I am female, and don't appreciate the dumbing down of the game I love by cheap tricks and gimmicks intended to attract fans who don't necessarily show up for the hockey game. That trend just happens to include half-nekkid girls wielding shovels and buckets, out there pestering the goalies. Interestingly, most of my male friends who also love hockey, also don't like the ice girl thing. My male hockey friends are over the age of 15, however, so that might make a difference.

I remember some idiots throwing their Hasek jerseys on the ice at JLA, and boo'ing Dom as if he was the only one who was playing like crap. I thought they were all idiots for jeering their own goalie. But as if I didn't already adore Steve Yzerman, he took care of that situation by quietly saying, "I am not worried about our goaltending. Dom's fine." He was, Stevie was right. I don't want the Wings to start off in a hole the way the 2002 playoffs started, and I don't think they're going to. We're not anywhere near that out of synch this season. I do agree with you however, that the salary cap (or sombrero, I like that!) has leveled the playing field somewhat. The Wings need to buckle down and play hard all 60 minutes, or else. It's been said over and over again, but it couldn't be more true or important - play all 60 minutes, not 20, not 40, all 60. Cloutier's out of the playoff picture this time!

Zetterberg's possibly closer to ready than we know (perhaps it's the Forsberg Syndrome, resulting in instant wellness the day the playoffs start?) In 2002, I flew to San Jose for one of the last Wings game of the season. There were so many vets missing, I spent most of the game telling the SJ fans around me who Kuznetsov and Ladislav Kohn were! Dom dressed as Manny's backup, but it was pretty clear he wasn't going to play. He sat in the player's tunnel about 20 feet away from me, and munched popcorn (with Cheli, who was dressed in street clothes). They hid the popcorn bag in Dom's trapper! It was hilarious. The Wings had long since clinched the President's Cup. They lost 6-3 to San Jose. Manny got lit up in a ridiculous display of "we don't care" and the Sharks fans thought they'd beaten the mighty Red Wings, even though half of them were either really out, or checked out mentally. The Wings lost or tied their last six games in 2002. Every game, there were mysterious injuries to key players and we were all freaking. Look how that turned out. Look how much more fire we see this year, even in the waning games of the season. I am not worried at all!

The Rangers are only two points ahead of Montreal for a playoff spot, and tied with Tampa Bay. If this distraction caused by the so-called incidents with the Ice Girls costs the team a playoff slot*, I bet that's the last you'll see of them. Even if the officials did determine there were no grounds to pursue anything, it's still a poorly timed decision by these young ladies to complain now. Timing is everything in life, and this is not the time for something this minor, if anything actually did happen. Stay home and leave the players alone, and maybe they won't curse or spit on you, ladies. *edit: on further, not-very-deep reflection, it could cost them positioning, rather than the playoffs, but perhaps you get my drift. Unnecessary distraction, one way or the other...

Me? I never gave it any thought, actually. I was referring to the guarantee that Ozzie would be starting in second games of back to backs. I don't have any idea if the Wings staff will stick to the no b2b "rule" with Dom in the playoffs. As usual, the playoffs are another matter, when compared with regular season. If we're winning in a series, I can't see Babs changing goalies unless one of them is hurt. But we'll see, I reckon.

I don't need a cheerleader to tell me when to cheer for my team. I understand the game. Discovered? In order to do... what? Maybe I am paranoid, although I don't really understand the reference in this case. But, I am not naive. that's exactly why the goalies who won't move don't like this, I think. That, and they may be concentrating on the game and don't appreciate the interruption/distraction. Both creases, by the way...

Ya think? Being female myself, I can see through this sort of thing. Agenda: get close to potentially rich hockey player, land same, marry and be pampered hockey wife. Ta-da!! I doubt any of those ladies have degrees in Ice Slush Management, or see this as a way to further their careers.
