Visnovsky files NHLPA grievance to void NYI trade
Doc Holliday replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Islanders will probably look for more considering that they needed to get a defensive asset and their second round pick would be a lot more valuable than ours. -
For Lucic, I can see that, but I don't know about Hartnell. Philly will probably want to dump some cap space and we could help them out with that. But at the same time I'm not sure Hartnell improves this team to the degree we want it to. I would rather sign Semin and/or Doan and then move Filppula/Franzen for a mid-aged defensive asset.

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Doc Holliday replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
I like how Cougar is hiding behind the words of other posters instead of saying something himself. As far as the thread goes, this is the first time since 2008 that Detroit has actually been able to sign high-tier players from free agency. It didn't work out. Suter seemed to be set on coming here until Parise got a hold of him, Nash was cockblocked by Howson from coming here, Weber was signed to a ridiculous offer sheet by a team he appeared to be only interested in, and of all that is left there is still left to be seen. It will be interesting to see how contract talks work out now that these crazy long term deals are getting removed after this CBA. I don't like this team now, but we can rebuild it. We have the technology. -
Howson wasn't going to trade Nash to Detroit. End of story.

When in doubt, use exclamation points.

Well I'm not sure that is "having it both ways." He is happy that the Red Wings still were competitive enough to gain the attention of Parise, but at the same time talks about how he may have not wanted to go for both players for that long for that much. In another article he even talks about how he can only really be able to support one or two more of those types of deals, which may have made him leery about Parise.
-
Do you have the full quote? Because I was under the impression that quote was taken woefully out of context when I found the full statement he made about that situation.
-
ShanahanMan is right. Holland should instead talk about how the team is horrible and that they won't be able to compete for anything.
-
I honestly don't know, but it is discouraging to see him say that in the media. Semin would be a great winger for Datsyuk, take off some pressure of our secondary guys, and possibly redefine himself in a Wings uniform. Holland needs to spend some of this cap space one day or another.

I wonder how long that ridiculous quote will be misinterpreted before that guy freaking retires... How does signing nobody help that?

What a disrespect to one of Detroit's most respected and cherished players.... -
Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild
Doc Holliday replied to Liquidsnake's topic in General
Say what you will about Holland's job the past couple years, but you can't fault him for what happened with Parise and Suter. He did just about everything he could to land Suter here. -
signed Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)
Doc Holliday replied to Matt's topic in General
Even if Sammy isn't going to be as good as he was when he was here, I'm sure he will be able to bring us something we haven't had for the past couple years: Clutch goal scoring in the playoffs. -

He doesn't look too shabby in a Wings jersey. -
We Need to Get Tougher to Play Against

2.2 seems like a steal considering Gaustad signed for a million more than that. And I think Prust would be more beneficial to the lineup. -

Then obviously you care about your own personal hatred for a player than the actual success of the team. -
I've spoken to a few Caps fans, and they personally think the whole "is a lazy floater" thing is overblown. Ovechkin has really tailed off and appears to be taking a majority of the brunt there now. Plus, I am starting to warm up to the idea of Semin and Datsyuk on a line. Datsyuk has always wanted a Russian counterpart since the Larionov days and I bet Semin could get back to his old ways with Pavel. Sure it is a risk, but it beats losing out on Parise and having no options.

What does Holland have to do with other teams' players becoming available for trade or from free agency?
-
That was a really long way of not answering my question in the slightest and bashing Franzen once again in the process.
-
Why do our rivals always have so many good players that are available?
-
Why did Philly do this deal, now?
-
If we don't have a goal scorer on the first line, what good is that first line? The Nashville series showed we need MORE goal scorers, not less. Never? Really? Wonder where he got the name "Mule", then.
