2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Sticks, helmets, and bottles are often are laying on the ice. It used to often be the bottle off the goalie net before they made a case for it. Never seen a water bottle related injury, though I'd love to see that injury report. You can't really think it was dangerous. No one was even close to it. -
Drafting Success (06-16) All 30 Teams
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
It's interesting to see that we've had the least 1st round picks in the entire league in that time frame. There seems to a problem with the data, though, if I'm reading it right. It shows that we had 6 1st round picks, I think we've had 7: Cholo (16), Svech, Larkin, Mantha, Sheahan, McCollom, Smith (07) I think it shows that our reputation for getting late round steals (round 5-7) should be retired, since we're in the bottom 9 for games played there. -
Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

Well he was never given an NHL game with the Wings and only played 2 with the Hurricanes so it isn't like he had a lot of chances. -
Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

I'd like to be optimistic on Frk, but there are plenty of examples of top scorers at the AHL level who couldn't produce much of anything in the NHL. For instance, former Griffin, Andy Miele seems to be at the top of the league for most of his 6 AHL years, but only managed 2 assists in his 15 games over 3 years of NHL call ups with the coyotes. Zack Boychuk was 2nd in AHL scoring 12-13 and high numbers in the years before that, but has a grand total of 30 pts in 127 NHL games. Alexandre Giroux, Jeff Taffe, are other examples With that said, I'm still in for giving Frk a chance next year for some games. I'd be more optimistic if he had consistently put up big numbers throughout his AHL time, but his first 2 year were pretty rough. -
Yes, but something tells me that branding a product Nut Juice wouldn't be good for business.

signed Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I still feel the same. I really like Helm, but it felt unnecessary at the time with the Nielson signing and given that Sheahan had taken over as 3C the year previous. It didn't look like he would have a place. Now that Sheahan played like poop and he got the 3C position back it makes more sense, but we still have 1 too many 3Cs if we still planning on Larkin being a center. I am glad he's still with the team, though. He wouldn't be my first choice of the contracts to ditch. I do think the Nielsen signing was the worse one at center. If we didn't do that deal Helm's wouldn't really look that bad - just a little overpaid. I think E, Kronwall, Nielson, and Howard's contracts are greater roadblocks to getting things sorted out It is good to keep in mind that Helm does have a Modified NTC that says he can be traded if we don't make the playoffs 18-19 or 19-20 or if he isn't in the top 9 those years. So there is a guard that will help us if the rebuild isn't going in the right direct by then. -
What a total crosby!, oops, I mean crybaby. You're right there's no players in the NHL that complain about calls. He would never last a shift playing beside the likes of Nyquist.
-
I'm not sure you want to call the 6'8", 250 lbs ripped athlete a pansy: I'd sign him up. I have a feeling he wouldn't have any problem clearing the crease.
-
You got my interested started so I did some reading. This article I found says his season will probably be an outlier based on his history and the deeper stats. He was riding an abnormally high shooting % (like Nyquist's 1st year). Also, apparently he was not on the 4th line as you say, but rather on the 3rd line with Karlsson and Calvert. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Paul-Berthelot/Losing-Josh-Anderson-to-Vegas-is-not-the-end-of-the-world/224/85097 If he's available cheap then, sure, he might be a good pickup. I like that he has size (6'3" 221) and they say he's gritty. Also, another RH shot never hurts. Maybe the BJs would just want to get something for him rather than just lose him to Vegas. But, even in that situation, since he's just had a breakout season, I doubt he's going to just be given away. He played on the London Knights for a year while AA was on the team, FWIW.

Agree with this. There was an article with TSN offseason's plan for us and they made a big deal about us needing veteran depth for the bottom and I did a facepalm. As it stands right now, there's only 1 spot up front prospects to make the team. Much rather try one of the guys you mention there or have a rotating call-up spots until someone claims it.
-
The problem with comparing their AHL stats is that Sheahan only played about 1.5 years there. Also, In their first years, Nosek does have a better PPG, but Sheahan's 2nd - incomplete - year has a much better PPG than Nosek's 2nd year. So, I'm not sure that AHL stats show Nosek to have a higher ceiling. But, anyway, I was really on the side of keeping Sheahan so we can trade him. I didn't think of the better scenario that you mention - where we trade him before the expansion draft. That makes the most sense. Then we still get a return for him and then if we don't have either of these cheap prospects exposed, it might be more likely that one of our larger contracts gets taken. The only problem with that is that teams may not want to take on a player that they have to protect then.
-
I agree with most of that article, but protecting Nosek over Sheahan seems like a mistake to me. If only for the consideration that Sheahan had some interest at the trade deadline. We could trade him in the offseason or see if he turns it around and maybe trade him at the deadline. From what I've seen, I've never thought Nosek would be a player for us. I understand that he's more than a PPG in this year's playoffs - has he been that good to suddenly get some hype on him? We're less than a month from the draft - It will be interesting to see what happens.

2017 Stanley Cup Finals: Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Penguins vs. Predators sounds like the worst sci-fi reboot yet. Go PK and Pekka!!! -
Has there ever been a coach who trash talks the other team's players? 'Cause there might be now. Congrats to Ott. Seemed like a thoroughly good guy from his time here.

2017 ECF: OTTAWA SENATORS VS. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to chaps80's topic in General
Only turned it on for the end of the 3rd, but what I saw, Pens deserved that. I thought they dominated overtime. -
Close enough for what? You said 4 guys make 5 mill so you did round it up.
-
Oops, I made a mistake in the other post: Only Green and Dekeyser make 5+, not Kronwall. I don't think anyone would round 4.25 Up to 5 mill.
-
Green had the 8th most goals for NHL defensemen this year. Played a lot of time on our top pair and was often our best D man (especially in the first half). So, no, I don't think he was overpaid at all. Also, he was a UFA signing at age 30 - around when players go for the huge deals. 6 mil for 3 years was a great deal. He's been very good for us and presents no problems for the cap future since he could be gone after this year. Or we could trade him for assets at the deadline, if he waives his NTC. Or we re-sign him if we solve the cap problems if we somehow shed E (unlikely) or Kronwall's knees force him to LTIR.
-
Green is not overpaid. All the commentary at the time was questioning how we got him for only a 3 year deal. Was a great deal. Also, only Green and DD make more than 5 million.
-
After the season, Holland said at one of the press conferences that they felt they especially owed it to some people to continue the streak. I heard that especially to mean Mr. I. The streak might not mean much to you, but it's a big part of his legacy as an owner. It's one of the numbers that will stick out in the history books.
-
Wait, What?! Hall was a hefty price. Addition by subtraction means you gain just by losing a player. I doubt anyone would say that about Hall. As for Schultz, no one expected a big return for him, because - as Nyq...future said he was pretty much a bust at the time.

TSN's Off-Season Wing's Game Plan
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Keep Your Stick On the Ice's topic in General
I thought the same thing. Klein is still signed to NY, so it could be he's suggesting a trade for a guy we can flip at the deadline. He's missing Howard in his final lineup, so maybe it's some weird 3 way trade with Calgary-NY? Not enough explanation of the final lineup. Other problems with the article: - He misses some of added list from this past year: Mantha, AA, Sproul, Ott - Sproul's put on the bottom of the depth chart below Hicketts and Russo? -
Don't want him. He's not good at face offs.
-
This response pretty much confirms Holland's current 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' status.

http://www.ontheforecheck.com/2017/5/8/15584496/predators-sign-swedish-centers-petterssen-and-ejdsell Apparently they also signed Emil Petterson. Wonder if there's any relation to the Petterson in this draft. They already have more swidish players than us on their roster, so they're definitely out-swedeing us these days. There should be a Swedish mafia war. They'll go to the ikea mattresses.
