Yeah, NHL contracts are fully guaranteed for injury. Some contracts of injured players are covered by insurance rather than the team (unsure on those stipulations) but Z would get the money regardless, as long as he doesn’t officially retire.

I definitely don't think Z is done, despite the wild speculation on Holland stating the obvious. The NHL ruling that Zadina was on loan to JRs probably hurts his opening night chances imo (assuming no trade to move out a roster forward is made) because going to the Griffins will still be seen as a positive step for his development. But I could see him quickly playing his way out of Grand Rapids. So I'll leave him off of the opening night roster but expect him up sooner rather than later. Also, I think Hronek will outplay Jensen and Hicketts for a spot in the lineup. Hicketts will start in GR (waiver exempt) and Jensen will be the extra defenseman until injuries hit. Hronek has supposedly developed faster than any of our scouts expected. And him and Sulak looked good together at worlds iirc. Would love to see them both brought up together, if we made the space. That might have to wait until the 2019-20 season though.

They do also have Stralman, Coburn, and Girardi who could potentially come off the books next year. They’d have to do a little more than that to make it work, I’m sure, but that’s around 11 mill off the books if they don’t bring them back.
