Blashill said they have a long-term plan for Jurco. Part of me thinks that they realized they messed up Jurco's development and are working with him hard in practice. Maybe I'm just reading to much into the situation, though. I don't think it would be smart to give up on Jurco. Happy to see AA.

Did you hear that part by Ken who said our PK is 3rd at home? You know who's probably most responsible for that? Glendening, Howard, Mrazek, and... -
Definitely keep. He's good dependable secondary scoring and an energy guy that supplies some drive. I also think we're going to get a couple better statistical years from him in the next few years as he settles into these prime years. Next year, Richards, Andersson, and Miller gone upfront I think. I think they'll keep Ferraro because he's a RFA, though I wish they wouldn't. Franzen might stay on LTIR. There's enough room even Mantha or AA make it next year. Also, in about 3 years we could be without Franzen, Dats, Green maybe Kronwall - we'd be short on vets (Z, abby, E?, Howie?).
-
You really must just be trying to get a reaction. Q is not better than Kronwall or DK And, "Toss Up The Rest?" that means that you think that Brenden Smith or Kindl might be better than Green. Green was quite good before his injury.

Helm's totals are almost identical in years he hasn't played with Datsyuk as last year when he did.
-
I know man. I remember back when Helm had that youthful jump and now he's over-the-hill at....wait...28. Yeah, he's fine and he had that jump last year. He hasn't lost a step or whatever you're suggesting. He hasn't been so hot this year, but I think that's due to missing camp and preseason with the concussion/shoulder and rehabbing. I think he'll get it going soon. I know Helm's one of the player that you have a staunch dislike for, though, so I know I won't be able to convince you otherwise.

Well, Fedorov's season in Anaheim was the one that ended Babcock's coaching position there since they missed the playoffs. Babcock must have been soured on Feds from something during that year since he supposedly vetoed 91s return to the wings. I think somewhere in those set of events, there's the suggestion of dislike. Fedorov is my all-time favourite so I might have to jump on the Babcock hate side of things here, haha.

Pulkkinen may not be very rounded or tough on the puck or..., but he's tied for 3rd in points and 2nd in goals - I'd keep him in. We're offensively challenged currently. I'm not a Ferraro fan. give him the boot instead. Honestly, I'm not sure on defence. Apparently Kindl had a horrible game against the Leafs minus the goal (I only saw the first half of the 1st). He's been good in most of the other games (though he was responsible for the 2 late goals against Ottawa). I like Marchenko and feel that he plays a pretty solid game short on risks.

This guy's excited about the goal! -
I look forward to beating the Colorado Pacmen.

Nyquist signed his deal as an RFA. Those deals are on a different scale than UFA deals. You can't really compare in my opinion. Contracts will always go up, but revenue is going up as well so players salaries should go up or else the owners would be keeping a larger percent. We're also losing Richard's 4 million cap hit, Quincey's 4.25 caphit, and possibly Franzen's 3.955 caphit if he stays on LTIR and doesn't return. That, with the rising cap would surely make enough room for Mrazek, Abby and DK. I doubt Mrazek makes 4+, I'm guessing Helm at 2.75 and we're all fine. DK is still an RFA at the end of the year. He won't get his big 6+ payday until he's an UFA.
-
I think he stopped playing in 2012. Then he played a couple of games in the Spengler cup in 2013.
-
Jurco's only been in 4 games. I think he looked good in 2 games that I saw (minus a bad penalty) - I didn't watch the other 2. I still think he will be a solid player for this team. If we're not playing him now when we have these injuries, I don't see how he's getting in this year. Andersson has been pretty good the last few games. I'd actually take out Ferraro first from the lineup - guess I should have written replace Andersson with Jurco, slide Andy down to the 4th line.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/11/red_wings_mike_green_has_first.html Green might be back Friday. He was alternating with Marchenko which would make a Kindl-Green pairing, that doesn't sound very good to me. Forwards from practice: Justin Abdelkader-Henrik Zetterberg-Dylan Larkin Tomas Tatar-Riley Sheahan-Gustav Nyquist Joakim Andersson-Darren Helm-Teemu Pulkkinen Drew Miller-Luke Glendening-Landon Ferraro Glad to see Helm at center over Andy - much better on draws. Jurco was switching in with Helm's line - Replace Andersson with Jurco!

I was onboard when we were saying it's hard to judge and compare coaches since they're tied to the quality of the teams they coach. If you're trying to prove that Q's the best, I think it's a fool's errand because of those reasons. If you're looking at resumes, Babcock does have the best around. I'll turn to Wikipedia's intro paragraph for acheivements that Babs has that no other coach has: "As of November 2015, he is the only coach to gain entry to the Triple Gold Club, guiding his Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 2008, as well as leading Team Canada to gold at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in 2004, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Babcock is the only coach to win five distinct national or international titles, guiding Canada to gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 1997 and the University of Lethbridge to the CIS University Cup in 1994." You can't argue wins because Q has coached longer. You argued that they both had stacked teams and Babs only won once while Q won 3 cups. You seemed to allow that we where only stacked for 4 of Babcock's years here - well Q's been with hawks 7 years and they've all been stacked teams so they've were more likely to win more cups. I get that you're annoyed with the Babcock love, but he's a great coach. Q does get a lot of love too. He'll get a big raise as well soon. I don't think you can demonstrate that the difference between coaches of this caliber - there's no coaching stats (unlike your crosby/stamkos example) and it is so dependant on the level of teams, injuries in certain years, and so many other factors for how many times they've won. If you enjoy the debate, though, here's an article on Doug Armstrong's choice of Babcock over Quenneville for the World Cup: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=786516

Jack Black singing with the 'My Sharona' riff. -
I want to make it clear I'm not arguing for the "Babcock is the greatest" and is untouchable. But Quenville wasn't head coach of the Olymipic teams so saying he has as many gold medals as Babs seems dubious as well. I agree that cups are harder to win than the gold - except if you're the Latvian coach. Coach of Canada is the just don't f*** it up position. More of Bab's bonefides from wikipedia: Babcock is the only coach to win five distinct national or international titles, guiding Canada to gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 1997 and the University of Lethbridge to the CIS University Cup in 1994. He does a more diverse set of championships than Quenneville. Over course, Cups are the ultimate prize. I don't think you can just count cups, though, and say the guy with the most is the best.

Connor McDavid injured, out "long-term"
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
He got up right away and sat on the bench until the end of the period. That's pretty tough to me if it was a broken clavicle. I really wanted the Oilers to start turning things around and make the playoffs. They had been looking better even if a long shot for the playoffs. This will pretty much ensure they're in the bottom now - too bad. And yes Larkin could be Calder now. Has anyone watched Oscar LIndberg play? - he has pretty good numbers and I was wondering what the story is on him. -
To keep everything completely honest, he is the only triple gold coach. He's also the only one to win back-to back golds as head coach (maybe in history - somebody might know better than I). But I know the arguments against that - that few get the chance to be national coaches and that Canada's team was stacked. Most of Hockey's big pundits are Canadian so that plays a factor with the plies of love he gets since he has the national attatchment that olympic winners get. Quenville should get more love.

Luke Glendening: Shutdown Extraordinaire.
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to kipwinger's topic in General
Glendening also has 54.5 % for faceoffs http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings-team-stats?season=2015&seasonType=1&category=FACEOFFS&type=1&position=0 None of Larkin, Z, Sheahan, Andersson are above 50%. Andersson is the next closest at 48.6. This contributes to Glendening's usage. We put him in for defensive zone faceoffs because he's our best chance at winning the faceoff. But that also means he's in when they have their best chances. We could use Helm for these situations (he's at 52.6 with only 19 fo taken) and that could help. I'd like him at 3C over Andersson. Richards was doing pretty well (52.7) at faceoffs so he could be used there when he's healthy. -
Luke Glendening: Shutdown Extraordinaire.
PavelValerievichDatsyuk replied to kipwinger's topic in General
Well, if Glendening is against the Turris line, I would expect them to have possession more and take more shots. What's the alternatives? I don't want Z or the 2nd line playing a defensive role in these games - we're having enough trouble getting shots and chances as is. I'm fine with spreading out Glen's minutes with the 3rd line, except that it's Andersson right now and I don't think that guy's skating is good enough to go against the top centers. When Datsyuk's back, Sheahan will be back on the 3rd line and he can take some of those assignments.
