Let the speculation begin: http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=633230&navid=DL|DET|home Finger's crossed that he already made the decision to sign on for another year.

Doubt the Ducks would consider Kindl a building block. Have a feeling they might consider Smith to be one though. Don't see Kenny kicking the tires on this one at all.

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
ogreslayer replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
$6.5 over 7 years for Karlsson? Suter gets at least $1m over that I'm thinking. -

And there are people who believe the world will end in December too. It's just like, his opinion, man. So Nashville only spent $52m against the cap last season. They're on the hook for $7m to Rinne, probably another $7.5 for Weber, & it will probably take the same $7.5 to sign Suter. That's slightly over 42% of their payroll based on their internal cap from last year. With what they already have on the books, that would put them at ~$58m and they still need to sign at least 1 more d-man, a backup goalie, & 4 more forwards minimum to put a team on the ice. Unless ownership really opens up the wallet, I don't see it happening. And if they use the same ratio for their internal cap when compared to the actual, their internal cap this year would come in around $56m total. -
Nah, all I need for that evidently is to drop in on the Wild tampering thread
-
He can be offered the base entry level deal, which is something like $875,000k, but teams can also load incentives onto it which would raise the cap hit up to a max of $3.8m. I have a feeling more than one team will be willing to do that.

Traditional Tuesdays/Boneless Thursdays. For my money, spicy garlic is the most underrated sause on the roster. Sneaky good. Sort of the Pavel Datsyuk of sauses when it comes to getting love in the national media over the years.
-
Personally, I'm hoping for Ryan Suter to become the new whipping boy for not being nearly as perfect as Nick was.
-
Agreed, he did have a pretty good year & the good news for him is that it was a contract year. With the lack of depth in the UFA market this summer, that means he'll probably get plenty of offers from teams that will be above what his worth should be. I'm just hoping one of those $4m+ a year offers doesn't come from one Kenny Holland. If Huds loves playing in Detroit, $3m a year would be more appropriate. I just don't see that happening though.
-
All the UFA coverage I've seen is pointing to Harding wanting to go somewhere he has a chance to be the #1 guy. I agree, don't think it will be Detroit.
-
Good signing & while it seems just a little high right now, I think over the 4 years that will end up being a good price, maybe even a little bit of a bargain. So Abby next but how many years/$s? 2-4 with a hit around $1.6-1.8 maybe?

League takeover of cash-strapped Devils may be inevitable
ogreslayer replied to edicius's topic in General
I just love how they're saying in certain circles that the Devils can still afford to give Parise big money because they have a potential investor lined up. Vanderbeek has been singing that song since last September & here they are, still $200m in debt with a $77m payment due by September (pretty sure September). Why would a free agent who is looking at signing possibly the last contract he'll ever have, sign on to stay in that tenuous of a situation? Just my $0.02. -
I know it's a limited sample size in some cases (Smith & Commodore), but here's what the Wings d-men looked like from a points per game standpoint last season: Smith: 0.5 Lidstrom: 0.49 Kronwall: 0.44 White: 0.42 Stuart: 0.26 Kindl: 0.24 Ericsson: 0.16 Commodore: 0.12 Now I'm not saying that Smith is going to be the next Lidstrom, but 7 points in 14 games and from what I remember watching those games, Smith did not look out of place at all. Oh, and he got those points playing on the 3rd pairing if I remember correctly. And yes, there are higher expectations for Smith & assumed much more potential than Ericsson because Smith=27th pick/Ericsson=291st. I think though that ultimately the debate on Schultz will be solved by him turning down a contract with the Wings because he won't have a guarantee to make the big club his first year. He'll wind up playing big minutes in Toronto or Edmonton & missing the playoffs year after year instead based on current rumors.

Got me thinking about $3 pint night

100+ mph doesn't mean much when it he has to pull his backswing all the way to the UP to fire it off, giving defenders plenty of time to get in his shooting lane. Better to teach him how to speed up his mechanics & give up a some on the mph to get the puck on net before there are bodies in the way.

Sooner than they would with most teams in the East I would think. Maybe the lone exception to that would be with the Canes if they load up an offer in order to start collecting Staals.

Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?
ogreslayer replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
So let's see... Did Parise already know the Wild were interested in him before this broke? Yes, unless he doesn't have access to newspapers, tv, radio, or the internet. Since I have never seen an Amish hockey player, I assume he does have access to all of those. Does Parise already know the maximum any team can offer him? Yes, if he knows anything about the current CBA he does. No team can offer him a salary that is worth more than 20% of their salary cap at the time he is signed. With the current temporary cap set at ~$70m, any team can offer him the maximum of $14m a year. I would think that Parise's smart enough to know he's not getting that type of money though. More realistically, and this is just my opinion, he's probably looking at Brad Richards or Ilya Kovalchuk type money & he knows that already. So all that Parise got out of Nanne's comments are: The Wild are interested in him & that they think nobody will be able to outbid them for his rights. I would have a feeling he knew all of this to begin with unless he lives in a cave when not at the rink. I'm sure he also knows that Detroit is interested & thinks that nobody will outbid them. Probably the same for the Rangers although he already said he wouldn't consider signing with them. To recap: No new information really in anything Nanne said & it wasn't direct comments from anyone within the Wild organization. If this were tampering, Lou Lamoriello would already be all over this like he was with the Scott Stevens episode back in 1994 & as of yet, there hasn't been a single peep out of him or anyone within the Devil's organization about it. And as to comparing this to rape & demanding both parties be put under oath? Please, just step away from the Law & Order reruns on cable. -
Interesting rumor coming out of the league offices evidently: From Denis Bernstein So what are the chances Nashville will want to deal with Kenny & if so, how much of a higher price will Kenny have to pay? Maybe Kenny can get Stevie to trade for his rights & then flip them over ala the Quincey deal.

Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?
ogreslayer replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
No, no it doesn't. Simply put, there was no public comment made by any member, past or present, of the Minnesota Wild organization in regards to going after Parise in free agency. That really is the only way that the league will automatically go after the team for tampering. Sure, the Devils could file tampering charges & try to convince the Commissioners office to investigate. Realistically, the only way that happens is that Parise ends up signing with the Wild straight out of the gate on July 1st. And if all the league can find is that a 72 year old former GM of a completely different club, popped off at the mouth during a radio interview, nothing will come of it. Unless they can find hard evidence that there was a distinct plan to leak info out to the public (say like in an internal email chain) through Nanne or, like in the case of the Blues tampering w/ Scott Stevens when he was an RFA years ago, the actual existence of a contract that was drawn up & discussed with Parise's agent prior to July 1st, the whole thing will go nowhere. -
Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?
ogreslayer replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
Doesn't anyone ever read? Where exactly in your original post do you "clearly state it was second hand"? In fact, in the bolded piece above, you stated that "The Wild owner just let it leak out". No, the entire story is about Lou Nanne, who has absolutely no affiliation with the Wild & is not a journalist, taking the story to the press. By saying "the owner leaked it" you either had to be there to hear the conversation or you're making a "wild" assumption. Unless the NHL has proof, i.e. they heard Leipold tell Nanne to go to the press with the info OR if Leipold himself had made those comments in public or to a member of the press, they're not going to do anything. There's absolutely no evidence that Leipold wanted that in the press, again just assumptions. Bottom line, the NHL isn't going to start handing out fines & taking draft picks away on assumptions. And btw the Nanne situation in no way, shape, or form would compare to Holland going out to dinner with an Ashar Khan, who is a journalist, and dropping information about the who's & how much's they're going after as UFAs. There is a much much greater expectation of conversations being private when had among friends when compared to being had with journalists either on or off the record. All it is at this point is hearsay... {heer-say} Noun 1. unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from another & not part of one's direct knowledge 2. an item of idle or unverified information or gossip; rumor Until it is verified, as in Leipold or Fletcher confirm the conversation went like that, it is 100% NOT tampering & nothing will ever come of it. -
Cheli trying to push for Suter to sign in Chicago? I call bulls*** on that rumor given that, oh I don't know, the fact that Cheli actually works for the Wings maybe.

Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?
ogreslayer replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
Because, per the source, it wasn't anyone from the Wild that actually made the comment public. The guy who made the comment is the former GM of the Minnesota North Stars and the comments were based on a conversation he supposedly had with the current owner & GM of the Wild. Minnesota North Stars...Minnesota Wild... See the difference? In fact, Lou Nanne has never been affiliated with the Wild at all. It wasn't Leipold, Fletcher, or anyone else in the Wild organ-i-zation that made public comments. To give you an example, that would be the equivalent of former Maple Leaf's GM John Ferguson coming out & saying in an interview that he just played golf with Kenny Holland & they had a long chat on the back 9 about the Wings going after Ryan Suter. Does he now represent the Wings organ-i-zation by making that comment? No, it is considered hearsay unless it can be confirmed with Holland & that wouldn't happen. IF Kenny confirmed it, THEN that would be tampering. -
I think it might be waaaaaaay too late for that already.

I think Jokinen for $2-3m a year plus an additional $1-1.5m in McDonald's gift certificates would work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Urx2OM6s6s

Maybe EJ or Billy Pidto will ask him about all of this on NHL Live today. Just saw the tweet that Kenny's supposed to be on today.
