95-96 season--after playing 5 games with Detroit went to San Jose for 51 games and then went to Florida Panthers for 14 games 70GP 37G 23A 60PTS ---Ray Sheppard

POWERPLAYS - Detroit 0 for 11 : St. Louis 0 for 7 that is just woeful.....good job on the PK, but 0 for 11 kinda stands out

depends, walkers, geritol.....they can take their shots, but every other team is envious of our success and are once again saying we're the team to beat. We don't rebuild, we reload.

I moved from Detroit to the Dallas area three years ago, and over here(3-4hours away) the Stars arent exactly a big draw...too many bandwagon fans I presume. Ive been to Austin for a MSU basketball game, overall it was a good experience. To play it safe if you get a Modano tshirt you will win over a few more fans. Get used to the heat, the humidity and the horns. You're either UT or A&M...so you better pick soon. sidenote - also try Dickeys BBQ and Rudys BBQ----unreal food

now this is what im talking about.....very last words "he also got a facefull of knuckles compliments of Justin Abdelkader." lol

I didnt see it posted here, and for that matter mentioned at all, but just about everyone on this site is now/has been asking for a gritty hard nosed player. Well hard nosed seems to be what Abby is working on. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/08/justin_abdelkader_signs_two-ye.html A quick highlight -----Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said the two-year contract Abdelkader received was important because it gives the 23-year-old time to develop and establish himself as an NHL player. “I think at some point in time in his career he can be a top-six forward,” Holland said. “The question is, can he be a top-six forward on a playoff team? Because that’s what it’s all about.” The Red Wings’ depth means Abdelkader likely will start the season on the fourth line with Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves. There, he will be required to use his size (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) and skating ability to provide a physical presence and strong forechecking. That won’t be an issue, Abdelkader said. He took boxing lessons this summer and can play either center or left wing. “I just want to be in the lineup night in and night out,” he said. “Hopefully, I can get some penalty kill experience, if I can, and work on my faceoff percentage. .....“He might have had a better opportunity somewhere else, but we have plans for him,” Holland said. “We think he has the potential for a bigger role and more responsibilities in the future.” Regarding his BOXING... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/07/red_wings_justin_abdelkader_ta.html The 23-year-old Muskegon native is learning how to throw uppercuts and hooks while maintaining proper balance. He's not trying to become a heavyweight, he just wants to be better prepared to fight in 2010-11, which will be his first full NHL season. Playing an abrasive style of hockey that can agitate opponents, Abdelkader will be challenged occasionally, especially on a team that lacks an enforcer and does not have many players who fight. Every and Abdelkader studied video of some of his fights and saw he was too aggressive and opening up while looking for the knockout punch. He also didn't have proper positioning and balance. If these were posted anywhere else, I apologize, but Im an Abby fan...and although the article(s) may be a few weeks old its good to know that someone will be stepping up to kick some ass.

soooo glad this deal got done....maybe now i can get his jersey..... read the name.......hell yea

Be careful what you say about LIlja and a Pain Train reference...I got about -6 for insinuating that the nickname was laughable. I also went on to explain how i feel Lilja is overrated on the Wings but not in the NHL, as evidence by his no contract offer. Im assuming its because he's a "hitter" (not my words)....the only thing he hit was the ice when he tried to kill a penalty. My thoughts: Pain Train is derived from him getting his ass beat so bad in a fight, that he had a concussion/head aches for over a year, and thus he was always in pain, that felt like a freight train. Pain Train.......or was the train actually what the last blow to his head felt like. Either one im sure.
-
I get what youre saying but I will be the first one to say...yes he can kill some penalties and block some shots. But there are soooo many times that I would watch Lilja, and E for that matter, and just laugh/scream/shake my head. I DO NOT GET THE LILJA LOVE. Ive heard from other players that hes a great guy....he probably is. But as far as out on the ice, Im a Lebda supporter before Lilja. it doesnt matter anymore since they're both gone. lets not be so quick to throw him under the bus --- I threw him under almost 2+ years ago long before the concussion. i just didnt see what was so big about him.
-
you mean an average defenseman, who was HORRIBLE on our team didnt get another offer......weird. LIlja--you were out for forever with a concusion. do u expect a raise just because you came back? --and I will forever be confused as to why there is so much love for "the pain train" he is absurdly overrated and that nickname is laughable...good luck in the KHL, if it's still standing come start of the season.

While Probert and Cheli both wore the winged wheel with respect both kicking ass in their own respective natures, it has to be Neither. A good figher is not enough to get your numbers in the rafters. And while Cheli was great for us, IF AND WHEN CHELI gets his number retired, it will be as a HAWK not a Wing.

It's sad to say, but I live in the Dallas area and Yes those are in fact the Dallas announcers. You would think that this milestone would conjure up a little more emotion than what they did. But then again, most of the Stars fans down here are bandwagon fans, so it fits.
-
I hope one of our young guns can crack the top six....I usually get some flack for this but E and Lils...I just dont see it, at all. And let Drew Palmisano play one game simply for his helmet. Sick just Sick.

Per Live 105.3 Dallas radio.....Mike Modano IS throwing out the first pitch, and is reportedly VERY CLOSE TO SIGNING WITH THE WINGS....possibly even done already just finalizing the finer details. The Dallas fans are all saying that he should retire instead of signing with the Wings. "He should be a man and retire a Star, not sign with Detroit. Cuz lets be honest, no one down here likes the Wings."(radio host) lol love the fact that we are the envy of so many.

Several months ago I went to a steakhouse(Bobs) in Dallas....walked in and guess who was sitting down at a table in front of us..... Modano and W.Ford. Apparantly our waitress said that he brings all his "girls" in here and this one was by far the best. So....that means if he does come here, she will be visiting for sure. And for the record, she looked pretty hot. My guess he's wearing 91

Cant wait to see Janik playing some minutes for us, maybe he can start to add back some of that grit we've been lacking. I hate seeing our guys getting molested and facewashed in our own crease...its embarrassing. Im figuring he'll play 20 games by season end.....with about 12-14 pts. that would be nice....and a few fights too. Im surprised that Tuzz is still in negotations....was hoping that they would tie up the loose ends a little quicker. I think he wants a little more money, just another couple 100k or so. WE NEED TO SIGN ABBY AND HELM!!! Its a must! Grit, speed, tenacity and non stop hustle...we need that bad. Eaves and Miller, I like em and I think they'll probably sign. Now whether or not we should keep one or both, or neither......eh, I dont know. As for Meech...its probably game over as far as the Wings are concerned, even though I liked him. Malts is gonna "Retire" and Ole.....Ole can play in GR. And thank god J-Will is gone....for the last time.

Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?
NotTooAbby replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
Im 99% sure that the crappy announcers for NBC commented on Toews and his subpar numbers for the playoffs, referencing how he needed to "Get in there more" and "Get more involved." LOL....29 points which ties a franchise record with Savard.....NBC really knows their stuff. Hes Canadian and he gracious (Where's Hossa? upon looking to pass the cup) Niemi comes to mind, but his numbers were pretty bad considering they won.....if you saw it years from now, there's no way you think it was Cup quality. Hell, Chrissy Pronger didn't win...im happy Lidstromboli....sorry buddy..got rambling and im hitting the sauce -
lol...damn that is a sweet earth Bertuz for less than 2 mil is a decent deal. it pains me to say, but unless we can get someone better for cheaper or the same price, its Tuz
-
lol...so wrong, yet so so right
-
alcohol....lots and lots of alcohol.
-
well put.....im on the fence about this one. It appeared that on most games there was no "jump" in his step. If he appeared to try harder I probably wouldn't be so undecided. But like you said, that 2nd line clicked and was good when it was good. Bert seeks some "continuity" in a contract which is fine provided there is some "continuity" in his play.
-
i hope to god ur joking cuz if not u missed a hell of a first period. Mule has 4....yes 4 and Fil has 1...he got credit for it even though it went of their own skate. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick 1st period. Now if we could only do this for the next 3 games straight.

GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL. No kicking motion!

one half is saying he bitter that he left...the other more reasonable half is HAPPY that HUDLER is coming back. Cant wait to see his hilarious face when he scores and the PP just got a better. I wonder if Jimmy and Huds will have their own victory thing like Huds and Ozzy cluck.
