That was a pretty good period. Looks like we're just missing that confidence behind the shots. I don't know what the trick is for Bishop or big goalies in general. Usually it's the large 5 hole, but we've tried that a number of times... -
What's not a valid argument? I wasn't arguing against Smith as a player, I like Smith for the most part and think he should have been in all series. But I was saying that, since he's still getting scratched this many years into his time with the Wings (he only played 63 games and I don't think he had injuries), I think it's probable that he's been in trade discussions. After all, to take on a defender we would have to let one go, E, K, Green have NTC or NMC, DK's not going, and the organization seems high on Marchenko and has talked for a long time about the importance of having Right handed guys. Quincey and Smith seem the most likely they would trade. I'm sure both have been pitched in offers - we've talked a lot about trying to upgrade
-
I know you really like Smith, but he's in his 5th year here (3rd full year) and still gets scratched when healthy. I think it's reasonable to think that the organization doesn't view him as a permanent part of the D corps in the future. I'm sure if we were to trade him it would be for a puck moving guy. P.S. I think Green is definitely a better puck mover.

We've been building from the draft. It takes patience. I do believe we've been replacing our best players. I think Mrazek, Larkin, and Dekeyser are "core" worthy players. Maybe Mantha, Sverchnikov or AA step up to that level. Tatar and Nyquist are on the edge of that as well. I know people are down because we slumped in the second half, but we made the playoffs and we are deep into the rebuild currently. I think things look great for the future. I mean who'll be left from the old guard? Z, Kronwall, and maybe Howard (though he's only 32) They'll be good for leadership even if they're not elite in the coming years (though, Howie could/should be traded). I don't understand why people want to tear it down completely. They moved Sharp because they were in a cap crunch not because he was declining. I'm sure they would have kept him if they could fit him in. And what's up with the false stats? Sharp had 20 goals and 55 pts with the Stars this year. That's UP from his 16 goals and 43 pts with the Hawks the year before. Did you lie just to force your argument? Also, in the 2014-15 season when his goals dipped to 16, he didn't play the full season as you say, and only played 68 due to injury. that's what abby said in the post game interview. plus you can see abby holding his hand with the glove hanging off and asking the ref if it's a misconduct. -

Smith should be in, but pairing him with Green seems like a bad idea to me. Those 2 are the ones that like to jump up in the play the most and I think it'd be better to stick them with Marchenko, DK or E. Q also deserves to be in too, though. I mean, he has been preparing his playoff beard for quite a while - we should let him show it off. Such a move suggests to me that he might be injured. If he's not, this pretty much confirms that we won't re-signing him after this year. I love me some Mrazek so it will be great to see how he does. Part of me wanted to keep Howard in because the loses haven't been his fault (and also to get his trade value up). Mr. Andersson, why do you persist? Go Wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Green was one of our best players in the first game. Q was better than E. I like Q however.... -
gdt ECQF Game 2 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 5, Red Wings 2

One thing I've noticed from the Lightning is a number of low blows. I haven't seen anyone mention it, but then again maybe I just didn't dig deep enough into this thread or the GDT. I think Sustr (sp?) did the blade in the groin to Richards and that's what set Richards off in the big brouhaha that lead to a bloody Blunden. Then there was a play with Ericsson where some defenceman got about 3 or 4 hacks in. (Aside: then the defenceman hooked E, let go of the stick and E throws it away and TB got a hooking charge - To which Pierre McGuire makes the commentary that the Wings really got away with one there???) -

"Johnson with a pair" haha (I know...I'm immature) -
That's the argument they were having - I was just fact checking.

gdt ECQF Game 1 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 3, Red Wings 2
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to vladdy16's topic in General
Very good 2nd period. If we had kept on like that in the 3rd then we would have won. I hope Larkin, Tatar, and Nyquist make their presence know more next game. We had a lot of the ingredients for success tonight, but our offensive guys have to finish/make gain ice in front of Bishop. Hope Jurco plays for Andersson and Tatar/Nyquist are split up -

Green! -
Richards scored 10. Helm's been in the top 6 for 2 and half years, but he often slides down to the 3rd and 4th lines. Doesn't really effect your argument - just keeping things honest.
-
I'm pretty sure Abby hasn't played very much with Datsyuk this year. Datsyuk's been with Helm and Richards or Mantha. So...yes
-
Yeah, I love Mantha, but I don't think he's grabbed a spot yet. 3 pts. in 10 games. -6. Looked fine, but still needs to round his game out. Let him go be a star in the AHL playoffs I think Jurco would be better suited to the 4th line spot that's likely open. Some are saying that Holland's stuck in the past, but: Lark, AA, Marchenko, then Tat, Ny Shea and maybe Jurco, Pulkinnen. It's already a pretty young roster. Hopefully Mantha will grab a spot for most of next year though. There will be opportunity with Pav gone.
-
Agreed on Datsyuk's line. I've never liked Tatar and Nyquist together. I'd put Tat-Dats-Helm back together that was good last year. and maybe Rich-AA-Nyquist for 3rd
-
We spread out the lines - Tatar and Nyquist are top 6 guys. Last year Johnson did the majority of damage on the 3rd line. Better to have 3 solid lines than be top heavy.
