How can no penalty be called for a blatant hit from behind, with both refs watching, and play continues with a player down after that hit... and it leads directly to a goal. Total BS. The NHL and these awful officials need to be held accountable for that crap.

Howard is basically the sole reason we made the playoffs this year, his last 5 games or so have been stellar. Hope he continues it through the playoffs. Of course, it helped that the offense actually finally showed up too.

Wings really deserve this playoff appearance IMO. Against all odds, loosing the guys we did, behind in the standings like we were, playing so many youngsters, so many injuries. Then when we get to crunch time, Howard was outstanding, the defense picked it up, lame ducks like Franzen starting to perform, Z took over, and this team got it done down the stretch, with every game being a must win, and they did it, they pulled it off and got themselves into the playoffs. No help from anyone but themselves. Very impressive. Proud to be a Wings fan today.

Great job by Howard down the stretch to make it possible for us to make the playoffs, great game from Z tonight. Another shutout for Jimmy. Playoffs for 22 straight years baby!

Agreed. I woudlnt have wanted him to go full blown sell off mode like Calgary did. But, surely there's a team out there that could have used Franzen. Cleary. Samuellson. At least get us some extra picks, or maybe a prospect here or there to help for the future. Those guys arent exactly a big part of this average team we're putting on the ice. I don't think we'd miss them much. I would have at least liked to have seen some effort to try and improve a team, that clearly by their performance on the ice this season needs some improving.

My thought's exactly. Ouch. As... "average" as this team's core has been this year, to think you can sit idle and do nothing and push for the playoffs is ridiculous.

That's really sad to hear. Considering the state of the team, and guys eating up cap space and not earning their contracts such as Franzen, Bertuzzi, Samuelsson and Cleary... I'd have been selling all three of those guys right about now, for picks, players/prospects, bags of pucks, it woudlnt matter. They aren't contributing this year (I know Bert is hurt), teams would like to have them for playoff runs, so why not deal them. Get something that can help next year, or later this year. These' guys IMO arent contributing, so moving them out of here won't really hurt us.

Wow, I wish we could put a team of Datsyuks on the ice... after turning it over, that defensive play he made chasing it down the ice was unreal. That's hustle and effort and heart and well of course, talent.

By referencing "the code" I assumed you are referring to this book that Im currently reading. Although Im sure most of you just already know it as the unwritten rules of the game... which indeed do exist in every sport. Im about halfway through it. I've already read the code book on football, and once I finish the hockey one, its on to baseball. But there's an interesting chapter in the book on the Bertuzzi/Moore incident regarding the code. The code to me definitely exists... when its.. "invoked" depends on the game situation alot. There's some really interesting stuff in the book, I recommend the read to everyone here. Including the football one. You'll read some very interesting stuff about the game.

Honestly, I dont have a problem with what Franzen did. That hit from behind by Perron is what doesn't belong in the game today. Its a blatant cheap shot hit from behind. It deserves retaliation. I guess where I have a problem with it, Franzen chose to spear him, probably just an instant reaction, but its just as dirty of a play... he should have just dropped the gloves and started swinging at Perron, regardless of whether Perron was willing to fight or not. Teach him a lesson... dont retaliate with an equally, or worse dirty play. Perron deserved some sort of payback though.
