Abdelkader-Datsyuk-Nyquist Franzen-Helm-Alfredsson Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Miller-Legwand-Glendening Roll 4 lines just like Boston.
-
What a shot!

Of those 8 forwards, only Zetterberg is guaranteed a spot when he's ready. If someone gets injured, Andersson will most likely be inserted into the lineup. Then Bertuzzi would probably be next in line. But barring another rash of injuries, I don't think any other forwards will see ice time from here on out.

$628K/year? Bit of an overpayment, honestly.
-
Edit: Too bad columbus won.

No, but they would certainly help hide their flaws. IMO the defensemen as a group need Datsyuk and Zetterberg nearly as much as the forwards. Both help the D-men immensely with their strong backcheck and ability to skate/pass the puck out of the zone effectively.

Maybe he models his game after Alex Burrows?

Looking for a picture of the retired numbers w St. Nick's #5

I was wondering the exact same thing a few days ago. Surely they must have placed him in line with the others by now, but I haven't seen a picture yet. -
Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?
Nevermind replied to NYC Wings Fanatic's topic in General
Yeah, he's actually looked much better since that perfect pass to Ryan Smyth. But to keep the nitpickers happy...why the hell did he kick the puck loose in the dying seconds? It could have given Minny a scoring chance at the very end there. -

We need more: And a real top 4 defenseman would be nice.

Luongo's still seen much crazier stuff in Vancouver. -
This doesn't feel like an important game. It should.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Nevermind replied to gcom007's topic in General
Jarnkrok has proven he can be a point per game player in the AHL over the past 20 games. It's certainly not just a hot streak either; he seems to have gotten his offensive game together (after already being very good defensively). Nyquist was also a point per game player in his first full AHL season at the same age (22). And we all know how good Nyquist is for us now... -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Nevermind replied to gcom007's topic in General
I fully support a conservative trading philosophy. But lately, it's not like we're holding out for very good trades. Giving up a first round pick was overpayment for Quincey even before he played a single awful game for us. And I still think Poile strongarmed Holland for Jarnkrok; we probably could have gotten away with less since Nashville didn't want to lose Legwand for nothing and he had a NTC. -
I want no part of a Quincey-like player. But yeah, it'd be great if a better player took his role on the team. Kindl looked so emotionless out there in his first game back. It almost seems like he doesn't even care about being in the lineup when he's making nearly $10 million over the next 4 years. If he doesn't get his act together, I do hope we trade him. Next year, I hope we have: Kronwall--Ericsson DeKeyser--UFA/Trade Smith--Lashoff Almquist (and maybe a cheap, solid veteran for injuries/depth) Who we pair with DeKeyser clearly makes or breaks the whole defensive corps. Hopefully it's someone who can comfortably play on the top pair with Kronwall as well.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Nevermind replied to gcom007's topic in General
Also, another point...in trade deadlines past, I think it would have been appropriate to pay a premium (Jarnkrok + 2nd/3rd) for a pending UFA like Legwand. However, this trade deadline, the prices were relatively low. In that sense, we overpaid compared to other teams--especially since Legwand had a NTC and obviously wanted to come here. -
Yeah, but I think Doughty plays better when paired with a solid defensive type, like Vlasic in the Olympics. Even Kronwall makes mistakes, but I still think he's a bit more consistent than Doughty. I wouldn't want Matt Greene though. He's a 3rd pairing guy and would get caught up in a glut of defenseman here (Smith, Kindl, Lashoff, Almquist, etc.) He's more solid defensively than any of our kids, but doesn't have enough upside to stay in the lineup IMO. We need a true top 4 type to join Kronwall, Ericsson, and DeKeyser. Basically we need D-man much better than Quincey to take his spot. That should be the main priority as I think all the kids will essentially fight for the bottom 2 spots.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
Nevermind replied to gcom007's topic in General
Just because some of us didn't want to to trade Jarnkrok, it doesn't mean we don't want Legwand. I'm really happy Legwand is here, but would've rather had another prospect involved in the deal. Realistically, I don't think Jarnkrok is going to be a star player or anything. But I think Jarnkrok he has the potential to be a Filppula-esque player. He was worth hanging onto or trading for a bigger piece IMO (especially since just last year we refused to involve him in trade talks involving Iginla, Nash, Bouwmeester, etc.). In the end, we probably could have gotten Legwand some other way. -
Different doesn't necessarily mean better.
