right you are! You're dead on about Bert, Lang will be happy with Havlat in Chitown, and I love Rafalski (I think he will surprise those who haven't seen him play much). And I think Markov will be a Wing again (or rather, I hope).
-
I think the guy in your avatar IS our tough guy. I like Lilja, thought he really showed us a lot in the playoffs, may he continue to do so!!

one reason apparently, communications was one reason, Dom in CZ and the Wings in the US. The other reason (I don't blame you for not reading through pages of posts where it's been discussed) was that Winter wanted to negotiate a higher salary for Dom than Dom himself would accept ($5M). Dom said he would take more like $2M to leave money for the Wings to improve other areas of the team. Take that for what it's worth, although I don't have any trouble believing he took one for the team salary-wise. It's not like there's no precedent for it, with the $750K rookie salary last season, and his returning/refusing $3M when he was injured.

Thibault will be a fine backup for Miller... and yes, pipe-dream/theory on Dom retiring a Sabre. It would have just been cool.

You're wasting your time saying "Don't be ridiculous" to this guy. He's determined to find something negative to say about Hasek. Some folks enjoy being venomous. So be it. For those still pondering what the wait was about, rest your brains. It was Dom, trying to talk the Wings out of paying him too much. Hasek was NOT trying to screw the Wings over (just the opposite). He's NOT the reason we didn't run out and get at least 3 or 4 marquee players. We didn't have the money and Kenny was never going to do that. Now that Dom signed for less than he's worth, maybe they can commit some money to other resources.
-
If that's the case, put his butt out there on the PP, for pete's sake.
-
for those who think Hasek isn't worth $2M, you're in good company. The Red Wings thought he was worth between $5M and $6M. So get over it. for those who complained that Hasek was stalling the negotiations, he was. He was talking the Red Wings into giving him half what he is worth because he wants to win, and wanted the club to have the extra money to put talent in front of him. Apologies (to Dom, not me) accepted. Hasek negotiates his way down to $2M + bonuses Now, the only disappointment will be if Dom giving up the salary the Wings wanted to pay him isn't used to buy some scoring. Scoring goals is the one thing he can't do for the club that he hasn't already done.

that would, without a doubt, make my entire summer, Earth.
-
the quote in your sig pretty much sums it up. No wonder the Wings love Dom. Bet they are all happy campers right now.
-
Nobody's cooler, and dat izz for shore. I knew he would do what was best for the Wings. I do hope Kenny has hidden some neat-o surprise for us, out there amongst the tumbleweeds.

nobody ever listens to me. I have been saying that Dom was likely waiting to see what the Wings wanted to do with the money he didn't accept, in terms of getting the roster set up the way they wanted it. Dom wouldn't have crippled the budget for his own gain, because it would have weakened the team in front of him. I wish I could have seen Winters' face when Dom said, no, no, $5M is too much, negotiate it down to less than half that. LOL! Of course this is the same guy who voluntarily gave up half his salary when he was injured and couldn't play. So, I guess it's not all that surprising. I hope they get Selanne with the leftover money.
-
bless you for noticing... of course, he is. Detroit is incredibly lucky to get him back one more year. Enjoy!
-
his agent thinks he is worth it -- at 10% or whatver he gets, I would say that, too, I guess. So, everybody happy that Dom is not the money-grubber some thought? HASEK made his agent accept less money in the negotiations. Only Dom... only Dom.
-
not breaking the bank Terms of the contract weren't immediately released, although it's expected Hasek will earn a base salary slightly over $2 million with bonuses. "We've settled," Winter said Wednesday night. "Dominik wanted to give the team room to have money under the salary cap. Let's face it, he's a $5 million-a-year goalie. We all know that. But I managed to talk them down to $2 million. It was a unique negotiation." yep.
-
you keep posting that over and over, Capt'n. Alright already. Dom himself never said anything for publication, all he did was say he wanted to come back. sheesh.
-
hahahaha!!! really, as if he was going anyplace else, right?
-
good move, Buffalo. I had a little secret wish that Dom would go back to the Sabres and retire a Sabre, but I guess he's coming back here.
-
thank goodness. Yay!! good lord.

I agree, there are not too many affordable younger goalies out there right now. Couple that with the way Dom played last season and the emotional commitment from the team toward him -- they want Dom back, and your best option is Dom. When the season ended, the Wings knew they didn't want to spend money on a goalie, because they figured they could get Dom to come back one more year. Is Dom screwing with the Wings and Kenny? I seriously doubt it. People who don't like him think so. OK, whatever. Of course, a better option would be to get a 30 year old up and coming goalie. Toskala was perfect, in my opinion. Wings didn't have the cash to commit, I guess.
-
right on!! Anyone but that broken down, greedy old hulk, Hasek, right??
-
you'd be surprised how many people in this forum think Raycroft (or pretty much anyone besides Hasek) is a great idea. Never underestimate the stupidity of some fans. Personally, I hope Dom retires.

Ottawa's on the hook for $3.7M for Gerber. He isn't a good goalie, Emery showed him the door early on in the season. They're sending him to the farm team to get him off their salary cap. I am sure Ottawa would get a good laugh out of the Wings going for this deal.
-
I hear Gerber's available.

Rafalski is useless?
