First I've heard of a number being floated around. See the second item on the link below. So what happens if Flip wants "$4.5m or so in a new deal"? http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2013/03/03/simon-gagne-was-expendable-in-los-angeles/

GDT 3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)
ogreslayer replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Here's what I want to see: Tootoo destroying Carcillo in a fight (followed by Eddie complaining that Tootoo could hurt someone & should have only bro-tapped Carcillo on the arm) A Kronwalling of Hossa (followed by Eddie complaining the Kronwall could hurt someone & should play with pads made of Nerf tm) A Brunner hat trick (followed by Eddie complaining that shooting the puck at the Blackhawks net could hurt someone & that the Wings should just immediately dump the puck in the corner when entering the offensive zone) Mule gets a goal (followed by Eddie complaining that the Wings could hurt someone by putting animals on the ice & that they could stick with a lineup of humans all under 5'10") The Wings putting up 8 goals on Crawford in an 8-2 win (followed by Eddie complaining that the Wings can hurt someone's feelings by scoring too much & should pull their goalie upon attaining any type of lead to make things fair) Granted, probably none of this will happen....except Mr. Subtle Interference complaining about something. -
One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet in this thread is the effect that having older facilities has on recruiting free agents. If you don't think that having up-to-date facilities for the team is a big deal, you're kidding yourself. As much as a new arena would be a boost to the fan experience, it will be even more important for the fiscal & recruiting health of the organization going forward.

It can't be a buy out per rules of the CBA. Those have to be done during the off season. He's probably hanging up the skates for good instead. NHL's announcement from the change in the conditions to allow one to be used before the start of this season: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=650548

Out with a left shoulder injury he suffered in the Canucks game.

Oates should strip him of the C for that move alone. Or Ovie should quit hockey & switch to soccer where moves like that belong.

So who knew that "Rivalry Night" in the NHL meant the Wings vs. the Refs?

Ed Olczyk, professional broadcaster, professional idiot

I think the quote should have been along the lines of "Listen kids, this is the best way to be a ****** baggy homer announcer" followed with something about subtle interference & active sticks. -

If only another Oiler had been there to provide a little "subtle interference" so Carcillo couldn't have taken that run at Yakupov... -
Except when it comes to hookers....allegedly....

Signed Wings sign (D) Brian Lashoff to 3-year, $2.175m extension
ogreslayer replied to Jedi's topic in General
A 33 year old d-man that was out of the NHL & on an AHL try-out contract when the Wings picked him up as an injury stop gap? Sure, he's played a solid game for them but I seriously doubt he would be picked up on waivers. -

I wouldn't necessarily count on that. I wouldn't be surprised if they send Huskins through waivers to GR. -

Kenny might die from shock if somebody offered a 3rd for him. If Kindl wants to know what his future is in Detroit, all he probably needs to do is call Jan Murask. As far as the Lashoff signing, good for him. He's shown that he can be in the long-term plans for the Wings when he was given the chance, so well deserved. -
Can't see this happening, at least not right now. While Florida may be playing like crap right now, at 14 points they're just 5 out of a playoff spot. If they move Weiss, who's a UFA at the end of the season, they'll wait until the trade deadline to see if they can get a contender to over pay.

Sporting News article on the NCAA vs. the CHL from a couple of years ago. It does focus more on the business of colleges losing recruits to the Canadian junior leagues mostly, but does have a few quips that are relevent to this conversation: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2011-08-30/nhl-colleges-wage-war-with-canadian-junior-hockey-ohl-whl-qmjhl Can't seem to track it down, but I also remember an article from around the same time describing a survey done about parents being more willing now to send their kids the college route instead of the CHL as the NCAA was closing the gap in developing NHL ready prospects with the CHL.

This season vs. NCAA as a sample: Wisconsin 5 US-U18 0 Notre Dame 1 US-U18 1 North Dakota 6 US-U18 4 Bemidji State 4 US-U18 3 Cornell 6 US-U18 2 Oswego State 0 US-U18 2 (Div III) Minnesota 2 US-U18 2 St Thomas 1 US-U18 8 (Div III) St Marys 4 US-U18 10 (Div III) Alabama-Huntsville 2 US-U18 6 Alabama-Huntsville 1 US-U18 1 Merrimack 1 US-U18 3 New Hampshire 2 US-U18 2 Michigan 3 US-U18 5 Milwaukee School of Engineering 2 US-U18 7 (Div III) Penn State 5 US-U18 2 Penn State 0 US-U18 3 Michigan State 0 US-U18 3 Minn-Duluth 3 US-U18 1 Wisconsin-Superior 1 US-U18 7 (Div III) Nebraska-Omaha 2 US-U18 3 Proof enough that they play Division III teams? Google is your friend.... Take out their 5 wins vs. Division III competition & they're 6-6-4 against Division I.

Yeah but it took a monumental effort by Howie for them to pull out that win against a struggling Kings team, not against a 10-3-4 Canucks squad. Hopefully the Wings aren't as flat as they were that game & need Jimmy to put up 45 saves tonight.
-
So the Canucks were resting up last night in Detroit & the Wings are playing their second game in less than 24 hours? Think the boys wind up on the wrong side of a 4-1 game today. Dats with another goal like he had in Nashville for the lone Wings tally.

He's an RFA at the end of the season & as of right now barring buyouts, the Wings have 3 forward spots to fill next season using at minimum a combination of the following who are already in the organization: UFAs: Filppula, Cleary, Brunner, Miller RFAs: Andersson, Mursak Under contract: Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Ferraro Given this list, what are the odds that Mursak figures into the Wings plans next season? You have to figure Flip & Brunner are the top priorities. Tatar has shown enough to grab a full-time job on the 3rd line at least. And if the Wings use their 2 buyouts on forwards, you have Nyquist, Andersson, Sheahan, & Ferraro ready to step in based on their performance in GR, with the last 3 giving you the flexibility of playing wing or center which Mursak can't. At the very least, you can maybe give Mursak an edge over re-signing Cleary, at least most on the board might think so. This is why I said earlier that this move is as much a positive message to the likes of Tatar & Andersson, and by extension to Nyquist, Sheahan, & Ferraro too, than it is a message to Mursak that his time in the Wings organization is pretty much at an end. They've seen enough of Mursak to know they aren't going to resign him so why not use that ice time to get a head start on letting their young prospects try out for next year's roster now?
-
Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down. Clearly based on evidence, Abby is no Weeble. He spent more time on his face than on his skates playing the Homer spot.
-
With as bad as the power play has looked, why not try Tootoo in Homer's spot in front of the net? Give anything a shot at this point to get some life into it.
-
I think this is as much as positive message to Tatar & Andersson as it is a negative one to Mursak.
-
Might depend on the 3 d-men. Q, Kindl, & White?
-
Which is what I've already stated in a couple of other posts. IF they're out of contention & IF they know that Flip won't sign for what they would offer.... Even if they know he won't re-sign & but he's a key piece for them making the playoffs if they're still in contention, he'll stick around like Huds & Stewie did last year.
