BOO!! to you!! Go, Wings!!!
-
I agree. Short of a "Rory Fitzpatrick" ballot-stuffing effort on behalf of any other candidate, those are the players I would expect to see at the All Star Show. Even though Brodeur utterly sucks at the moment, he's no more likely than Dom is to stay at his current numbers a dozen games into the season.
-
Luongo is not coming to Detroit, not any time soon, anyway. He could pull a Dom move and demand a trade to a contender, but I wouldn't hold my breath that he has that kind of pull.
-
In your opinion, that may be true. Dom was number one in goals against average the entire season, minus a week or two. Since the team with fewer goals against generally wins, I tend to like that stat. Save %age is over-rated, since it is largely controlled by the quality of shots and number of SOG. If the goaltender gets lots of shots and manages to stop most of them regardless of shot potential and difficulty, his %age will be better than that of goalie who sees fewer shots, but which are more likely to be scoring chances. See Brodeur's and Dom's stats this young season for an example of that trend. Not for the first time, the politics of the All-Star venue ruled the reality more than the facts in the All-Star Show (it's not really a game). In 1996, Jim Kelley revealed on Prime Time Sports that Dominik Hasek was chosen as the game MVP but the POB overruled the vote because Ray Bourque scored the game winner and the game was in Boston, where Bourque played most of his career. And Turco was selected by the same NHL authorities over Hasek because the game was in Dallas. There ya have it. I still didn't want him to go anyway, it's the principle of the thing. But as someone said earlier, it's been a long time since the participants in the ASG were actually all-stars.

Vancouver is a great city, you're probably right that Dom was czeching out the merchandise. Also, knowing Dom, it's possible he forgot his shoes. Said with much love, but that's very possible.

My word. How did this turn into an Ozzie-bashing thread? Congrat to Kipper, who is obviously with the team he intends to play for, and to the Flames for cementing their goaltending needs for a good long while. We should be so lucky.
-
Good stuff, HC. I completely agree... Lilja fan, here.

well, thanks, NN! I know that was last season and this is this season... just saying that if stats and history are any indication, it doesn't really matter all that much which player has the better record, apparently, in terms of the All Star Game selection process. Hasek was more deserving and didn't get selected. Even his most vociferous critics in the media remarked on his exclusion as wrong. Bettman and Co. made the final call on who went last season to Dallas, and chose Turco over Dom for political reasons and to further the PR aspect of the event. Ozzie can be deserving too (based on 5 games so far this season), but that doesn't make him a shoo-in.
-
I don't disagree... it's a great deal for Calgary.
-
clearly, not. But hope springs eternal for some, I think. I put my vote in for Ozzie/Howard next season, since I think that's our option. While some make the point that Ozzie won a Cup as starter, others can counterpoint that it was 10 years ago when that was the case. In any instance, Ozzie's not chopped liver, and the rest of the team is just loaded with talent, presuming we don't lose any major players over the summer. I am perfectly OK with Oz and Howard, provided Howard turns out to be the real deal. Won't know until he's tested, and it likely won't be this year, so that is a bit of a concern to me.
-
oh, no... does this mean we're not going to go get Kipper?
-
Dom was tops in the stats last season, far more deserving than Turco, and yet was passed over last year. I guess it was because the event was held in Dallas, hence Turco got the nod? Say what you want, Dom should have been given the spot, if stats were any true qualification. Which they apparently are not. Personally, I didn't want Dom to go anyway, and I don't really want any of our goalies there this time around. It's a shooting gallery on the goalies, and an invitation to needless injury.

NHL three stars: 1. Zetterburg 2. Lidstrom 3. Pyatt (what, no Luongo??) He did good, Reem... plus, he's got you. and so was Hasek in playoffs when he clearly stopped the puck and Neidermeier pushed him in... a little more important situation, but a different result. And so it goes.
-
Could you please tell Anaheim that? Good game! Canucks couldn't deal with Zata, Dats and Homer...
-
Hasek would have been tarred and feathered for the same play, no doubt. We got lucky. Whatever works. Just glad there's no over time...
-
I am thinking you and I are the only ones who remember that, eh? The ref wasn't even thinking about blowing his whistle then, unfortunately.
-
Could have as easily gone the other way. In fact, it has in another instance I could name. Just luck we didn't get burned on that one.
-
well, they can't have any more of our players, not that Schneids or Bert have done them much good.
-
the Wings are so "in control" of the puck, no wonder other teams hate them. If they are this good a dozen games in, what are they going to look like by Christmas? Wow.
-
Meech is making a case for himself tonight, great job! Zata is not slowing down a bit.
-
here, Edi.
-
Is it me, or is the entire Red Wings team skating like twice as fast now as they were in the first few games this season? They don't even look like the same team at times.
-
oh, I said a bad word. Z, that was sooo close.
