Babs needs to stop fooling around with match ups and just roll the best lines and pairings until we actually get a lead.

Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

He was on a major hot streak in the AHL too at the point where he was traded - like 19 points in 16 games. I will always see this as a panic move by Holland to try to make the playoffs. You'd think after Sheahan, Nyquist, Tatar all came up and played very well and produced he would have had faith in the farm system and that a high end player like Jarnkrok could pan out too. Now we have nothing at C in GR. To add insult to injury - Calle is a RH C which we haven't had in so long in our Top 6.

Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

I literally felt like I was going to puke when I found out we traded him. I pray to god this isn't a sign of things to come.
  6. Rags losing too so far.

Another assist so far tonight - 5 points in 5 games. +5.

We can definitely do better - Question is if Holland agrees. He can't help but make that one stupid ass move every offseason and I think Quincey may be it.

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Next Year: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Nyquist Tatar - Sheahan - Alfredsson (Jurco) Weiss - Legwand - Franzen Miller - Helm - Abdelkader Glendening/Andersson Deepest group in the league there. We have 2nd lines and an amazing 1st. That 4th line can be counted on heavily too. Considering what we paid for Legwand I don't see us letting him walk just yet. Weiss is a huge "?" - if we buy him out we are still overloaded once Mantha and Pulkkinen make the jump. Ideally he returns to form and makes us that much deeper. Honestly, we can work a trade here - we have Jurco (ready) AND Mantha AND Pulkkinen (ready soon) along with Glendening/Andersson/Callahan/Ferraro all potentially being available for 4th line duty. In one year we will see Alfie gone, but that just bumps Jurco in. We still can move other players considering we have Mantha and Pulkkinen. We are so ******* rich in forwards the possibilities are endless. We are also very deep in D prospects. The management have some scary decisions to make this offseason in terms of re-singing players and their contract lengths to avoid logjams in coming years. One thing is clear - we ABSOLUTELY have no room for Cleary and Bertuzzi anywhere unless it is a organizational position doing something random.

Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC

Can't he get some injections to relieve the pain and just play? It sounds like he has some scar tissue that is irritated when he goes full out. I guess he doesn't mind sitting back and collecting a cool 5 million dollars for his 4 points this season - thats more than a million per point. He has been told to try to practice through it so the doctors don't see it as a threat to his health it is just something that bothers weiss - i miss the times when a guy like fedorov gets a severe rib injury and just gets and injection during the game and plays through it.

    Injury Updates

This whole Weiss situation makes me jealous of the nfl where they can sign contracts with certain guaranteed money and cut players who don't live up to their contract. The guaranteed money gets them to sign the deal even though they know its not certain the deal will last the full term. Weiss has - unluckily - been a disaster this year and may never be the same player again after this injury - here's to 4 more years of injuries.

    3/27 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs. Red Wings 4

3 assists, 1 goal, one shootout goal. 4 points in 4 games so far - we got excited about nyquist when he did similar things.

Passing has been horrific tonight. Kronner looks concussed out there. Fell a number of times and so many poor passes on the pp. Not looking like a fun night so far. Turn it around guys.

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Must go: Cleary, Bert, Sammy, Tootoo, Quincey (we can do better), Kindl (disaster) Must get: Top 4 dman Don't need anymore forwards in addition to what we have. If we re-sign both Alfie and Legwand we are pushing Jurco back into GR or we have to trade Miller. Don't need goaltending. I'm almost tempted to suggest we sign a cheap backup only because Howard seems to perform best without competition for some reason and when he is the workhorse. I can't wait to look at our clean cap sheet without all that trash in it. Weiss needs to pick up his game to make his cap number look more digestible though.

3/25 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 4

Next game with Jurco back I would like to see: Nyquist - Sheahan - Tatar Franzen - Legwand - Alfie Jurco - Helm - Glendening Miller - Andersson - Bert (Minimal ice time) Callahan was pretty good and doesn't really deserve to sit but no way bags sits Bert over Callahan and Jurco definitely gets in.

3/25 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 4

Alfie was atrocious on that last pp giving the puck away. Tatar had a load of giveaways tonight too though. The slashing call on Legwand was a joke considering he had 1 hand on the stick. I still have a bad taste in my mouth over their 3rd goal. I don't think he puts that in the net without backing up through the net - he had a hard time getting his stick around with leverage until he got far enough back that the net was off.

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Ideally I'd like to have Tatar be a scoring 2nd liner in the future. He needs to be "the guy" on his line or it just doesn't work out as well. He generates offence really well by himself and if you put him with Dats it will be too many cooks in the kitchen I feel. God please no. The guy can't catch. He gives up terrible goals consistently where he shoots himself in the foot.

Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?

Kronner - Smith Dekeyser - Ericsson Lashoff - Quincey This lets Quincey off his leash as he gets to play with a true stay at home guy. Kindl is just a mess out there right now.

Backes on playing against Malkin and Crosby

Backes is the kind of player you hate unless he plays on your team - you hate him because he is so effective out there every shift and doesn't give anyone a free pass out there from getting hit - and even worse he scores as well.

    Showcasing for Trade?

We wouldn't have anyone to play if we didn't play these kids - we aren't showcasing anyone when we are this depleted. Its not like healthy players are sitting to allow kids to be showcased. If Holland moves any one of Nyquist, Sheahan, Tatar at this point he is a complete fool and not just the fool who overpaid for a 33 year old rental that would only waive to come to Detroit (he has been good but it was overpayment). These kids have proven they can carry the load and should be maintains in the winged wheel for the next 10+ years.

3/23 GDT: Red Wings vs Wild

still managed to gain ground on Toronto and Columbus today so its not all bad. We didn't really deserve it tonight. Refs made it a little easier for Min by letting them get away with that chop on kronner that lead to a goal and not even providing a makeup call the rest of the game - there were plenty of opportunities to call something on the wild.

Howard caught a little deep there? He played great all game though. He seems to get beat like that a lot - would help if he identified the man coming and cut down the angle for the tip to occur - but I'm nitpicking.
