Nice play by Neilson! Completely negated that great opportunity for Vancouver. -
11/8 GDT - Red Wings 3, Philadelphia Flyers 2 (SO)

Just tuned in when OT started.Did Jimmy learn how handle shootouts?!! Nice to get a win! Some funny business by Nyquist and DK in OT, but didn't get burned. I think we had mostly youth out there for OT (except Z and Neilson played a bit) which was good to see. I only saw the little bit of Bertuzzi in OT (kind of bumbled the puck). That seems like a show of confidence. How did he look the rest of the game? -
Tyler Bertuzzi recalled... Vanek to LTIR

Bertuzzi may very well end up as a checker, but I don't know if that's certain. He didn't put up numbers in his first year in GR, but neither did Tatar, AA, Sheahan. All were 30-35 points in their first year. I'm just going to leave this here for consideration: Their Last year in CHL: Bert: 68gp 43g, 55a, 98pts AA: 66gp 49g, 46s, 95pts. -

Bertuzzi and Mantha were both drafted in 2013, but Bert's a year younger. Does that mean he has an extra year of waiver eligibility or does he have to be on the team next year as well? Regardless, Bertuzzi looks pretty sure to be a Wing one day and should get his cup of coffee, as babcock would say. I think next time Mantha gets called it should be for good and I still think for him to continue ripping the AHL would be great for him and building him confidence for when he comes up. -
There's many legitimate complaints when some prospects don't get a chance, but a large amount of prospects of any organization just don't turn out should be abandoned at certain points in the development process. Here's McKee's WMU stats: 13-14: 21 gp 1g 0a 1 pt. (+/- not listed) 14-15: 34gp 2g 1a 3pts -7 15-16: 25gp 1g 4a 5pts -7 Ouch, that's pretty horrible. 9 points in 3 years. Even if you're slated to be a 4th liner you have to put more than that together at the college level. Also, I think they play 35 games at that group so he must have been scratched a lot or had some running injury problems.

I like this. Bert was very impressive in the preseason with some great playmaking instincts. Good to see that Miller seems to the odd man out too. He played only 6 and a half minutes last games so Blash seems to be starting to get it. I know people want Mantha for goalscoring, but I think our biggest shortcoming recently is compete level and that's something Bert has brought every time I've seen him. -
I've been one that disagreed with Blash's usages, but tonight: - Glendening: 9:36, Ott: 9:28, Miller: 6:40 - And Z didn't lead the forwards in ice time. Nyquist did, with Larkin, Neilson also having more. - Also, Ericsson and Marchenko rightfully had the least time on D
-
nice stop Howard! Glendenings just on Neilson and Larken's line They've clearly assigned Helm to McDavid, but McDavid's doubleshifting so Glendening's on there to shadow him and take over for Helm.
-
Haven't watched McDavid yet so it'll be good to see him play. But as a wing fan, got to hope he doesn't live up to the rep tonight. Hopefully Tatar scores tonight. the report of his injury and his lackluster play so far scares me that we won't see the full potato all year.

11/4 GDT : Winnipeg Jets 5, at Red Wings 3

My theory is that none of our players want to be part of the Trouba trade so they all tried to look unimpressive to Jets management. -

Taking one comment and blowing it out of proportion. Blashill doesn't even dis AA in that comment, in my opinion. Here's other quotes from Blashill on AA: "Double A is a good player who’s growing. Double A will prove whether or not if he can an elite player, but when he left the American League he was not yet an elite player, so to think all of a sudden he’s going to come here and be an elite player I think is asking a lot of him. I have thought he’s shown flashes of elite and that’s why we’ve used him in the minutes that we’ve used him." http://windsorstar.com/sports/hockey/given-the-opportunity-athanasiou-delivers-for-wings The underlining assumption in these words are that Blashill thinks he can be elite so that's a good review. I think he should be played more, but I don't buy that there's a conflict at all. Many on here were sure that AA would be in the AHL and he's been playing on top lines so that should be taken into account when thinking of AA's usage - i.e. we should at least give them credit for that.

Martin Frk claimed off waivers by Red Wings
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to krsmith17's topic in General
Do explain. The only way I can see would be Waive XO or Sproul and send Kronwall to LTIR. That wouldn't even do what you say since that would just lose another prospect in the process. Edit: Ah, just remembered that AA is waiver exempt so maybe it would be possible for now (with Kronwall on LTIR), but with Jurco and Kronwall coming back sometime, I think there wouldn't be a way to keep these 2. -
TSN article calls the OMG line worst in the NHL.
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to TheXym's topic in General
Not that I like the line - would have preferred one of our young prospects over one or both of Miller and Ott and when Vanek's healthy Sheahan should replace one of them - but it doesn't seem to make sense if they're the worst line in the league that Glen is 3rd on the team with +3, Ott is +2 and Miller's even. These are our PKers and they get the hard Defensive assignments, yet they're still plus players despite not scoring much themselves. That tells me that being vastly outshot isn't translating to goals and they've been successful in defensive aspects. The article should have been titled "worst possession line" - Though it's obviously a useful stat, I think it's a bit of a jump to say corsi rating = a player's value. Corsi counts blocked shots which they have done well at and I think they've been pretty good at keeping teams the outside and limiting quality chances. P.S. Looked on on another site and our corsi teamwide is the worst in the league! Maybe our game plan is something akin to rope-a-dope, haha. -
I don't think anyone has said Mrazek isn't the #1. From what I can tell, this discussion was trigger by those that argued that Howard should barely ever play. Mrazek can still be an acknowledged #1 without playing 70+ games. And for your argument that Howard's games have been cherry-picked, I disagree. He played against NY and the Sharks - those are 2 of the best teams we've played, i think. Along with the blues, they're the only teams that we've played that are ahead in the standings (or tied if you discount games played). I'm not sure why anyone is arguing that either has played badly. I didn't see this last game were Mrazek was pulled, but I think they've both been great despite usually getting peppered as we often are greatly outshot. I think our goaltending duo is one of the greatest strengths of the team. We'll let Howard get a bunch of games and Mrazek won't be worn out for the playoffs (fingers crosses) and will be less likely to get injured.

10/30 GDT : Florida Panthers 5, at Red Wings 2
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in 2016-17
That's not the way I remember it at all. Halak played 35games 08-09, and 45 in 09-10 (more than half in his last year in MTL). Then in 10 Halak played through the playoffs though Price had played 3 full season in the league. They just played whoever was winning even though they knew the younger stud goalie would eventually take over. I think that's exactly what we should do. Mrazek will get his 60+ game seasons when he finds consistency, just like Price did. -

1 goal in 2 games is impressive. Why wear Mrazek down so early? Only Lundquist played back to back (and I think they lost one game). Pretty much every team plays the backup on one of the back to back games. We have 2 very good goalie, we should take advantage of that.
