that's the kindest comparison that will be uttered tonight, for sure.

Nice goal by Kronner (poetic justice, redemption is thine, Kronner) due to the Sharks failing to clear the crease. Sharks just missed the net. Whew~ Rivet almost had one there.
-
hope everything is OK. Scary stuff, tornadoes... Thornton is very quiet so far tonight, so's Cheechoo
-
good try, Z and D. Net's off the moorings. Reech is a "hanger-outer" who does stuff around the hockey club for a living now. He looks exceedingly weird in a suit and tie.
-
Nabby + post = no goal for the Wings. Phooey... and the Sharks D know how to clear the crease, too! No third, fourth, and fifth whack at it on their end.
-
quite likely... let's hope he doesn't "make up" for it by turning the puck over in front of Ozzie later on. Datsyuk is stunning to watch sometimes. Wish that shot on goal had been on net... it would have turned the momentum in a split second.

I seem to recall the Wings having this sort of run early on last season, too. 2 SOG in the entire perry-odd, and tons of penalties. They came out of it, or rather got their act together. Not worried yet.
-
did the Wings just get caught again? Sharks on the PP again. Still?
-
another penalty. Ellis to the box. Chelios is hanging his head on the bench, probably sighing heavily...
-
hey, it's entirely possible that will be the ratio in this game, D13. already 1-0, San Jose. wow...
-
Sharks on the PP, Kronner for hooking less than 2 minutes in. Thought we were gonna play smarter tonight...
-
that's Reech. Mike Ricci... he was quite the guy once in SJ.

I went back and re-read Aflac's comment in the GDT. "One and two-word posts, especially, need to stop." I agree. We know it's a PP or a PK or a goal. Post a comment about the PP or goal, that is constructive and informative. I say this, due to the fact that I know some forum members "watch" the forum for play by play descriptions of what's happening. I used to follow the GDT several years ago since I couldn't see or hear the game, sometimes -- before I shelled out way too much cash for Center Ice. "Please limit talk in the GDT to constructive opinions and observations on the game at hand - that's what the GDT is for." I SO agree with this. Posts that smack of nothing but personal bias and venom need to be bannable offenses. Ditto personal attacks. Stick to the rules, and make constructive comment about players and the game. Opinions are fine. Just remember that just because you think it, doesn't make it a fact. Nor will saying it repeatedly and aggressively change anyone's mind. DIscourse is good, badgering isn't... unless you're Rob the Badger. Sorry for the soapbox, mods. But you've given me hope! I used to love the GDT, and now it's become a warzone and playground for moronic posts. I hope tonight signals a return to civil discussion and positive comments about the Wings and the game we all love. Thanks! loooooo

has a referee or linesman ever fought a hockey player during a game?

hard to believe no one put this one up yet. Go, Classy Cujo! -
Any word on game day decision on Lids and Hank? Joe Thornton's going to feast on WIngs tonight, with no Lids or Mule out there.

I don't think he dislikes Ozzie... I personally don't know how anyone could dislike him -- although I know some fans have the same level of distaste for Oz as others do for Hasek. But Babs does seem to have certain players that he favors (Sammy?) and gives more time to than others (Hudler?). As far as Ozzie "bumping" Dom from the net tonight goes, and the gleeful, hopeful noises coming from those assuming this is the end of Hasek's career, don't bet on it. I think this season, there will be more rotation between Oz and Dom, and there's nothing wrong with that. Dom had to play 56 games last year, since Ozzie was injured for a good part of the first half of the season. That was a lot, and he did it well. By the time Oz was OK, Dom was in a groove (as usual) and there was no point in making him ride the pine just so Ozzie could play. Given the chance, Hasek will be back in form. The Wings need to get it in gear and play well in front of both goalies. Perhaps taking Dom out of the net vs SJ was a message to the team, and not just aimed at Hasek. Dom got steamrollered in the Anaheim game, late in the third. No one's said anything, but I wonder how much of that he can take this season. If Babcock is fed up with Dom, I haven't seen that anywhere. If anything, Babcock has been supportive.
-
Babcock's decision says Babcock: "The thing I know about Dom is, no one cares more than he does. He'll work it out," Babcock said, adding Hasek spent extra time Wednesday working on technique. "We have to do a better job for him. If your goalie is standing on his head, you don't have to generate offense. When he's not, you have to generate more offense. We're in all in it together." Hasek understood and supported Babcock's decision. Osgood didn't think much of the change. Osgood feels he's likely to play more this season, enabling Hasek to get rest. "Dom and I are probably going to split the games anyway," Osgood said. "Usually when we come out here (West Coast), that's what we did last year, and this year is no different. "Dom doesn't need to be playing 60 games. That was probably too much." Good on Ozzie. He understands they're a team, and it's not a competition. So does Dom. It's the fans who are freaking out, not the team. Thankfully.
-
me first! Thanks for the quality job on the GDT, as always, Aflac! Hope our hurtin' guys are OK, but that they don't push it tonight if they're not 100%. Good luck to Ozzie! Wiings win 3-2. See ya tomorrow~ nighty-night!

gotta love it when people actually join the forum just to "contribute" comments like the guy you answered, huh, DetroitIan?
-
my hockey savvy friend in Buffalo just got Homer on his fantasy team, and is very excited about it. Homer is the best at his job, and that is saying a lot. Who doesn't love him - aside from every goalie in the league, I mean?
-
actually, if Dom had one more game and as many minutes and SA as Luongo, they just might compare or Dom could be ahead of him. IM did the homework on this in his earlier post: 18 Roberto Luongo VAN 6 148 .897 3 3 0 17 3.17 165 0 0 2 0 322:00 28 Dominik Hasek DET 5 104 .874 2 2 1 15 2.94 119 0 0 1 4 306:21 Luongo is not great either, yet. Giguere isn't playing at all, still IR from his surgery. I do understand that it's tempting to say Hasek is over, and Luongo is king after 5 or 6 games, but who knows? Dom will never be 'good enough' for Detroit, but neither will Ozzie.

shadow and interminded, very good reviews and stats... but only of interest to those who intend to be fair-minded and reasonable about the current situation in the Red Wings' goal, seven games into the season. Thank you for the great attempt to put some perspective on the "goalie problem" in Detroit. Dom will be fine. So will Ozzie. But, as shadow said, Dom's a total, proven professional and without question, a team player. If Detroit management decides they want him gone, Dom will be packing his bags before Kenny gets the words out of his mouth. But I wouldn't expect that to happen.
-
neat site, Kevin, thanks! I've always liked Biron and wish him luck.
-
of course, he will, dear. And the ones who are dissing him now will disappear and have nothing to say that's positive when he does. That's how it is. Wings played undisciplined hockey last night and they paid for it; the goalie just gets the blame. On to San Jose, and a better effort (maybe Homer will hide the refs' whistles!!)
-
I doubt the Wings are quite as ready to throw Dom under the bus as some people in this forum are. The Wings play badly in California, or so it seems. So what else is new? I am sure (hindsight being a wonderful thing) that Dom would have been very happy to trade that "freak show" of a game last night -- Homer's assessment - for the potentially winnable game in LA which Ozzie was dealt. But that's not what happened, Babs put the #1 in with the Yucks because he knew what I did... I knew before they stepped on the ice in Anaheim what was going to happen. I watched the playoffs last season... Let's hope whomever is in goal in San Jose gets a better effort in front of him, and considerably fewer whistles. Hopefully, if it's Dom, he gets a better effort all around (refs and D), and perhaps less than a period and a half of solid PK? Don't bother to be fair if you are among those who have, in fact, decided that Hasek is done for the year. <sarcasm alert> Be careful what you wish for...
