12/28 GDT: Red Wings 0 at Blue Jackets 1 (OT)
Miller Brew replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
You know, I'm not even panicking in the slightest. I know as this team gets key players back by mid January, they will steam roll to the playoffs. There is no doubt in my mind that Red Wings will turn it on and absolutely dominate. I'm very happy with the way this team is still lingering in there despite being without 1/2 the team. That says a lot. -
Would you take Ilya Kovalchuk if Lidstrom retires?
Miller Brew replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
No offense, but that would be just plain stupid. Why give up so much for a rental when he could possibly be had as an UFA in a few months for nothing? Wings/Holland are not THAT desperate. I think this guy is going to be stubborn for any team to negotiate with (from what I've read). Not worth risking our talent for. -
Losing Zetterberg was the straw that broke the camel's back. Wings won only one game since he went down? Damn this sucks.

Oops, I forgot a "t", send me to hell. I lost all credibility on LGWs. Guess I shouldn't watch hockey anymore, I forgot a 't'. Please lord have mercy on my soul! That should teach me to never forget a 't' again... I hope. Don't want to be burned at the stake. /shivers

Everybody on our team is overrated. Even Kenny Holland is overrated. Hell, even Illich is overrated. That said, I don't care if they are all overrated as long as they keep bringing the cups home to HockeyTown where it belongs. Guess they're not so "overrated", after all.

Yeah that was my point but got blasted as I predicted I would. It would nice to see Lidstrom retire on top. If he took a huge salary cut and left more money for Holland to find skilled players, Wings could win the cup (or make it to the finals) in 2011, and Lidstrom could retire on top. My suggestion that he retires this year is based on his elbow tendonitis, which seems to be really ailing him. He's struggling to shoot the puck, I'm sure he's in tremendous pain. I have a feeling he retires -- I'm getting the feeling he's playing this year to complete his contract. The man is 40 and had the best career than any NHL player could ask for. He's not Chelios.

Per Ken and Mickey's pre-game show last night, Red Wings' Right Wing, Daniel Cleary, is expected to return January 2nd 2010... which is only 2 games away. Cleary has 7 goals and 16 points in 30 games. His presence will boost the Red Wings' offense and will be a huge boost for the Power Play. Ken and Mickey also said Zetterberg is way ahead of schedule and should be ready to practice with the team in 2 or 3 days. They said after he does some practices with the team, he should be ready to play NHL games shortly after. They didn't specify a return date for Zetterberg. Great news if you're a Red Wings fan.

Cleary expected to return against Coyotes on Jan. 2nd

One more game away for Cleary to play. Tik-Tok -
I would be sad to see Lidstrom retire but I hope he hangs them up. If he wants to play another year I hope it's for under $1.5 - $2 million. I'll probably get blasted for saying that, but that's my opinion.
-
I'm not worried. Wings have Cleary, Zetterberg, Ericsson (and probably Kronwall) coming back in around the time to start January. Cleary is expected to play after next game.

Hell, Holland would even throw in a Red Wings hat and a pizza. -

Who? That's the thing, Lidstrom is absolutely irreplaceable. I can't think of a UFA defenseman who could fit the mold. I think our best option is Kronwall and Stuart on the top pairing and finding a solid D-man for the 2nd pairing. I think Kindl is a lock for the team next year also? -

Good game by Wings... the near future will be bright when we get some bodies back. Glad to take 3 out of 4 possible points from a division rival. Lidstrom should probably take some time off to heal up after we get some healthy guys back. -

Please stream. -
Well, it would certainly make finishing dead last feel not so bad for the next 20 years or so, heh. I doubt Wings could finish last if they tried anyhow. Besides, Holland would probably trade the Number 1 pick for 12 third and fourth round picks that all result in Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Franzen type guys. May as well just finish first then, I guess.

I wouldn't mine seeing this Taylor Hall kid drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. Get-R-Done, Kenny

Caps send Jurcina & Clark to CBJ for Jason Chimera
Miller Brew replied to miller76's topic in General
I'll admit, this deal doesn't really make much sense to me. I think Caps got the better deal but I don't know. -
Canada is single handily dominating Swiss Cheese. But a couple of those goals would be disallowed if it was Red Wings scoring them like that in the NHL. Officials also seem to be favoring Canada.

Yup. He's a 5'9 @ 160ib defenseman drafted 106th overall. Good pick by the Ducks, though he's only one hit from a career ending tragedy at his size. He was an amazing player yesterday though. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=120910

The guy who created the video (seen on the OP of this thread) said Nestrasil is comparable to a Thomas Vanek type player (at his age). http://hfbroads.com/showpost.php?p=174161&postcount=2 Amazing!

Nice quote by Ber2zzi. He's hungry to win. We need that in the locker room.
-
Who cares about an old washed up Lang. We should discuss this new upcoming stud.

Andrej Nestrasil is projected as a top-six as the "new-age NHL Power Forward" http://www.redwingscentral.com/prospects/nestrasil.php
