Next contracts for the young guns

Agreed. And yeah, a McDavid/Eichel level contract is not what I had in mind with 8 years. The 8 years was simply to make it a very team friendly contract down the line. I would be very upset if we gave him 10+ for 8 years haha. Even much more than 5 mill per and I’d be skeptical.

Next contracts for the young guns

I get the logic for sure, and I wouldn’t complain about a bridge deal for him. But, even if Larkin only turned into an okay 2nd line center, 5 mill/year would be fine. It’s a little bit of a gamble to give him 8 years, sure. But it’s a little more of a calculated gamble than just blindly handing off a long term deal, imo. I don’t completely disagree with you though. I just think 8x5 for Larkin would have a much better chance of paying off BIG even just a few years down the line (and look like a steal eventually) than it does looking like a mistake. But, he may just prefer a bridge deal anyway; which would make it a moot point.

    Wings Interested In Resigning Green

I don’t think we should worry about spots for rookies if we re-sign Green. If two rookies really show they’re ready for full playing time after training camp/pre-season, waive Witkowski & Jensen and scratch whoever the weakest link is at that point in time. Or, if only one is ready for full playing time, just waive Witkowski and scratch whoever else. I think Oulette will be waived at some point when we can’t find a trade for him, leaving us with (in no particular order): Green, Daley, Dekeyer, Kronwall, Ericsson, Jensen, Witkowski. With that group, opening up a spot or two shouldn’t be a problem.

Next contracts for the young guns

Larkin at 8 x 5mill would be incredible even just a couple years down the line. I would be stoked if we signed him to that. If the difference for Mantha were 4x4m or 6x5m, I’d try my best to get the extra years. I think AA will get a bridge deal though.. something like 3x3m, give or take 500k per year avg. All of that would be around a 13 mill cap hit. Which would give us around 8 mill more to take care of other RFAs and offer Green a smaller contract, if I’m reading cap friendly correctly. Sounds doable. This would also be acceptable. Although I’d fear what they’d want on their next deals, I’d understand them wanting shorter deals to cash in a few years down the line.
  5. He was wearing his sellers boots.. far less wear and tear on those bad boys.
  6. Haha! Exactly. Would be fantastic.
  7. I think it was a "well, we don't HAVE to trade him" type of situation from our end combined with the Knights wanting some players signed past this year and having some spare draft picks on their end. (they'll have 11 UFA/RFA after this season according to cap friendly) Also, fun fact: Tatar is now Vegas' highest paid forward and second highest paid player behind only Fleury.

    Wings Interested In Resigning Green

I would definitely take Green back. Love having him on the team and he'd help our younger defensemen as they transition to the NHL. I think I read a while back when the trade deadline rumors first got started and he/his agent reiterated a desire to re-sign with the wings, they were saying something along the lines of Green knows that his next contract will be worth less at this point in his career. He seems like a very down to earth guy. I say offer him 4 mill / 3 years or 5 / 2 and go from there.
  9. I want Jett Woo with that Vegas pick off of name alone I just want to hear all of LCA yell “WOOOO!” Rick Flair style.

    Grade the deadline

I chose B but if B+ were an option, I’d do that instead. I’ll miss Tatar.. I’ve really enjoyed watching him. But, in addition to being a bigger return than most expected; the trade sheds salary and term, we have guys who are ready to take his spot in then lineup, and we piled some more picks up with it.. to me, it shows an actual effort toward a rebuild. And we’ve got the offensive talent to make it a relatively short rebuild - provided we have and/or can find some matching young talent on defense. I think we have some solid defensive prospects but hope we can find a true top pairing guy this draft. I think I’ve come to terms with the Green non-trade, so I don’t knock the deadline grade too much for it. Obviously, it’s a bummer.. but you can’t make teams trade you. Even if we were to settle for a small return, the other team would still have to be willing to give up a roster spot and at least 3 mill in cap to an injured guy. I’d be cautious of adding a rental who was injured too, if I were an opposing GM.
  11. If we trade them Howard instead, we get Gostisbehere. and Provorov... I'm pretty sure that’s how that works. Maybe we can get them to throw in Patrick too?
  12. My personal favorite was a little more recent. Filthy.

Maybe we’ll see a few games from Svechnikov soon? Maybe Rass will get a small look next year? Sooner rather than later, I’m sure.

I think the “injury scaring people off” bit was in regards to why more teams weren’t interested. The late trade call and giant deal it took to get McDonut makes it seem like he was their guy all along after he was made available and Green was more of a plan B, IMO.

That feels pretty good. Especially because Ottawa’s second could end up feeling like more of a late first if Vegas scrubs out of the first round, it’ll feel even better.

Green’s injury must be worse than thought? And/or NYR ruined our Tampa trade with McDonut.
  22. No salary retained AND 3 picks.. impressive. I’ll miss Tatar, but I can’t be upset about the trade at all.
