Everyone? Who wants to dump AA?? Some have advocated trading him for a top defenseman.. but that's hardly a "dump." It's a very realistic price to pay for such a rare commodity. That said, I don't want AA playing on any other team but the wings either.

Honestly, I'd take him here too. I don't think he's a top guy but he's better than probably anyone we have. Wouldn't trade the first for him obviously but I've been a fan of Myers since buffalo was rumored to be shopping him.

Injuries, bad performances, etc can cause roster changes.. there's a (probably pretty small) chance that a team that passed on him before would trade "future considerations" for him. That's essentially for free too. Slightly off topic: does anyone know of any evidence of "future considerations" paying off down the line? To me it's always seemed like a legal/formal way of giving away a player and not much more..

Pretty unlikely.. but who knows, things change. I don't blame him for wanting back in the NHL is mostly what I was saying.... The second part of my post was mostly a joke. Would be happy for him if he did manage to get playing time on a contender though.

Based on your list of protects, I think Vegas would take helm. Just a guess obviously.. who knows what else they do around the league. Maybe they'd take howard depending on how the goalie market shakes out. Sproul would be a possibillity too of course but I don't think he'd top their list of red wings expansion picks.

I'd love to have either Duchene or MacKinnon (I believe it was duchene, not landeskog that Colorado was rumored to be open to trading) because a top center is another big need for us but I think the price will be way too high for either of those guys for me to be comfortable with a trade. Honestly I don't know if we have the pieces they'd want.. Plus, a top five pick would likely be a center anyway (or liljegren, who I'd also like).

Pitt plays more offensively and tries to win high scoring games.. sounds like a place Smith might strive. If he were traded there, I wouldn't be surprised if they re-signed him for next season too. In a heartbeat! and I'd take OEL over Trouba any day.. not that I think Trouba is bad, I'd love to have either. But I'd be extremely shocked if ARI ever traded OEL.... especially for just a first.

Green needs to be protected and then traded at next years deadline if we're sellers then. He'd be one of the best rentals on the market.. Losing him for nothing isn't worth the cap relief imo.

This is the group I see being protected too. I'd go one step further on your AA point too and say it'd be in favor of helm and we'd probably have some deal with Vegas so they agree to not take AA. His ceiling is too high to lose him for nothing. Even though protecting helm and making a deal would be a worse deal for us than just protecting AA in the first place

I am a fan of offensive defensemen, so I think that's why I like Liljegren. I do like the idea of trading back and adding a second though.. how do you feel about Hague? Him or Foote would be the target if we traded back a bit, I'd think. I'd like either of them.. and the idea of a Foote on the wings would be funny I'm for it.

Vegas gets the same odds as 3rd from last and is guaranteed no lower than 6th so we can fall to 7th.. but that would be very unlikely. I think I like Liljegren at 4th after the first 3 you named. Although I haven't done a ton of studying past reading summaries and watching highlights of the guys you've listed plus a few others.

so say we can't trade for trouba at all and end up keeping our first, we get 5th overall, and centers are taken 1-4.... do you draft Liljegren at 5? He seems like he comes with some risk but the more I read about him, the more I like him.

@LeftWinger I'm not doubting we could get trouba using our 1st but I would just rather get a top center than a top D-man right now. We need both, no doubt. Defense in front of our net and scoring are two big problems we have.. a top center will help with both. So will a D-man though.. I don't know, I guess it's just two different approaches. If we draft in the top 6 and pick one then use most of the rest, if not all, of our picks on defense it'll be a good draft in my book.
