This team needs some god damn offense. Then that awful call wouldn't even matter.

While I agree that this is a problem, I think the bigger problem is in the offensive zone. The team is horrible at puck possession. The most success seemed to come from the rush. The forwards don't cycle particularly well, and the forcheck is almost non existent. Detroit is 25th for CF%, and 9th for FF%. The team just constantly shoots the puck into defensemen. There's no offensive movement to open things up. Everyone just kind of stands around, loses the puck, and it's time for some more mediocre defense.

He was also able to change his playing style from a standup goalie to a hybrid. I think that often gets overlooked.

So you're saying the preferred method would be to let him walk? I agree, that would be more amicable. However, you made it sound like it would be some fool-hardy endeavor for Holland to sign Babcock for multiple years, which is not the case. Is it less desirable to fire him? Sure, but no worries if you had to.

Why? You can fire a coach at any time with little repercussion. It's not like his salary goes against the cap.

If what he says about Pavs, Z, a JHo is true then this team will make some noise. Z, and D alone can carry this team into the playoffs. The pressure being taken off Franzen will hopefully help him out. I don't know, that interview pumped me up for next season.

I believe Datsyuk was ranked 12th among Detroit's prospects. No one really saw his potential. The fact that he made the team in 2002 was pretty crazy. I think Hull really helped his development and saw his true potential.

I don't think that's the case at all. I believe what we are witnessing is just how much of an impact player a prime Lidstrom was. We all knew he was good, amazing, one of the best ever. But, he seems to be what made the '00s Red Wings teams into contenders. Every D man that was his partner had career years. I daresay that, even with all the accolades, he may well have been underrated.

That makes more sense and sort of falls in line with what everyone thought.

I don't know if that's entirely true. Rafalski was undrafted and played in Europe for a while. There was talk that his success in NJ was a product of their system, and being able to play with Niedermayer. He did, however, have more than 1 offensively productive season in NJ.

Am I taking crazy pills? Does no one remember how terrible he was the last 1 and half seasons he was here? The dude mailed it in and was one of the worst defenders on the Wings roster. Why does everyone want him back?

Well this is interesting. Apparently Campbell is not lovin' the Florida weather. Everyone has been saying a puck moving D-man is what this team needs. I'm pretty sure that albatross of a contract will be ok with all cap room next year.
