That said, he has done pretty well offensively - in my opinion - especially when we most needed it right after the deadline. Coming in to a brand new organization in the middle of a playoff hunt helped keep us afloat and now guys have started to come back

That's just your opinion. I think he was brought in for his complete 3 zone game, veteran stability and experience - points aren't everything. Maybe I shouldn't have responded. I always feel the need to, but then I'm just contributing to the flogging of this dead horse...

I'm the one who brought up Matthias and you seem to have missed my point. I was not claiming he was a top pick. I said that the wings have kept their prospects and don't need to be taught to think twice about giving up a top prospect (as you have said). They have been quite stingy in giving up youth for quite some time. I used Matthias as an example for how long it's been since the wings have given up a prospect. The fact that Matthias was not a top 3 prospect just further shows that the Legwand trade was special circumstance. Management didn't just randomly make the trade. They know better than us how good Jarnkrok might be and felt the sacrifice was justified.

I'd imagine lines 2 and 3 are are more 2 and 2a and they could be flipped for those concerned about the money hierarchy. The only problem is that I think Helm is too good for a fourth line role (if he gets back his game completely - and he seems to be recently). Maybe he flips with Sheahan, but that breaks up the kids (then again you do have Alfie there) - Oh well, next year, if healthy, is going to be a fun year.

Tatar gets more than 1 year, Sheahan too. Sheahan's definitely on the roster opening night. I think Glendening goes down as soon as Datsyuk is healthy and, therefore, next year he'll still be waiver exempt. Only UFA needed are D. I think that's too much for Boyle.

You keep saying this, but when was the last time the wings gave up a top prospect? Shawn Mattias for Bertuzzi? That was 7 years ago and the wings now keep picks and prospects. I honestly don't know how I feel about the trade - possible present gain for possible future sacrifice. But to claim that the Wings need to be taught a lesson about giving up prospects seems incongruous with management's recent history.

We don't need big changes. We need let our youth come up, shed some bad contracts and add to the D. Every time we lose, people on this site want a revolution.

Maybe he has a point, but to me it sounds too much like "this is the etiquette of a hockey game" like they're at the opera. to me relax let people get in to the game. Nobody knows what happened with the logistics of the deal except Holland, Poile, and maybe the NSA. Any guesses as to progression of negotiations are just conjecture and I don't believe they add much weight to any argument.
