The problem is the window for success. Weiss, Datsyuk, Z, Legwand will all be gone within years of each other likely. We traded away our next up and coming C to replace them. The task is now to find those replacements or we are screwed. If Legwand was 27 and filled out our age gaps I would have been much happier about the acquisition even if it cost more (which it would have).

Coming off an injury - nobody knew what would happen. Some players are never the same. We are also dealing with 25 million versus measly pennies for a kid. I think Jarnkrok easily would have bested Weiss' stats this year with his ice time.

The post was clearly marked "Recent moves." In the last 6 years we HAVE regressed significantly - you have to agree with that.

To add fuel to the fire - how does a guy like Weiss get a 5 year contract coming off an injury and never playing a game in a system like Detroit's and a kid like Jarnkrok can't get a chance in the lineup once?

If you look at other deals made today it was huge overpayment. If you consider his RECENT track record he has messed up majorly in the last 5 years. He hasn't been very successful in FA pickups aside from the ones that fell in his lap. Thank GOD we have talented scouts and good coaching of the kids in GR or we would be absolutely screwed by what Holland has done and left undone recently. If he wants to win the cup he should have addressed our D rather than adding another redundant C. If Helm is out a week and Weiss is back soon then this was a huge overreaction on his part. For a guy who claims to focus on the future this seemed like a knee jerk reaction to potentially missing the playoffs. The goal should be a cup - and if that means sacrificing the season and not causing a logjam at C for the future and trading away a top prospect then that should have been what he decided to do. Holland wants us to love him the way he loves his old veteran players and acquisitions - keep them (him) around for what they (he) have done in the past rather than what they (he) can do now. Holland has lost his touch much like his recent acquisitions and has put a sour taste in many peoples' mouths. Many players now look at what is happening in Detroit and decide its not as attractive as it once was when it was loaded coming out of the pre-cap era. Other GM's find a way to put a fresh spin on things and breathe new life into their teams - Holland seems to want to mummify this team and preserve it for ages. These are all reasons why fans are reacting so harshly.

Weiss has used up a lot of patience from my perspective. He needs to come out and kill it - be the pro we signed him to be. The start he has had with this organization has been tainted by his injuries and its tough to recover from that mentally as a player without a fresh start.

Recent good moves: Hossa fell in Holland's lap Dekeyser fell in Holland's lap Alfie fell in Holland's lap Getting Stuart originally Letting Leino Walk Holland is doing far more damage than good to this team in my opinion. The team has consistently regressed. At this point I would prefer a fresh set of eyes to assess the current situation and go forward. I honestly don't give 2 s***s if Legwand is from Detroit - it isn't worth overpaying for him. I can only imagine Holland would have ponied up Nyquist + Mantha + Dekeyser for Kesler if Kesler was 33 instead of 30. He would have but Kesler isn't washed up enough for his taste. Players come to detroit and relax rather than work hard. The exception is Alfie and the rookies who are proving themselves. Bert, Cleary, Sammy, Weiss all came/re-signed here and just took it to signal the end of their careers and join the country club. I hope Legwand doesn't turn out that way.

Holland is sure as hell ramping up the pressure on himself to draft a 1C in the next draft or two. This is the only way he can ever expect to survive the retirements of Datsyuk and Zetterberg and then Legwand and Weiss promptly along with them. We have NOTHING for the top 6 C outside of maybe Sheahan who may be over performing right now as we all projected him as a 3C at best. Helm will never be a top 6 C and we have SQUAT other than that. Holland better be looking to take our 1st, 2nd (if we have it) and move way up to get a player like Draisaitl or something because we are looking terrible at C depth now in the minors.

This is why holland should just sit on his hands on deadline day. I think Jarnkrok + 1st could have gotten Edler and actually solved a problem for once. Also Holland said he wouldn't make a move for a rental - well that meant jack squat.

Legwand had a NTC - its not like other teams were asking really. Holland had a sitting duck and he botched the kill brutally. Preds would have lost him for nothing in the offseason - holland had all kinds of leverage.

Holland threw a band-aid on the situation in hopes of making the playoffs. This team has SO many issues primarily D that how the hell does he hope to win the cup? We can't keep the puck out of our net in the final minutes of periods so that bodes terribly for playoffs.

Holland is a fool. Playoffs this year appear to be more important than the future. We could have played Jarnkrok, tanked, got a top 10 pick. Drafted another top C prospect. Came back year after healthy and cut ties with old s***ty players, then we would be in a great situation. Instead we will fail once again to draft a top C prospect AND trade away the only one we have! Holland has no plan for the future of our C's clearly. We have to hold out hope Sheahan becomes a 1C and Andersson all of a sudden learns to skate and becomes a 2C.

Everyone THINKS holland knows something we don't - what if he just f***ed up like with quincey, hossa, etc....

I think I might cry. Jarnkrok? I am in shock. How the hell did Holland make this deal? I could understand Jarnkrok in a trade involving Kesler but jesus you go and get Legwand! This is the Erat trade all over again. Polie is a genius clearly.

Jarnkrok alone is better than Collberg and a 2nd to get Vanek.

Holland gets fleeced at the deadline. Quincey for the 1st was terrible overpayment. Anything more than the 3rd was overpayment on legwand in my opinion. Eaves was for cap reasons but we could have moved cleary or bert or sammy if we were trying to move cap - eaves is still useful.

Legwand and Weiss make each other expendable. I'm not to pumped about having them both on the roster when we are healthy.

So we could have had Moulson or Vanek by the looks of things.

If its a 2/3rd I can live with this. vanek for a 2nd and prospect?
