Great news. I'm assuming he takes Bertuzzi's spot. I'm happy with Legwand, but I really would have liked to seen Jarnkrok with the big club at least once or twice before trading him away.

Are you okay with about $10 million committed to Weiss and Legwand? Besides, where does he fit next season if Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss and Helm are all healthy?

I didn't mean Jarnkrok was already elite. But if we're splurging on free agency for a top 6 center, I sure hope he'd be elite. Besides, he'd already be at least 27 years old. And you admit that Jarnkrok could be a great potential #1 center. It just doesn't make sense to replace him with an 18 year old in this draft. He'd still be a long ways away and yet another uncertainty. By the time he's ready, both Datsyuk and Zetterberg could be gone. I don't think Jarnkrok will ever end up being a #1 center in this league, but I do think he has the potential to be a better version of Filppula. He's already known to be a great defensive forward and an extremely hard worker. Now we gave him away for Legwand, who may not have a long term future with this team. It's a tough sell to spend money on both Weiss and Legwand next season.

Elite players don't make it to free agency anymore. And if they do, it's a Parise/Suter bidding war. Young, defensively sound, top 6 centers don't grow on trees.

Only if Kenny's allowed to throw in a 2nd round pick as well.

Either that or the assistant GM isn't doing his job. Just last year, Jiri Fischer said Jarnkrok is probably the best prospect in our organization. If he's not leaving for Sweden, this is just an embarrasingly awful trade.

From everything I heard, Jarnkrok is an extremely hard worker with great character as well. So there's that.

While I agree many of us overrate our own prospects, Jarnkrok is the best center prospect in our entire system. Unless he's going to Sweden for sure next year, I don't think it really matters what Legwand does or not. We should have been able to get him with another prospect instead.

If it's Jarnkrok, Holland should be fired immediately. While Jarnkrok probably won't be as good as them, he's still the only Datsyuk/Zetterberg type of player in our organization.

He has 19 points in his past 16 games though and seems to be greatly improving on the offensive side of things. And he's already a good defensive player. More importantly, he's currently our only center prospect who could one day play on the top two lines.

I really doubt Jarnkrok is the prospect. If he is, Holland should be fired.

Legwand is a natural center and much, much better defensively than either Vanek or Moulson. That's probably a big part of why we got him instead of the other two. Vanek and Moulson would definitely be rentals. But I can see Legwand re-signing if he doesn't want too much money. At the same time though, I don't see how Weiss and Legwand can both be on the team next season if Pavel/Z/Helm are healthy.

If we don't land a defensman today, I don't see why we couldn't beat a 5th round pick for Schultz. Solid defensmean who's better than Quincey at least.

Bob McKenzie says Detroit, Pittsburgh, Anaheim and Florida have interest in Legwand. After getting Goc, Pittsburgh sounds like they're out. Legwand is a good defensive center and has 40 points so far this season. He'd certainly help with the injuries this season...but with Weiss on the team, I don't see a long-term future for him here.

Hemsky's not the right player for us anyways. Soft and extremely inconsistent.

Why not give Jarnkrok a taste? He weighs almost 190lbs now and is defensively responsibly.
