After the trade deadline the 23 man roster limit gets removed. There fore, technically, you can have unlimited black aces. Holland usually brings 5+ black aces come playoff time and once April 3rd hits the 23 man roster limit goes away.

We don't have the ties to Sustr like we do DeKeyser. Sustr has attended the NYR camp 3 years ago (IIRC) and for the past 2 he's attended PITTS and TB's camps. Josh Archibald has connections with Andrej Sustr, which is one of Pittsburghs prospects. So I could easily see TB or Pittsburgh getting Sustr with little to no problem. Every team has most likely been calling Sustr since he announced he was starting to take NHL offers and not do his senior year. Danny DeKeyser we have connections to. He's been at the camps the past 2-3(i'm almost positive it has been 3) seasons and Jim Nill's family is close with DeKeyser's. I would say we are in the front runner group for DeKeyser, if not THE front runner, but when it comes to Sustr... it's a pipe dream. I just hope we get ONE of them, please EDIT: Also, I would like DeKeyser more than Sustr right now. Obviously, both would be outstanding but DeKeyser is more NHL ready than Sustr. Sustr is an absolute beast at 6'8 230, and has the higher ceiling, but development wise, he's behind DeKeyser. Although, many say that Sustr has the potential to be the next Chara. Right now, we would be more prone to needing someone that would fit within the system now, not within 1-2+ years. We have enough defensemen within the system that I think our d core will be looking good in those upcoming years.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if a player is bought out, don't they hit waivers? I just can't see Chicago ever letting go of Hossa, and I don't see Hossa leaving Chicago. It seems like he loves the players he's surrounded around, hes a fan favorite, and he's apart of their core. Would he come to Detroit? Highly unlikely. He was trying to stay in Detroit when it came down between him and Franzen. He was taking a discount to stay here, but it wasn't good enough. Kenny went with the man that gave him the better contract, and who he thought was going to be the better player. You can't say you thought Franzen would turn into the lazy machine he is today, it just couldn't be predicted. Looking in hindsight, yes, we all cringe watching Hossa play compared to Franzen, but we can't change the past.

This is a rough situation. Do we give up prospects/roster players and possible picks for a 1-year rental? We have no idea if he would extend with us, but if we really are on his 3-team short list, I also couldn't see that being a problem. He would bring leadership within the locker room, grit within the top 6, the drive, heart and passion to win a stanley cup, and scoring touch. We would finally have a bigger body with Pasha that can continuously pot them. That would allow for another speedy winger on the other side of Pasha, or atleast a smaller bodied playmaker. Really rough situation, but if he wants to come to Detroit, he wouldn't just be coming for this season. I could see Pittsburgh getting him though; they desperately need a scoring winger and he would fit the bill. They have numerous defensive prospects that they could throw Calgary's way, BUT they aren't in the best shape cap space wise. They gotta re-sign Malkin and Letang which both are going to be asking for the cash flow. I don't see Vancouver getting him at all. They don't have the pieces to offer, and Calgary can't be giving away their captain to a team they will be playing so much. LAK doesn't really need him at this point, so I can't see them going nose forward with this. Boston would be the other one competing with Detroit and Pittsburgh. In reality, a lot of you probably will say it's not worth to pursue him but i'm going to say go for it. We need to get a trade done anyways soon, and we need to get rid of some people. I'm not even sure where we're standing right now at the 50-contract limit. I say we pursue him. If he wants to sign with Detroit right now, I couldn't see any problems signing an extension. He brings in veteran appeal (Holland loves that), heart, passion, drive, scoring touch, size, and relentless effort.... I mean I just don't see any problems here.

I doubt there is going to be any more movement just because of a GM meeting. They can talk on the phone all day long, just because they're face to face it doesn't mean they're magically going to start talking trades now. This meeting will most likely be about officiating and the consistency of it. Numerous games have had outcomes change because of blown calls, missed calls, or some other bs.

He has this season and next season, then he goes FA. Both seasons at 7.5m/mil season caphit. Rumors are that Vancouver has been going hard after him, but it will be hard for them to make space for his 7.5m/mil hit. They would need to do a 3-way trade involving another team to drop Luongo's contract off. Seeing how they've dealt with that situation, I don't see them being able to deal Luongo. They need to realize that teams know their situation and know they HAVE to deal him. They aren't going to over-pay for that horrible contract, especially when they know Vancouver HAS to unload it.

Maybe he's like Matt Stafford and you can only call him "Matthew" via commentary!

I think it spells Torts is done if they don't make ANY noise this season. Decent playoff team that has been looked to be one of the contenders for alittle bit now. With the addition of Nash, they were the #1 pick to win it. They don't secure something this season... and I feel like it reflects greatly upon Torts and he's gone. Just too much firepower to work with and not get the results you wanted. They're looking to dish Gaborik away before the trade deadline, which will be interesting if they actually can get rid of his 7.5m/yr cap hit. And especially interesting to see what they can get in return for him.

Yes, he is. We were more wondering if you can bury them in LTIR, and get cap relief. Due to 35+ contracts always getting the cap hit, yes, we still would have his cap hit next year. I think what more or less people were wondering, and myself, was with a 35+ contract on LTIR, can you still exceed the cap by that players cap hit? or no? If we buried him on LTIR, it would be useless if we can't use his cap space still. Might as well use a buy-out then.

I'm not sure if we could bury him on LTIR until his contract expires since he's on a 35+ contract. It came up in the Bert thread and i'm not sure anyone found out what happened in those cases.

I saw the interview and mentioned in during the GDT when it had happened. I think he brought up his normal, what's he's been discussing recently, stuff up and elaborated alittle. I said this in the GDT also, and someone made reference of it, but I don't think it got enough attention. Abby is playing the role Bert has for Pasha, that's why Pasha loves it. I really think Pavel is missing Bert because he does what Abby does, and produces it while doing so. I can see Bert and Pavel having that weird connection witin the locker room and having that friendship bond. Bert is stern, to himself, and has his joking side. Pavel is quiet, to himself, and has his joking side. They love shootouts, mimic each others moves, and try to one up each other. They've had numerous celebration hugs together and generally look to be a little man couple. Bert produces with Pavel, and does a good job while doing it. That's why Pavel likes Abby, at least in my opinion. Holland is completely right about everything he's said this season. Separation in the standings is what is going to cause trade deadline activity, unfortunately there isn't much because there isn't separation within the standings. He wants to be a buyer, not a seller come deadline time. Acquiring Helmer before the deadline is the best move they can logically make right now, and that's the truth. There is 0 moves out there, or better moves, like getting Helmer back. I agree with Babcock when he labels Helmer has the best 3rd line center in this league, or atleast in my opinion top 3. There ISN'T a move better than acquiring one of the best 3rd line centers in this league, with nothing coming out of it within your end. We acquire an outstanding bottom 6 center, while doing nothing to our pipeline. You can't beat that. For all the Sammy hate, I still don't understand it. He's played in all of 3 games this season. The first 2 games of the season, which everyone and their mother was horrible in and then when he returned from his injury. I still don't know a player who could possibly come into a season, play in mid-season form, get injured and and then magically come into the season "mid-season" form. The guy hasn't even STARTED his season yet. He hasn't gotten his legs under neath him. I don't care who you are, you sure aren't going to play mid-season form within the first 2 games. Then you get injured, and come back (people magically think he's going to be mid-season form from that injury) play a single game and get injured again. We can't even evaluate how he's going to be within this system.

I get all giggly thinking about seeing 43 back on the ice again. Sadly, i'll have to keep it in mind that he'll probably look horrible the first few games considering he basically hasn't played hockey in a year....BUT HES BACK AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS.

Outstanding win boys, this should swing some confidence and hopefully momentum. Helmer is due back next week for the Minnesota game, possibly but hopefully! I'm just in awe that some wanted to call Howard average earlier this season... my GOD he has been sharp lately.
