He shouldn't have to. The good ones don't.

Islanders' Ice Girls claim abuse by Rangers

they should quit. All of them. Now. Please? For all of you who bashed Dom for not moving out of the slush-shovelling wenches' way, he at least just stood there like a stone statue and waited for them to go away... "A report in newsday.com reveals that the girls were cleaning loose ice in the blue-painted goaltender's crease when Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist refused to move and used his stick to hit the squeegee used to push the snow during the first TV timeout, knocking the butt end into her stomach. Masterton Trophy

OMG, YG... how did I miss that? Poor Curtis, I loved him when he was a Sabre and as a Shark, and I didn't see that. Poor family. Not that it's any indicator, but Kessel is a rookie. It seems like the past winners tend to be players who overcame adversity and illnesses and such, but who also have paid their NHL dues, if you know what I mean. But you never know, I guess. It is the hockey writers who are voting on it and they're pretty fickle and predicatably unpredictable. Phil might get it just because he survived cancer and he plays for the Bruins. Double whammy.

4/5 GDT: Red Wings @ Blackhawks

Liv is backup, they don't want to risk any possibility of injury to Hasek. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...405024/0/BLOG09

where is this season go? Ah, well... Wings will win decisively. Ozzie with a sv% of 100%!! Go, Ozzie! Lang with the GWG.

    Masterton Trophy

I tend to agree, it's a very subjective award, and voted on by the hockey media, so... you probably have a much better chance of winning it than Dom does. Hadn't thought about him, possibly because I can't stand him. But you're right, he could be in the running.

    Masterton Trophy

smarties, all of you! maybe some nice mod will fix my spelling error in the topic title, eh? Cheli would be kinda cool, I agree. Brunette's not a bad choice either. I guess. Phil Kessel is a nice kid and I am really glad he's doing well, but...nah, for this award. I still think Dom hits all the requirements dead on, and he's 42 and still an elite player on top of that. But that's just me.

    Me eating my crow

I agree, HC. It shows real character on russianswede's part to come here and admit he may have been too hard on Dom. I really appreciate his honesty and willingness to step up. There is plenty of negativity in our little community, sometimes. This is still the best NHL forum in existence, and the reason is the quality of 99% of the posters. If you don't think a thread is worth commenting on, just pass it by and say nothing. It's not dumb to speak your mind, if you have something constructive to say.

    Me eating my crow

Here is me, going apesh*t: It takes a lot of character to say you've changed your opinion, russianswede919293. I won't go so far as to say you were wrong, since 'wrong' is relative. I am happy if his behavior and play have swung you over a bit to his side. Dom is quirky and he plays his own game. I say, let him. As for his character on and off the ice, he's never been a bad person, he just isn't always politically correct in his approach. A great deal of the scorn he's attracted is the result of the media's "analysis" of his motives - as if they have a clue about what he's really thinking and doing. Dom is who he is... and dead-honesty is one of his faults/virtues. You might not like what he says, but he means it all. I loved his comments about the Wings beating Columbus and how they weren't very good, so the Wings had better beat them. But the Stars were much more skilled team, so the Wings needed to play harder to beat them. Of course it's true. Ouch! Pure Hasek. I could be wrong, but I swear he often says what he is thinking and in this case, pretends that he doesn't know how much it riles up the other team. Far from those comments being a mistake on his part, it's calculated, I believe. He wanted Columbus mad at him so he would get lots of shots and action, pre-playoffs, from a non-playoff team. He got it. Happy Dom! And thanks, russianswede919293. Ozzie will be proud that you like his buddy Dom a little better now. Ozzie is a big part of why Dom has been so good, by being so supportive and being a great colleague. Yay, Oz!!

What is wrong with Robert Lang?

Without dredging through this entire thread and disputing/agreeing with various points, I say there is nothing wrong with Robert Lang. Our expectations of our players are simply ridiculous sometimes, so maybe it's us? They can't win good enough to suit us, even when they are just fine by anyone else's standards. Interestingly, some of the guys in the Wings locker room also don't think they are good enough, themselves -- even when they are great and win and contribute something to every game... they think they can do better. That's a good thing.

you are echoing what Babcock and Hasek both said postgame. Dom said the shut out was nice, but didn't mean that much to him. Bullsh*t, Dom! Calder = best trade deal in the NHL. Who knew? He loves being a Wing. And Bert will just get better and better for us. They did all play like ca-ca tonight for the first 40-50 minutes, but then they took over. I don't believe I've watched more than 5 or 6 games this season (and I've seen all but 3) where they played full out for three whole periods. 5 or 6 could be generous, now that I really think about hit. I'm getting tired of hearing "we need to play hard for the entire 60 minutes." Just DO it!! "Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try."

I thought they did. It's a a toss up between Nashville and Columbus, which commentators are more over the top, biased and just plain wrong. I think Nashville has the edge, just slightly.
