3/6 GDT: Predators @ Red Wings

thank you! I can't stand to see him ignored, you know...
  2. that's the nicest story... I am so glad he was nice to you, since he was (and is) one of my favorite Wings ever. Still a Red Wing to me. And I have hopes he might be again before he's done for good in the NHL. I miss him, too.

    The Love Thread

Zero love for the Dominator here, eh? That's OK. I can make up for it alllll by myself. I am nothing if not predictable, as well as steadfast and unrelenting in my faith in my #1 guy. No fairweather fan here... Dom's lucky to have me on his side, eh? I honestly love them all, even Lilly when he blocks a shot and doesn't do something stupid.

Datsyuk is a unique player. There aren't a lot of guys out there who possess the talent he has, and not too many who also get as much grief for not being perfect all the time. I appreciate him for what he is, and don't project expectations on Dats to perform a miracle every game, ya know? I just enjoy it when he does! Vokoun got rattled and that's what a talented goal scorer like Dats does --confuse the opposition and dazzle them with moves they can't even imagine. Luc Robitaille was the same sort of scorer, IMO. No goalie wanted to see him near their net in his best days. Your scenario of Datsyuk coming in on a goalie is sort of the reverse of shooters' feelings, when they would come in on Hasek in his heyday. "OMG, OMG!! What the hell am I gonna have to do to beat this guy??" Squeeze the stick, over-commit, try to stare down the Dominator... Hasek waits them out, reads the play, and boom: Dom's your Daddy. I think he's lost a bit of the mystique over the years, but not too much of the skills. Despite what the nay-sayers think, he's still formidible in goal and will bring it when the clutch 'tending is needed.

Dats was amazing tonight, definitely stepping it up while Zata is out. He made Vokoun look silly on that goal, even though I can't imagine how anyone could have saved it. ** going to tsn to see if highlights are up yet...

I get what you're saying... I have a soft spot for scrappy, hardworking teams and the Wings were that tonight, in part, I think because of the Griffins players. They played very well, considering they were up against Nashville, who are not to be sneezed at, esp. when/if they have Forsberg in the lineup. I am much more afraid of the Ducks or Sharks than Nashville, though.

You're right about the bias against Hasek, thanks for saying it for me. My other favorite Mickey-ism is "Hasek had no idea where the puck was..." as if Dom had never played goal before that game. Of course, he knew where it was. Not taking anything away from Ozzie tonight. He got the job done!

NHL.com Three Stars: 1. Schneider, for #200 2. Erat... feeling creepy for having typed his name... ew, I don't like him. 3. Datsyuk, who should have been second star

just trying to fend off the inevitable comparisons, that's all. Be careful going home, Edi...

Ozzie did great, and redeemed himself for that trickler by shining in the OT and shootout... that's the way to do it, Oz!!

you open the door for bashing and whining and senseless, endless comparisons. No one ever said Dom has never let in a bad goal. If we're going to play fair here, then no one can ever say anything bad about Hasek, ever again. As if that is going to happen.

OMG!! Wowie, that last shift was great! Could have gone either way, except for the goalies on each end. OT scares me very, very much.

needless to say, I agree. We play who we have available, though, and missing Homer and Zata, with 4 Griffs on the ice... I think the Wings look great tonight.

certain posters need to watch their language and such. I can't believe the mods would pull a thread for constructive, game-related criticism.

if he doesn't win it in regulation, you mean. Great stop by Ozzie just now...

he's stopping the real chances, Edi, pretty much. That salo-trickler was a heartbreaker, though. The Wings will overcome... come on, guys, please?? 5:06 left in the third.
