... Chris Osgood, who was out sick Friday, had a good, long practice Saturday morning and said afterwards he felt good and would be ready to play tonight. The Wings don't want to play Dominik Hasek, 42, in back-to-back games. So, that's great. Cheli being a healthy scratch last night was part of the defensive breakdown (if they need to rest anyone, it's Lidstrom - they are killing him out there). Gotta love the Master Plan. Ozzie gets the redemption game with an embarrassed team and the defensive pairs back the way they need to be. While the BJs are no pushover, Wings will win this one. I am missing this game (thanks to the wonderful NHLN) and the next 4 games, since my out of town family where I am going for Thanksgiving don't watch hockey. Bummer. -
only if Dom is the losing goalie.

It's likely that, playing for a great team like the Wings, Dom would not have been a six time winner and that the team would have won Cups with him. He didn't have that luxury, but sure knew where to pitch his services when he got tired of beating his head against the wall, and decided to go where he could win. There are fans who don't believe anything, even if the evidence is blatant and incontrovertible. It's hard to say that back to back Vezina/Hart seasons were a mistake of some sort, regardless of what team Hasek was playing for. It always makes me laugh when fans say that Buffalo in '90s sucked - until Dom's role in putting the franchise on the map is brought up. Oh, wait, no, they didn't suck...they were great, and Hasek wasn't a factor. Makes me laugh every time I see that. You know how it feels, since I am sure the constant flip-flopping over the years, regarding Ozzie's the Greatest/Ozzie sucks has about driven you bonkers. Make up your minds, right? It's not just in Detroit that goalies don't get credit, although the over-reaction and piling on after 4 losses might make Motown the top contender for the "what have you done for me lately" award.
-
I'd be all for that, since I can't imagine the Wings allowing what happened last night, with the errors and breakaways on Hasek, again tonight. Whomever is in goal will be the beneficiary of much better play, that's for sure.

it's a back to back, on a travel day at that. If Hasek plays, I will be surprised, since that violates "The Rule" than he is not allowed to do that. I think they should play him, personally, but I believe Ozzie's in tonight, as was planned. Had Ozzie not been sniffly on Friday, I think the games would have been reversed. Babs hasn't given up on Dom, nor have the players. Some fans here have, and that's too bad. I bet they play a game that is 180 degrees from last night's... no stupid penalties, no breakaways, no falling down and letting the skaters go in 1-1 on Ozzie... it's the good life tonight! When Dom ends up with a couple of those sort of games, he will also do fine. -
True enough. Has Hasek played for a larger market team for a decade, and had some of the players in front of him that Wah and Brodie did, he would have more Cups, and perhaps fewer Vezinas. When you post the stats he did in Buffalo, it's not an accident or the result of funn/fuzzy math. He was good enough to set a number of NHL records which likely won't ever be broken. And you're dead right, that the players know what is going on -- what's a big save or just a puck the goalie got in the way of, not that there's anything wrong with that. Dom arguably has two Cups, IMO: the one he and the Sabres earned in 1999, and one in 2002, as starter for the Red Wings. Not that is matters to NHL purists, I guess, but what cemented Dom as the greatest ever was the 98 Olympics. He was unbelievable and unbeatable. The fact that he's European and was the first true superstar to jump that hurdle in the NHL has either endeared him to fans, or make them hate him because of where he was born.

Ozzie picked a perfect time for a sick day. I think he knew what was going to happen last night. Smart man...
-
I agree, Lou. Just think how great his conditioning will be, once he does get out of this funk. It's not easy working on your game, while all these complaining fans are piling on your back and weighing you down. I can't imagine this situation if he'd lost 10 games so far this year, instead of being the lucky sap in goal for the 4 losses.
