You say that Holland "buried our 3rd-most talented skater in the minors", which he may look like now, but he certainly wasn't established as such when he was sent down. To remind people of his NHL stats in the past 2 years: 11-12: 18GP: 1G, 6A = 7pts 12-13: 22GP: 3G, 3A = 6pts No GM would see those numbers and conclude "we don't need to sign any UFAs - lets just let our young star shine." I'm not defending signing Sammy or Cleary, but we needed other help. There was certainly no guarantee that Gus would be as good as he's been this year.

If it's really not something special, how come other teams aren't close to our streak. If you don't want to compare the streak to other sports - It's the 5th longest streak in NHL history, but all the longer streaks were started in 60s or 70s - long before the 92 expansion. If you miss the significance of being able keeping a competitive hockey team for that length of time in the modern NHL, you are missing a large part of what has made the Red Wing under Illitch a very unique organization.

I think most people would think it is common sense that a punch to the head is a head shot. This is a league where minor contact to the head in a hit is punished with supplemental discipline. I don't believe it is embarrassing to ask why there is not a league response merely because it was a punch rather than a body check. Neil ripped off the helmet and sucker punched an unwilling fighter. One that has just missed significant time due to a concussion. I think it's a situation that speaks to the precarious position the league is in with Head hits vs. Fighting, but I believe the line should be when two players are willing fighters.

I don't know why he got the penalty, but I was watching a video of the incident and there's a really funny exchange between Franzen and the Ref. You can see Franzen get really annoyed at :50. Maybe he just didn't like being led off, but it looks to me like he just doesn't like butt pats as much as BottleofSmoke.
