He still counts against the cap and raises the cap ceiling, not the floor as long as he's on LTIR. So, his cap hit is about $5 million.. That 5 million will count against their cap (& help them reach the floor) but with him on LTIR they'll be permitted to spend up to 5 million over the cap (76.4 million) instead of having to stop at the 71.4 where the cap ceiling is set. Or they could allow him to retire and be stuck with those cap penalties but that just seems dumb. -

The only problem with the "las Vegas coyotes" is that Bettmans stubbornness & refusal to admit that hockey doesn't work as well as he thought in Arizona outweighs his desire for expansion

And re: them choosing a goalie. I do agree with it. We need someone past mrazek and while someone might emerge who's already in the pipeline, another option is a welcome addition imo. And I read somewhere that they almost took him in the third round and were shocked he was still there in the fourth so hopefully that ends up being a value pick. I can only imagine how upset people would be around here if they did that

I think Larkin will start in GR but he has as good of a chance as any waiver exempt player not to. and in this scenario, I was assuming Franzen wouldn't be back yet to start the year, I'm about 50/50 on that. But I just don't see where weiss fits in if Larkin get a chance at the wings roster out of training camp. And I guess you could say Andersson/Ferrero but I think most, if not all of us, can agree on who we'd want out of those two.

Our line up could benefit a lot from a Joel ward type signing. But I'd only want him for two years probably and it's looking like he wants four. Either way, I hope pav makes a full recovery asap. He's our best defenseman.

Players on LTIR still count against the cap but allow their team to go over the cap by as much money as their cap hit, I believe. -
There weren't many forwards I would've wanted in the first round over a couple of the d men that were there.. But that said, I like this pick. I bet he's thrilled to get to potentially play around datsyuk.. at the very least at camp. It'll be fun to follow his last junior season. Hope he can build on what he's already accomplished & next year we can start talking about how he'd go top five if he would've been drafted a year later

I think they'll definitely try. Maybe ROR is a possibility as well if they can shed some salary. But after this move, I don't think I'll try to guess what they're thinking I expect at least one more pretty big trade out of them this off season though
